DO NOT GO HERE if you're a grammar fiend like I am. You will be haunted by their "Fish Fry's" and "wing's". However... their hilarious grammar caught my attention, and when on the lookout for a quick lunch spot, they popped into my mind's. We head over around noon and seriously no one was there! They have a little lot behind the bar that is nice, however this is plenty of street parking around the bar. The bartender was super friendly when we walked in and told us we could absolutely enjoy lunch on their nice patio. We headed out and both ordered a couple drinks - it was even the special on monday that it was buck off drinks :) The inside was decked out with tons of tables and lots of machines to play on - plus there were tons of tvs, good place to catch a game perhaps... especially with that Brewer's shuttle that they have! Their menu actually had some pretty impressive options, but we wanted wings! Their wings were cheap at 12 for $10, but we both opted for the "meal", which included 6 (or 12) wings and a side. The sides were fries, tots, wedges, o-rings etc... with curds and the like being offered for slight up-charges. The wings were really good, and they have tons of sauces to choose from. They take about 15 minutes as they fry them, then sauce them, then grill them. This really soaked in a ton of the sauce flavor, but after grilling they came out pretty dry sauce wise. The spicy garlic packed tons of flavor into Jeremy's, but my Blue Buffalo unfortunately left a lot of flavor left to be desired. I spose it's also that I prefer a little bit of a saucier wing. The bone bucket, extra naps and wet wipes were an appreciated effort. All in all, for two drinks, a wing meal and a tip I walked out paying about $16! Great deal and awesome service... This is the second time I've walked in there sat down and then had zero service no one came to my table no one took my drink order no one took my food order we were completely ignored. Great wings and fríes!! Have been a customer for about 5 years now and have been there to have dinner twice. I love their wings! They're seasoned well and are fairly priced. The staff for the most part is very friendly and quick to serve you. A visit a month ago has me a little reluctant to return though. The bartender was supposed to be tending to the few tables by the bar. She visited our table 3 times in the hour and a half we were there. She was too busy flirting and taking shots with the people at the bar. She asked to refill our drinks once and disappeared to take more shots for 20 minutes. Thankfully one of the servers for the bottom half of the bar noticed my boyfriend and myself. I wish I had gotten her name so I could rave about her. She was the sweetest thing and made sure to make up for our lack of service prior. read more

Last Sunday during the Packer game I went in to meet my son. I waited about 25 minutes for the waitress to come and get my drink order. She brought the worst bloody Mary with a string cheese and a sausage stick. She apologized for not having fixings. Whatever. If you are planning on taking the Miller brewery tour in Milwaukee , this place is just down the street - though you should drive there after you buy your tour tickets. Too far to walk. Milwaukee is famous for its local bar/restaurant "joints" , and this was picture book perfect. . We had an hour to kill before our Miller tour and, when asked, the ticket agent told us about this place. This is one of those small places where locals gather and everybody knows your name. We ordered beers , all varieties from Miller of course, 2 Wisconsin cheese curd appetizers, and one pretzel bites appetizers with cheese dipping sauce. YUM. We decided to give this a try as we heard the fish fry was good, also intriguing that it as a bit off the beaten path. Well, we got there to find a sign that read "no fish fry", what are the odds of that? We were hungry and stayed anyway. Not busy ( probably because of no fish fry), but a nice welcome from the bartender. He explained that the main cook was on vacation and the back up was sick, so they did not think they could deliver the quality without those two, actually a respectable explanation. The vibe was casual and friendly, beers were cold and order taken promptly. My husband loved his sandwich, turkey, bacon, cheese, perfectly grilled, hot crispy tater tots. I opted for a burger, good, but past the temp I requested and bacon a bit undercooked. Still we will come back at some point to try that fish fry. read more

