Had a very disappointing experience with their office in Derry. I had a skin tag close to my eye removed by Dr. Slentz that my dermatologist wouldn't touch, which wasn't covered by insurance, so I paid a significant amount to them out of pocket for the procedure, which was fine. The doctor asked me to come in for a follow up appointment a few weeks later just to make sure everything had healed. When I arrived for the follow up though, I was told that there were submitting the follow up visit through insurance even though I had paid out of pocket for the procedure. They wanted to collect a co-pay from me, plus the amount of the visit that insurance that insurance wouldn't charge. I said pass, and suggested they be more clear with patients in the future that follow up visits are not included in the price they quote for a procedure. read more

My husband got his glasses there after I raved how great this place was. The lenses do not fit the frame and we did not find out until we went another vision place, and they showed us the problem. There are little holes on each side of the frames (where the lense should fit frame tight) and the lenses clearly do not fit the frame correctly. My husband went there several times and you just pushed lenses into frames that don't fit and sent him on his way, he suffers from headaches, vision problems, and falling out lenses all the time. After more that 10-15 times of being there you did not fix the problem and you clearly were not going to fix it. You just shoved lenses back into a frame that did not fit and send him on his way, unkind, unbelievable, and only out for profit. They should have offered him a new pair of lenses and glasses. We paid alot of money and only have this plan every 2 years. Yesterday he was at grocery store and the Lense popped out and a carriage almost ran it over. I would never go back here ever again and I want to make sure that people know that when something is wrong, you will not fix it at your expense, instead you will have the customer pay for it in vision loss. I do not recommend anyone go here. I have had this company for several years and its now all about making money, not doing the right thing. read more

