I had a really great time here! The Spike burger is great- I got mine with pepperjack. I also upgraded my chips to wedges and they were super crispy and delicious! It was about 5:30 when I got there and there was a small wait for a table inside, but they got me in pretty quick. The server was very kind and the food was served quick. The locals are very friendly and approached my table a couple times to talk to my toddler and me. The pricing was reasonable. The kid's food has very generous portions for a good price. The walls were filled with military and sports memorabilia, which felt right at home in Grayling. Despite that, it still had a cozy, welcoming vibe. Service was great! Very friendly and quick! The food didn't disappoint! I got the Parmesan garlic wing dings, and they were delicious. It was only a couple bucks more to add fries, which was a nice surprise. My husband had one of the burgers and said it was super juicy and full of flavor. The kids got chicken tenders (classic choice for them) and, of course, barely touched them (but that's just what they do, haha). We started with the pretzel bites and the chips with salsa and cheese. Everything was really tasty, but the beer cheese with the pretzels was the standout! All in all, if we're back in the area, we'd definitely stop in again. Worth a visit! read more

She then vanished and ultimately returned with "all set here?," glancing at the untouched salad adorned with the rotten lettuce one top, leaving us to wonder if we were in a restaurant or a bad comedy sketch. Came here with friends who are new to the area but heard Spikes was highly recommended for their burgers. There was a 20 minute wait so we got drinks while we waited and my friend got me a Blood Orange Margarita, which didn't look like the fruit's telltale darker red color, nor did it taste like an orange. There was a good pour for liquor so I still drank it. It was from the patio bar, but the Jameson's Orange Mule from inside, where we were seated, was spot on plus came in an insulated copper mug! ** Be aware that the menus are different depending on where you sit; larger menu options inside. My friends dad wanted the smelt dinner... inside only. So if you look at the menu before you are seated, didn't know what you want. Be sure to ask the host where you should sit in order to receive your choice. I ordered the patty melt with waffle fries with a half pound burger and it was absolutely amazing! The burger patty was hot and juicy and it hit the spot. They have a private parking lot with a good amount of spots, but I noticed only one handicap parking spot!? If you have to use a mobility aid (a walker or wheelchair) you can get in the main entrance and for the most part move around the tables fairly well. The bathrooms are not handicap, accessible, with narrow doorways and standard toilet height in a cramped stall. I did not peek in the other stall as someone was in there. Ambience was nice with a log cabin feel to it with lots of bar/cottage/nautical items on the walls. The noise level is pretty loud with music playing, and it was crowded on a Saturday night so there was a lot of chatter. There were a few high top tables to sit at, standard height tables and 3 to 4 booths plus seating at the bar. The outdoor patio area had all low tables with metal chairs that I find uncomfortable, so I was glad we were inside and wooden chairs with padding. our server was a delightful young lady, and I wish I remembered her name to single her out for her professional yet very pleasant demeanor. She was attentive at all the right times and made our whole dining experience very enjoyable. read more

Spikes has been here a long time and is a tradition for many. Parents have eaten here for years. Very classic "camp Grayling" vibe with a simple menu and basic bar selection. The prices are high to average and the quality of food is slightly below divebar expectations. Some things we liked: Although the burgers were smallish, they tasted good. The fries and onion rings were great despite being over-priced add ons. The old pictures inside are neat. Some things we didn't like: The prices are steep for a dive bar, every burger in our group was cooked the same, I don't know why they bothered to ask our preference. The waitstaff was indifferent to everyone, mostly competent but not caring or interesting in anyway. The food is boring. The evening bartender is a jerk (Michael?), and they want $4 bucks to upgrade your side from chips to fries. The chips are better, actually. One thing that Spike should address immediately: if someone calls your business 3x and tries to give a heads up that a group of 10 is coming and can you accommodate them, asks if there are reservations and you tell them, "no but we can put you in a side/back room" all three times; maybe don't treat them like garbage when they arrive and try to tell you that the afternoon bartender said it was handled... Your hostess and evening bartender were rude and insisted "we have never taken reservations, you must be mistaken". While that may be true, it rubs people the wrong way when you call them a liar (Michael). Either teach all of your staff the rules, or let people with groups call ahead. At the very least don't blame your customers for your organization's short-comings. So to summarize, Spike's is a local dive bar with burgers, smelt, sandwiches and beer. If you have more than 4 people in your group, skip this place for sure. There are better options in town and you will be happier over all. It's a bit over priced and seems to live off of tradition. If you came here a lot in the past, it may not live up to your memories. If you really like eating here for some reason, by all means carry on - you won't get sick and they have beer and mostly the same menu. We won't be back. read more

Every time we are near Grayling we HAVE to come to Spike's Keg O Nails. Everything about this place is great, which is the important detail, now I'll get into the nitty gritty. Our favorite thing on the menu is of course a Spikeburger. The patties are cooked to perfection and just a bit crispy on the outside with the perfect amount of toppings. Burgers are served with chips, which is fine but you can get onion rings, fries, tots or waffle fries (for an upcharge). Snacks/Appetizers I'm sure are all really good as well. But our favorites are onion rings, mozzarella wedges, wing dings, fries and fried green beans. The chicken strips are delicious, they're the standard frozen premaid strips that you just simply cannot mess up! I believe the ranch is made in house because it's SO GOOD! Be sure you get it to dip everything in that you order. Also, my daughters ordered pizza from the kids menu and it's huge! It's either an 8" or 10" personal pizza and it did not dissappoint. I think that for your first time, it's a must that you order a burger or you're messing up. The atmosphere here (at the original) is so good! Almost every time we have been here there is a wait to be seated. The service is so good and the food is so good that we have always waited, no matter how long the wait is. The bar itself is great. In case you didn't know, Spikes is home to the start of the Ausable River Canoe Marathon. So be sure to check out the photos/stories, canoes and other really great decor throughout the entire bar and restaurant. Vintage, loud, a feisty waitress (yeah-I used the W word), TouchTunes, but FABULOUS food and bar and staff works their asses off. While vacationing here in Grayling, my wife and I decided to try out Spike's. Upon entering this place, one notices how dark it is inside. The seating is somewhat rustic with dark wood. Small dining area BUT they are expanding to more updated indoor/outdoor room. Much nicer with the glass garage doors. Staff was attentive and polite. We ordered onion rings as a appetizer. Their Boom Boom sauce was a perfect heat for me. My wife ordered a veggie patty melt and I went with their signature 1/3lb Spike Burger. Both came out hot. Her patty melt was good but a black bean burger really doesn't go well with that combination. My Spike Burger was outstanding. Great flavor. I would order it again. Now for the negative. I give Spike's a black mark on their nickel and diming me on my burger. They charged me $.75 for the cheese. I get that and I am fine with that. $.25 for the we lettuce? Really guys? $.25 for the mayo. Who charges for the mayo?? $.50 for the grilled onions. Come on Spikes. You can do better. Charging for the lettuce and Mayo didn't sit well. Absorb it in the total price of the burger. You can do better Spike owners. I'm surprised they didn't charge me for the ice and and straw. My wife and I had lunch here today.