The previous bar in this building was scummy which made me hesitant to even go in. But my wife has been on a wing kick and when that happens...I wanna keep that going for as long as possible. Much different atmosphere and ambiance then the scummy pre- Spitfire days. Cool diverse crowd, clean, tastefully decorated, friendly waitress. This place, while not a full-fledged dive, definitely has a few dive bar qualifications. 1) It's got an Internet jukebox where the most played artist is Nickelback. (I know. Can you believe it?!) 2) You're apt to see more folks standing outside smoking a cigarette than at the bar. 3) If there's 12 stools at the bar and six male patrons, you'll neatly see a one-stool space between each guy. And each guy will likely be staring forlornly in his glass or at one of the TVs showing sports, 24-7. Spitfire's resides at the confluence of numerous Milwaukee neighborhoods. To the east, urban Milwaukee and Miller Brewery; north, the Milwaukee bedroom community of Washington Heights; south, industrial and the Miller Park valley; and finally, west, the middle-class neighborhood of Wauwatosa. What this means to you, dear review reader, is that you're likely to see just about any type of person at Spitfire's. It's a true Milwaukee melting pot pub. I have visited the place twice and both times I've had a nice experience. The service was good and the draught beers fresh (they've got a few domestics and local crafts on tap). Last night was my first try at their Friday night fish fry. I came away wholly satisfied. For a town so well known for its fish fries, I still find it difficult to find a good one. And I'll admit, the definition of a "good fish fry" is highly subjective, but growing up in northern Wisconsin, I found a good fish fry to include a couple of slices of marble rye, potato pancakes (applesauce, NOT ketchup!), cold, crispy and creamy coleslaw, and lastly, cod, beer-battered to have a golden outside and white, moist opaque fish inside. Spitfire's has this. The taste of my "up-nort" youth. I love it. It was also only $9.95 - another thing to love. I'm looking forward to returning soon to give their burgers a try. Also, while I'm there, I'll drop a fiver and Bogart the juke for a half an hour or so. Sorry for not listening to recent reviews my fellow Yelpers. When will I ever learn?! I need to start listening so I can bypass the worst Milwaukee has to offer. Things started off just fine but went downhill quickly. I think the issue was that there was only one server and it got really busy due to softball teams showing up. I noticed that the bartender was also helping with the tables. I guess that's why we thought she could help us find our server to ask for our order to go since it had been so long. My friend asked the bartender for her assistance with our server and was told that it wasn't her problem and to look for her "over there". The food was just ok and the service was terrible. I hate to write a bad review on this place because the food is actually really great! But I need to call attention to a certain waitress I've had both times I've been to Spitfires for food. She is short and blonde and actually was very nice and accommodating. The only thing is that SHE JACKS UP THE PRICES ON YOUR FINAL BILL. The first time it happened I thought it was a mistake, because it was on a Saturday in the afternoon on a really nice day and if I were working I would have had a few drinks. But then I went for wings again last night and it happened AGAIN!! Our bill was raised a whole $12 from what it should have been. We were going to go to the bar because she wasn't around when she ran out of the back seeming kind of panicked about it saying that she would take care of it for us. When we called out that our bill was way too much she again tried to act innocent saying "I'm not trying to rip you off" which we never said so that made me pretty suspicious. Then she added up our meals in her head to split CORRECTLY on the bill. Hmmm... Pretty sure she can do math well. Clearly she gets away with this all the time so I want to warn people that go and hopefully call attention to this to the management there. I will now be returning to TomKens when I want wings where the waitresses would never do that!! I am usually a great tipper and would have tipped 30% or more anyways. read more

I really hate to give Spitfires such a poor review but I really can't help it. As one other review mentioned, I had a Bar Rescue though while I was there. I arrived at about 6:40, and did have pretty quick service. I ordered a grilled cheese with fries. Added bacon. This was $8.75! So please do something well. The bread options were white, wheat or rye. Wheat. Cheese? Pepper jack. Result? Sandwich that appeared the bread was simply toasted. Bacon probably pre-cooked as it was good and crispy but there was something odd about it. The cheese, warned but not melted. Fries, fresh, hot, but out of a freezer bag, not homemade. Served 30 minutes later. They were busy though. Though more than one waitress for the whole bar may have been helpful. After the rest of my group arrives, one orders a mini-pitcher. What is about 15 minutes later, waitress walks by and I ask about that pitcher, and order myself one as well. Another ten minutes later we get our mini-pitchers. I ask for a couple cups of ice. Another of our friends order wings. Another 15 minutes and no ice. I go up to ask the bartender. She says sure. Finishes up the drink she was making. Puts a dice cup back. Another customer reaches into her and gives her his glass, she gives him ice. She pours two more shots. Then comes right back to me and starts washing glasses, right in front of me. I walk off. Five minutes later, see the waitress, and ask her again and tell her the dilemma. She brings us now four glasses of ice. Ummmmmm, ok. Remember the friend who ordered wings? Yeah apparently they didn't either. Oh, but when they finally came, I was bewildered because I know she couldn't have ordered those. I mean that was like 40 mins ago. The wings had no sauce on them. No flavor. And good wings, you can smell the sauce. She mentions this to the waitress who walks off without taking the wings with her. About ten mins later returns and says the cook said he put sauce on the wings. He fries them, dips them, then grills them. If they were grilled, I'm wondering on what. The resolution, they gave her a cup of sauce. The bathroom is very tight. And one stall, the toilet didn't flush. I went to tell the bartender who only had two patrons at the bar, at this time they were not busy. She told me she would be right with me. And again, forgot me. I ran into the waitress and told her. I genuinely give this one star because the waitress was pleasant. Unknown if she was just overly busy, which appeared to be the case, or possibly overwhelmed and a little lost. Either case, it's unfortunate that an establishment would make a waitress feel that way. Oh, and she was the only one to clear tables so yeah tables sat dirty for quite a while. The last two times I was here, everything was great and I had hoped to order pick up for lunch. Sadly, I can't give this place a second chance. It was just that bad. I heard there were new owners... I suspect there will be again soon if things don't change. I'll come back then. read more