Spindel Eye Associates June 4, 2024 Approximately 10 years ago, I had Lasik Surgery through Spindel Eye Associates, and I will never forget the incredible support and comfort I received with their entire staff, from the receptionist to the technicians to the surgical staff. Dr Spindel, in my opinion, is the absolute best when it comes to building a relationship between patient and doctor. He was easy to talk to, informational, and was extremely open to everything you had to say from your questions to your concerns. I have now gone through cataract surgery and I have complete trust and faith in using Spindel Eye Associates once again. At the onset, I had requested Dr Spindel himself, but was unavailable. I was slightly disappointed, until I learned of Dr Mina Farahani. I am so grateful for having her as my doctor. She has many of the attributes that I have seen with Dr Spindel. She is very welcoming, easy to talk to and to share your thoughts and concerns with, she listens to what you have to say, and above all - very friendly and approachable. Dr Farahani spent a great deal of time making sure I understood my options and the differences between each. She is a step above. I have decided to go with Light Adjustable Lens and not the traditional lens. I have read a great deal about LAL's and this option will give me the best shot at achieving my goal which is to not wear glasses for either near or distant viewing. Dr Farahani has extreme in-depth knowledge of the LAL product and the process you will go through. During this entire process from surgical preparation to post surgery, Dr Farahani took the time to make sure I was comfortable, and that all my questions were answered. I had many. She continued to reassure me, even as the procedure was starting, that if there was anything I needed, just let her know. Her words: "Rich, at any time you need me during the surgery, just ask me. You will hear me and I will hear you". If that is not comforting, I don't know what is. Always reassuring.! In the end, Dr Farahani and I had achieved our goals. I can read very close up and I can see a very good distance without glasses. I am free from the demands that glasses require whether it be reading, computer, TV or long distance. The key critical element here is to make sure you and your doctor set the proper expectations. Everyone is different. In my instance, I received a bonus. I think what makes a doctor stand out from many others is the phone call you get post op. She personally makes those calls herself to you and not a staff member. Very gratifying to know that she cares about your wellbeing through the entire process - from the first handshake to the last. Dr Farahani always wants to know that you are ok. I would be remiss if I did not say a few words about the staff. Spindel Eye Associates staff are always kind and friendly. From the receptionist to the technicians to the medical assistants - they always made you feel like you are special. All of them were very thorough in their own areas. From the pre-screening to the pre-surgical tests, always explaining the preparation work, the steps to be followed, and setting the proper expectations. It made a big difference. That team always made sure I was in the best possible position to make this surgery the most successful. I had lasik eye surgery in 2013 with Dr. Vazan. At the time I was 23 years old. During the initial consultation I asked Dr. Vazan if I should wait to have the procedure until I was older because I had read that eyes change more rapidly when you're younger and I didn't want the procedure to be ineffective. He said I may see minor regression in my distance vision when I was older but nothing that would need to be corrected and the only thing I needed to be aware of was that it was likely that I would still need reading glasses when I aged. I was thrilled at the prospect of being able to read my shampoo bottles in the shower without glasses and made an appointment for the procedure. During the actual procedure the chair that moves the patient between the two lasers malfunctioned. My eye flap on one eye had already been cut and the chair would no longer operate. I had to sit in a secondary room and wait while they called a representative from the chair company to troubleshoot it. Although I did finish the procedure that day it was a very upsetting process. However, after the procedure my vision was perfect so I was thrilled. 6 or so years later I noticed my vision seemed less and less crisp. Now, at the 9 year mark I can barely make out street signs. I had an appointment with my PCP to rule out medical concerns and then made an appointment with Dr. Vazan. When I called and told the receptionist my concerns she said regression after lasik "happens all the time." However, the current research I'm seeing shows it's less than 1% of patients. Anyway, during my appointment with him I learned that my vision is now very close to what it was before lasik. When I asked him why this happened he told me that eyes change over time and that is is not uncommon. When I reminded him that that's not what he said to me during my initial consultation he said that he never tells patients the procedure is a permanent fix. He then asked about my profession and daily habits. After I told him, he suggested that attending graduate school and reading in addition to looking at my phone were the causes of my significant regression and that he tells graduate students that they may experience eye changes from excessive studying. Well, he didn't say that to me when I had the procedure done and was in graduate school and I feel that him blaming my quite ordinary habits was almost offensive. He did offer to do a corrective surgery which he said would be painful and require extensive healing time. As a mom to 2 young kids thats not reasonable for me anyway but when I expressed that I had a traumatic experience in my last procedure he said "sometimes the unexpected happens" and several sentences later that "it was extremely unlikely anything like that would happen again." I'm sorry Dr. Vazan, but you also told me it was extremely unlikely my eyes would regress to the point where I can't read the Netflix menus but here we are. When I told him that I was discouraged that I paid a significant amount of money for this procedure (particularly for someone in their early 20s) and now I would have to pay for glasses for the rest of my life he said he waved the $20 copay for my appointment and I could use that towards glasses. Thanks a lot. After leaving my appointment I confirmed that the research shows that roughly 1% of people have the issues I have after lasik. So I suppose the point of this review is to say that if you are considering lasik with Dr. Vazan both he and the secretary I called and spoke with said regression after lasik is not uncommon. However, globally it is extremely rare. That, coupled with my traumatic surgery experience, and lack of any sort of compassion on the part of Dr. Vazan compelled me to write this review to suggest that you may consider looking elsewhere for lasik surgery, particularly if you hope it's a long term solution. I will say that the office staff was today, and has always been, pleasant to deal with and Gretchen is an absolute doll. I'll miss them as my family and I take our eye care somewhere else. read more

Called and had an appointment made for a CONTACT LENS UPDATE as they were told my routine eye care is taken care of through my military benefits. Gave my insurance information and was TOLD that everything would be fine with my insurance. I show up it takes them 30 minutes to "confirm" my insurance so they tell me they cant see me now so I can reschedule or come back in 45 minutes when they have another opening. Which never should have happened as it wasn't my fault it took them so long. Either way I brush it off and tell them ill be back in 45 minutes. Show up 45 minutes later just to be told I was lied to and my insurance doesn't cover the contact lens update that my appointment was SPECIFICALLY made for. Not only was i lied to but they couldn't have told me this BEFORE giving me another time to show up?!? Thank you spindel eye assoc. for having me take time out of my work day for absolutely NOTHING. Do not go to this eye Dr. their words cannot be trusted and they will have you leave work 3 hours early just to tell you something that could have been solved over the phone. After this occurs I call to ask to speak to a manager and i get put on hold just to be hung up on. I attempted to call back just for them to NOT ANSWER but to just pick up the phone and hang it back up. REAL professional. read more

