This place is a hidden gem. We were driving through Annandale and spotted it on the side of the road and had to try it. The venue is large and has a huge parking lot. The beer selection was super good and able to do flights and interact with the staff. We got to talk for a while with one of the brewers and learned a lot about the history and how they brew their beer. I tried the root beer also and one of the best I've had in a long time. The Speakeasy and Pinkalicious are great. Speakeasy was a beer that tastes like an old fashioned and very unique. If you are in Annandale, you have to stop and try them out!!! read more

So glad I swung in here and checked this place out. They are pumping out some amazing beers here. The speakeasy beer was so unique and tasted just like an old fashioned. Highly recommend getting a flight and trying out four different brews. I enjoyed them all - don't think you can go wrong. An absolute gem. This is a great brewery located in the Heart of the Lakes. The beer is fantastic and they often have great food trucks. The service is always great. If you aren't into alcohol, their house made root beer is a must try. read more

Breweries are a special place. Spoiled Grain Brewhouse is a nice setting with plenty of seating in the main area as well as down by the fermenters. Fairly large selection of brews currently offering some good higher abv selections. Overall good beer. That's the cool part of micro breweries! They each have their own flavor and sure, some may prefer one over another, but it's nice to try the various approaches to the different brews. Service is always friendly and helpful. Random stop during a beerventure with friends, Spilled Grain became my 94th MN brewery visited. We went right after visiting Aegir Brewing and the bar was set really high. Unfortunately it wasn't quite met. The space is huge; ton of seating in a dimly lit large hall with a good sized bar and some extra seating in the back where the brewing equipment is. There is a giant projector set up front so it makes sense for this place to be a popular destination for patrons to watch some sports and drink some beer or bigger groups and families. We opted for a flight to try multiple of their brews and had a variety of pilsner, ale, IPA, and a shandy. Sadly, the Porch Swing shandy was the only drinkable beer and I feel like that says a lot because shandies are pretty much impossible to mess up. Even my friend who hates shandies said this one was the best beer we had; that's how bad the rest were. I absolutely love shandies and this was one was beyond fantastic....I wanted to take a crowler home. For this one beer I'm raising the stars from one to two. The supposedly "Czech" pilsner was nothing like an actual Pilsner (czech girl over here so I get to say that). Something about it was so off and way too bitter. The other beers were also just forgettable, bland, and simply not good. Maybe we came during the wrong time or something, not sure. We've heard this place wins a ton of awards...can't imagine why. Maybe it's just the fact that there's nothing better nearby to compare it to? I don't know what I'm missing. And the fact that my other two friends who are much bigger beer aficionados than myself agree reassures me I'm not imagining this. I wish the beers were much better even though I loved the shandy. We might stop by here at some point in the future just to see how they're doing but we most likely won't rush back anytime soon. read more

I had the opportunity to get off of I-94 South onto rural roads and passed through tiny Annandale and the Spilled Grain Brewhouse. I had heard about Spilled Grain, but I've never seen it on tap or on the shelf. So, I was very pleasantly surprised about the selection of IPAs on tap. I went with a flight followed by a double IPA that I liked. All of the beers I sampled were executed quite well; better than many of the "second tier" breweries near the Twin Cities. I enjoyed an early dinner from the food truck outside (BBQ), snarfing up my food while enjoying my big ABV beer. The moderately large tasting room hosted a rather boisterous crowd on a Saturday late afternoon, but the bartenders easily kept up with beer orders. Getting back to Annandale and Spilled Grain may take a while for me, but I will certainly stop in whenever possible. It looks as if they have solid offerings and a good-sized clientele. read more

As a local I love having a brewery with amazing beer options with a variety of flavors. They have friendly staff and a nice taproom. The taproom has games for kids and/or adults to enjoy. They also often have great food truck options, but have snacks to enjoy for purchase. I really love the root beer and they also carry a variety of N.A. options too! I've traveled all around the country and stopped at many breweries. Spilled Grain ranks as a top 3 more me. They have a beer for everyone. It's a huge space and smells like hops right when you walk in. Large space and great service. Nice heated outdoor seating. Huge fan of the crooked rafter and amber wave. This is the only place I grab drinks in the Annandale area. Would recommend stopping by and making the trip even if you're from the metro. Won't be disappointed. read more

This is by far & away my favorite brewery I've been to since moving to Minnesota - and we've been to quite a few around where we live in MSP! This brewery is about 5 minutes from my family's lake cabin in Annandale, and I finally got around to visiting last weekend with my husband & parents. I'm not a huge beer person, so usually I only love 1-2 beers when I visit a new brewery. At Spilled Grain? I loved them ALL. Seriously, every single tester I got was incredible. My favorites were the lake series, especially Sylvia. SO. GOOD. The space is awesome too, tons of seating and they have some foosball tables in back. Great patio space, and a FANTASTIC food truck when we were there (Gouda Q BBQ). Top notch brews all around. I thoroughly enjoyed each of the 6 samplers I had on my flight (see pics for names). The Irish was a standout, which surprised me because it's not typically a style I seek out. The Small Town SMaSH #2 was also one of the best pale ales I've had in a long time and the Imperial Brown collaboration between them and Lupulin clocking in at nearly 10% was a beaut. Great looking tap room and bar area. In talking with one of the owners, I learned a little about their journey and he pointed out some of the unique features and designs in the building, such as the reclaimed red brick around the bar to back of the house doorway from an old school in town that was demolished. The architecture and decor lends a definite down home and cozy vibe. Looks to be reclaimed barn wood on the exterior, too. I definitely need to come back on a warmer day to enjoy the outdoor seating area. All in all, I'm thoroughly impressed by what this place has to offer. Great expertly crafted beer, cool digs, and nice people, all less than an hour drive west of "the cities". Don't just take my word for it; get out here to check it out for yourself! read more

A great example of a small town brewery done well. About a dozen beers on tap of multiple varieties so there's sure to be something up your alley - and the beers are good! From their staple IPA to a SMASH to a peach blonde. I've yet to come across a beer with that odd bitter aftertaste I've come to recognize from some of the newer places. Nice building, lots of space with a ceiling that reminds me of an old barn (which judging from the outside it could have been actually). There's a couple large tables and a handful of 4 seaters along with a couple couches, and a nice patio outside. The servers are friendly and our last stop in on a Sunday evening they actually had a crockpot of homemade chilly that we helped ourselves to. Food options otherwise are a bit limited obviously, but Jimmy's Pizza right down the street will deliver to them (think Heggie's style thin crust). Not a frequent stop for us but for those 1-2 times a year we hang at our friend's cabin, it's a must on the way home! read more

Located in the middle of nowhere this place is killing it it. To build credibility only I have been a home brewer since 1991 and have won a bunch of awards on the home brew circuit including the best IPA in the state. I have brewed on large systems and do r&d for a brewing for a brewery in NE Minneapolis. There location is outside the Metro or I would be there all the time. There location is a drive but they are nailing quality beer. I consider them in the top 5 for best beer producers in Minnesota. If they say this is this then it is. They nail the styles crossed the board. Also the owners are great people and really care about there industry and there customers. One of my favorites so go by beer and help them help you.