My boy's and I have ventured the MKE area near and far... Spittes by far has the best wings in the Metro Milwaukee Area. I cannot speak to the woman's review below. All that I know is that Master Chief Andy has been working his magic behind the grill and impressing me well before they moved to the new location. I'll take her review as a fluke occurrence. If you don't believe me... give it a shot. Order the Medium Wings (or hot if you dare) and Spicy Garlic with a double order of Ranch. Would not recommend this place if you are not a regular. We walked in the door (not a busy night as there were probably 3-5 regulars guys sitting at the bar) and no one spoke to us for 6 1/2 minutes. Not the bartender or any other employee. The regulars at the bar were typical regulars. We left. We are a biracial couple and wondered if it was a race thing? We don't know but that's what it felt like. We really thought we were going to give it (a second) but it was definitely a NO GO!! In fact I have left a previous review about a mistake on a previous order. All I have received are negative and very unprofessional comments about my review. Wings are good. Nice size, cooked well. Moist in the middle, crispy on the outside. Service is awful. Good luck sitting outside on the patio and getting a waitress that even looks in your general direction. 15 or so different sauces for wings. We came in the other night to grab some food and a drink and when we walked in we were not even noticed in the slightest. It wasn't too busy and there were really no tables taken and just some people at the bar. Ended up going and sitting down at a table and after waiting a bit decided to go up to the bar to see if we had to order there or if there was a server. Anyways the bartender said there is a server and she should be there soon. Waited a little longer and she finally comes out and had a bit of an attitude as if we were a bother to her. Still optimistic we ordered an appetizer and food/drinks. The drinks came out and a bit later the mozzarella sticks came out-- super light, and clearly under-cooked to the point that the cheese wasn't melted inside and was more of still just a string cheese in an under-cooked wonton wrap. We were hungry an the server didn't come to check to see how they were so we sucked it up and ate it hoping that the rest of the food would be better. Fast forward to the food coming out. The chips weren't crispy and the burgers were cooked somewhat to order-- a little underdone but that seems to be the theme tonight.. And here is where the bacon comes in.... Bacon should not be put on a burger or really consumed at all when it is this under-cooked. We waited a bit to see if the server would come out to check on us but again she didn't, at this point just annoyed and unsatisfied the bacon was picked off and a prayer was said that the burger wouldn't be too bad due to the nearly raw pork that was just on it. After giving up and just deciding to give the food a shot, the server finally comes out closer to the end and asks us if we want out bill. That's when I mentioned the issues we had and she grabbed baskets and walked away with more attitude. She dropped the bill off where she quietly stated that she gave us 15% off. Note Ive worked in the service industry for over 13 years and don't like to complain because I try to factor in everything when dining out. This just seemed like a lazy effort from both the front and back of house. I've been here a few times to eat. the chicken wings are awesome! The garlic Parmesan is great as is the blueberry BBQ sauce. For you who want real hot this is a good place to go as they do some very hot stuff. all sauces are made in house from my understanding. the French fries are good. the mozzarella sticks are also good. only issue is service can be slow but I've been told there is 1 cook and it's very small. read more