I have no problem with the actual Eye care. But I do have a problem with their over booking. I waited 45 minutes over my appointment time for a five-minute follow up visit. My last optical experience was horrible (place is now out of business!) and my relatively new glasses are a mess, lenses were cut poorly and have been creating headaches for me and stick out beyond the frames. Decided to give Spindel a try and so happy I did! Nicole and her co-worker (sorry, I didn't catch his name) were super helpful, telling me ways to help avoid that same issue by picking out a frame with a different shape. Nicole let me browse and checked in with me without being intrusive. Their selection is relatively small, but so many styles. I was skeptical about finding anything, and in the end I had 4 pair I was trying to decide between! They gave me their opinions on what they thought looked best. Once I decided, the measurement and purchase processes were quick and easy. Nicole even went over discounts I qualified for, and I was happy to see they accept CareCredit, since these lenses and frames were coming out-of-pocket. I almost fell out of my chair when they told me the price, I was honestly expecting them to be at least $100.00 more based on other places I had been. Great experience all around! At Spindel Associates they charged both myself and my wife $77 each for our "free" annual exam....and yes they take our Harvard Pilgrim Stride insurance, but we were charged all the same. Go elsewhere with your insurance or be prepared to pay for your "free annual eye exam". Big rip off! Stay away or at the very least call before you go to see what Spindel Associates charges for your "free" exam. Good luck. read more

I have been going to Spindel Eye for 10 years now, they never cease to amaze me. Ever had an after hours issue with your eyes? My son scratched his eye at football and low and behold they are on call for their patients 24/7 365. I took him in and got the best service on a Sunday! LASIK was done by Dr Vazan and I can't say enough about what a great Dr he is, patient and understanding- took the time to really explain things and put me at ease. Vision went from 20/500 to 20/15 and I couldn't be happier. They might not be the cheapest but aren't your eyes worth it? I'm not paying less for last in class eye Dr elsewhere. read more

I had been very disappointed with my current optometrist and decided to visit Spindel Eye in Derry, NH yesterday . The visit from beginning to end was exceptional. I was seen immediately and was very impressed with the staff. Rob, the technician who performed the refraction, was the best I have every experienced. I typically find it a stressful event, always questioning if I am answering accurately. There was no question with Rob- he made it remarkably easy. Dr. Tina was excellent as well- very thorough and knowledgable. She told me that my eyes had only changed minimally and that new glasses were not really necessary. I appreciated her honesty. Although I could get away with my current Silhouttes, I was set on purchasing new ones and was fortunate to see Barry, the optician for this part of my visit. Barry is an extraordinary optician, he is extremely knowledgeable and puts the customer's needs above all else. I felt my current glasses were too big for my face; the frames were too short and hurt my ears. In addition, I wanted a second pair of glasses that would not tint for my daughter's wedding and was trying to figure out the best way to do this without spending a fortune. Barry spent at least 30 minutes trying to help me figure out what would be in my best interest. Even with insurance new silhouettes would cost an additional $560 dollars. He kept stressing that the new script was barely different from what I currently had. In reality, the glasses are larger than I would like but they work. I still had the issue with the short frames. Barry took the glasses and shrink wrapped silicone over the ear tips so they no longer hurt my ears. He suggested I think about purchasing the new pair overnight before I made a decision. After thinking it through, I realized it did not make sense to buy a new pair. Barry is truly a good man- he spent a great deal with me and had my best interest at heart for which I am most grateful. just had the MOST HORRENDOUS customer service experience at the optical department of Spindel Eye in Derry, NH. I was having trouble with the fit of my glasses and received absolutely minimal assistance from the staff there with them telling me that I basically had only a choice of two types of frames, neither of which were working for me. When I decided that I wanted to return the glasses and get my money back, I was told that the return could not be processed because the department manager was on vacation; that the staff covering in her absence were not authorized to process a return (that's disappointing). When I went back to the office the following week and spoke to the office manager, Joanna, I was first told "we don't do that" (???) and then when she did process my return, she said to me "if you want to do business here in the future...." and I honestly didn't hear what she said after that. I will NOT be going back to Spindel Optical. I did go to Salem Vision Center in Salem, NH and now have glasses that are fitting me very well and spent $100 less. read more

Dr. Spindel has decades of experience and teaches eye surgery. He is genuine, down-to-earth, practical, informative, and excellent at what he does. His staff are kind and very helpful. I found Dr. Spindel by recommendation of my uncle, and he performed a corrective LASIK surgery for me. When on the operating table, (*mid-operation*) my post-nasal drip caused complications as it allowed the fluids they put in my eyes to enter my nose and throat and block my breathing. Despite the unusual circumstances, he kept his cool, safely paused the procedure to help me sit up, clear my head, and breathe before resuming the operation. Despite the inevitable trauma this caused my right eye (the one being worked on when I couldn't breathe), he successfully finished the operation, and due to the complication, he met with me repeatedly to personally walk me through the recovery process. Due to his help, there were no repercussions from the complication, and I fully healed. If I ever had questions, I could call and speak with his associates who helped me immediately. I can now see everything so clearly! It is liberating and wonderful! I highly recommend Dr. Spindel and his team, especially if you need surgery. Don't merely search out the cheapest option: when it comes to your eyes, you don't look for coupons and buy-one-get-one-free sales. read more

My husband had cataract surgery with this clinic. It was TERRIBLE! We had a VERY long wait after arriving at our scheduled time. The office was packed like sardines. Basically, they do an assembly line type surgery here. You feel rushed to do your part and like you're just another number even tho they over book and make you wait. That isn't even the worst part tho. My poor husband got to the back and they supposedly gave him an IV sedative like they do for everyone. He said he felt absolutely no different. Not sedated at all. Not only did he feel anxious and stressed out, but the fact that he was not medicated and he had to FURTHER wait for another almost hour was almost too much and he almost walked out. Even if he had been sedated, would it have even been in effect after waiting so long? I'm guessing they use Versed or Valium which is just a short term sedation for a procedure that should last a few minutes. Once you've been waiting almost an hour after the supposed injection, it doesn't do much good. Then, when he got to the room, finally, he told them he didn't feel sedated at all and that he was very sensitive about his eyes. They poo poo'd that and told him to hold still. He kept moving during the procedure because he was so anxious and nervous and they kept telling him to hold still and getting frustrated with him. Seriously, wouldn't you be freaked out by someone screwing with your eyeball without sedation?! Before the surgery, he wasn't nervous at all because they reassured him he would be sedated. I couldn't believe what he told me when he came out. He said it was the worst experience he ever had. read more

Dr Spindel is the best! I'm always comfortable in his office. I really like the optical shop too. Bedside manner is not usually important to me, but Dr. Spindel is very patient and kind. That and his GREAT eye care sold me on him. I really like going for new glasses. One thing that really impressed me was his support for wounded veterans. Hid did a raffle to raise money to buy a special power wheel chair for disabled vets. That tells me all I need to know about the man, not just the doctor. I don't usually write reviews, but really felt compelled to after my last visit. read more

The optical shop at Spindel's has a return policy that charges the customer $30 for a "restocking" fee. They will not give a full return even if you have only had the glasses for a few hours and decide you do not like them. Lenscrafters and others I'm sure let you try out glasses for 30+ days and get a full return for any reason. I don't know why anybody that knew about the policy at Spindel's would buy glasses there. read more