I always find myself wondering why im in this part of town when im on state street. I mean it looks dead and quiet, a memento of the factory laden past of Milwaukee. And then you have places like Spitfires and Saz's that just pop out of nowhere and you realize why you came to state street. It is a nice bar, mid-sized with outdoor seating if i can recollect. Pretty quick service, we got seated immediately during a cubs game. Now onto the wings, the reason why we came. My buddy assured me these were the best wings in milwaukee and while they were pretty good, I have to disagree that they are Milwaukee's best. Thats a tough title for anyone to live by. I had the asian sensation and honey bbq and my friend had tropical heat and some other hot flavor. The irony was the asian sensation was spicier than the wings he ordered! I guess thats the way to do it haha. I think the wings were pretty good, a little too gummy for my taste but if you're into that i hold no judgment. There are a good variety of flavors and the price for the wings is pretty fair compared to many other places. $12 for 12 wings and a side is a pretty good deal to me. The Caribbean jerk wings are delicious. Major issue I have is, I live on 50th. Literally 2 houses from spitefires, I am African American and obviously my family is as well. My mom raves about this place all the time to us but she never goes inside. She orders and has one of us pick up by car (she sometimes wants it on the go). Today was the day I ordered and went inside and boy did I NOT feel welcomed. It was just an instant uncomfortable feeling walking in. No greeting from the bartender and I went to the bar to pick up the food I ordered over the phone (which by the way, whomever the guy is that answers, needs some phone etiquette) come to think about it.. this might be the same person at the bar who serves. As I walk up, he instantly walks back with his hand over his mask. I speak saying I'm here for a pick up and he quickly grabs the clipboard for me to sign. But I didn't get it gently or nicely, it was a quick slide to me. Then grabbed it back, I wondered if I should even tip but I did anyway.. after getting the clipboard back, he quickly hands me my food almost tossing it at me and I left. The issue is, I thought maybe I was just feeling something that wasn't there but my boyfriend was with me and he also felt like we didn't belong and the guy was kind of "off" which is why he didn't even want to order a beer. Needless to say, we won't be back. We like friendly environments, we like meeting new people. How do you have a sign that says "a place where randoms become regulars" but don't make "randoms" of different colors feel welcome? I wouldn't recommend sending any of my friends or family and that's too bad because I mean... the food was good. I also ordered extra fries and from being so rushed over the phone to order, THE PERSON MISSED MY EXTRA ORDER OF FRIES. But yeah... hard pass due to the non welcoming atmosphere. Awesome wings, burgers and apps. The area they are lacking in is service and service coordination. We had seperate checks, and one persons food came out, and we had to wait 20 minutes for our food to arrive. Then the burger was wrong (they forgot the bbq sauce, even though it is a standard component of the burger ordered). We had 2 different waitresses, I guess our waitress left halfway through our meal. Plus on dart league night, there are only 2 tables that AREN'T reserved for players, making it hard to find a place to sit and eat. All that aside, I keep going back for the food. It's fatty, cheesy, fried and naughty but oh so good. Everything is fresh and flavorful with a unique little twist. read more

This place is all about the wings. Ginger sesame for the win. Overall, I'm very happy with Spitfires -- it's a sports bar with sports bar food that is consistently good if a bit slowly delivered. On crowded nights, be prepared for a significant wait. Servers are attentive and friendly, and while waiting for food I've never had a glass of beer go dry for longer than a minute or so. The burgers are quite good, the chicken club is very good, and the wings are outstanding. I'd recommend this place for a low key outing with some low key food. read more

Hey! This place is pretty neat. We came here on wing night and the food was really great. Lots of wing flavors to choose from. I also tried the Spit Fire chicken sandwich was was really good. They have $1 off happy hour drinks which was great and the wing deal is 20 wings and a pitcher for $20. Not too shabby. The place is pretty casual and you can tell there's alot of regulars. I would throw this into the dive bar section. Only complaint is that there were ALOT of young children there (5 and under) and we were there after 8:30pm on a weeknight...kind of strange and does not seem like an appropriate place to let kids run around. Staff is super friendly and helpful! Great local bar with a homelike feel to it. Wings are amazing! We had the Buffalo Blue, Honey BBQ and the Teriyaki. Friday night fish fry was amazing! We opted for "baked" and got a large piece of fish which was seasoned perfectly with lemon pepper and butter. The tater tots were super yummy - and the fried mozzarella sticks (wrapped in wontons) were so good they just about melted in our mouths! The bartender is great!! We ordered food and it took a little while to get to us. When we got our food, my burger was cooked wrong (ordered it medium rare, got it well done). My husband ordered boneless wings and they came with bone in. We sent both items back and the bartender was very happy to fix the problem. The cook brought out our food about 15 minutes later and my burger was missing the side. I told him I had onion rings with my burger and he walked away angrily. Another 10 minutes went by and he brought my onion rings. I said thank you and he walked away and didn't even acknowledge me. Michelle, the bartender is great. She offered us a free round and that is greatly appreciated. Too bad the cook is such a dick and can't accept the fact that he messed up. I might not be back just because the cook is an asshole.