I recently went for a cataract consultation after having been told by another doctor that I needed cataract surgery. I met with the doctor at Spindel and he immediately knew it was something much more severe. Fortunately they have a wonderful association with Lahey Hospital and a specialist was in the office at the time of my appointment. His name is Dr. Rao and he is the best! My eye pressure was sky high and they were able to do a laser procedure right there in the office to relieve the pressure. I could have easily lost the sight in my right eye if they had not diagnosed and resolved the problem quickly! They scheduled me for surgery at Lahey and my vision is now 20/20 and I couldn't be happier. The staff was incredible at both Spindel and Lahey and I can't thank them enough for all their kindness and support!!! I highly recommend Spindel Eye Associates to anyone that needs eye care and especially to everyone with difficult or complicated eye problems. They saved my eyesight and they can do the same for you! read more

What a wonderful office! Dr. Jerry Spindel is a great doctor. He is very knowledgable and always up to date on the newest research and information. I have been a patient here for many years and now bring my children. We are always greeted by friendly staff at the door and have a great time choosing glasses! My children were nervous coming here but the staff and doctors made them very happy and we really enjoyed helping my youngest see the blackboard again! She was very excited for her first day of 2nd grade and to show off her new glasses! I went into Spindel Eye for an eye exam and to get new glasses. I received my glasses and about three months after picking them up the lenses got scratched. Not large ones but enough that it bothered me to see out of them. Spindel Eye replace the lenses as they were still under warranty. A few months later the same thing happened. I take very good care of my glasses and only use the special cloth they gave me to clean them. I put them in the case every night. Now, they refuse to replace the lenses even though they Are still under warranty. After paying so much for glasses I don't understand why they are not standing behind their product and correcting this for me I will never return there nor will I give them any good reviews or recommend them to anyone. Also I have never had glasses that showed the strength embedded directly into the lenses. When I wiped the glasses with the cloth that they gave me it leaves a film on the glasses which makes it hard to see clearly. I do believe that they use a cheap version of the protective coating. First I want to start off by saying that Dr. Sarah Wood is great! However, in her absence I saw a Dr. O'block for a routine eye exam and dry eyes which I have had my entire life. Dr. O'block proceeded to remove an eye lash (that was not bothering me whatsoever) and bill my health insurance without my knowledge for a procedure code and diagnosis of "complaint of foreign body sensation in the eye". I subsequently received a bill for $250. There is so many things wrong with this. 1. I made no such complaint, so as far as I'm concerned, that is fraud on Dr. O'block's behalf to manipulate his documentation. 2. Dr. Wood has removed this for years and I have never been billed for it as it takes less than a second to remove and in no way can be deemed a" procedure." I am a Registered Nurse that has been in the healthcare field for over 16 years and this is appalling. The fact that a doctor could so easily manipulate a situation in order to bill a persons health insurance without any regard what the cost would be to the patient is actually heart wrenching. I have subsequently had no help to rectify this by both my health insurance or Spindel billing department which is a whole other fiasco. Therefore, I have decided to leave the practice. As much as I love Sarah Wood, I cannot in good conscience allow my family to be affiliated with a practice where this kind of medical fraud can take place. In closing, I urge you all to ask questions and be aware of how you are being billed for every thing that is being done to you. Pay attention to how they are billing you, whether it's your vision plan or health insurance because apparently they don't have to tell you and like everyone else, we live in a day with high deductibles. I recently began working for a new company so my insurance provider changed. I went to lenscrafters my entire life and was extremely satisfied with their services; however, they are no longer in my network so i decided to try Spindel since it is located in my town. Needless to say, I will be finding another provider for next years well-vision exam. I was charged $70 (thats with insurance covering) for an appointment with a tech. I have nothing against technicians, however if I have a Doctors appointment and i am paying Doctor price, I expect to atleast be introduced to this mysterious Doctor of mine. $60 of that $70 fee went towards a "contact fitting" which literally I put contacts in my eyes, they shined a light on them and said "they fit good". No shit, i have had the same contact brand for 3 years. i know they fit. Then when i went back out into the lobby, i was interested in also purchasing a new set of glasses, walked around for 30 minutes and noone came up to me to assist me or ask if i was all set or needed any help. It was a total rip off, service was terrible, and i highly suggest you take your money elsewhere. read more
