Unfortunately, I didn't take any pictures of the food, probably because it wasn't much to look at. I ordered poached eggs, but they came out hard-boiled. The sausage gravy was just okay, but I couldn't eat the eggs. I even cut one open and left a half on the plate so it was obvious the yolk had been cooked solid. The waitress never once asked why I wasn't eating them or if there was anything wrong. What disappointed me even more was the service. She never came back to check on us after the food was delivered. When she finally returned to refill our coffee, she was talking to someone else and looking in another direction, so there wasn't even an opportunity to mention the issue. To top it all off, I accidentally left my white Yeti behind. I went back first thing the next morning, and they told me it wasn't there. It's literally the only place I went that day, so that was pretty disappointing as well. Overall, it wasn't just the food. Mistakes happen. Great lil old school breakfast diner. Service was quick and friendly. They were on top of it with checking in and topping off coffee. I ordered the lumberjack breakfast and our server accidentally entered it as the Mini Jack, which is basically a half portion for kids. This was perfect for me, as the full portion would have been way too much food and I didn't realize I could order the Mini Jack... happy accident. :) My boyfriend's ham & cheese omelette was delicious. He's also a corned beef hash snob and gave it a double thumbs up. It was opening day for rifle season, and albeit being extremely busy, we did find a seat no problem and it never affected their service. Passing through Grayling on the way to Traverse City, we decided to stop for lunch. We didn't want fast food nor a super long meal, so the Grayling Restaurant fit our needs perfectly. It's good "diner type" food. And while it won't win any awards for culinary creativity, it does the basics well. I ordered two eggs (a la carte) and these were "fine" but definitely reminded me of the "Included" breakfast buffet eggs you often see at a hotel. I mean they are ... scrabbled eggs. But I also got the cinnamon roll pancakes. These were the perfect mix and sweet and flavorful cinnamon treats. They came with butter and syrup but I can't imagine needing either one. My husband had a patty melt and said it had a lot of onions and was tasty. Our server, Jody, provided friendly service and the restaurant decor featured old newspaper articles and maps. It was pretty cool. We'd definitely say if you want a quick bite to eat while in or passing through Grayling, it's a way better option than fast food. read more

This is a true Main Street USA little area. It was very popular and we actually had to wait about 10 minutes for a table. However, it was well worth the wait. The staff was friendly, hometown vibes and the food was abundant and delicious. The feel of the space was very local and friendly. W/ eggs, toast & tomatoes I made a sandwich in addition to the fried steak which was perfectly breaded & large plus the gravy was actually good b/c don't usually like country gravy. Cinnamon pancake was loved by kids. Home fries plate was huge & nicely cooked. The sweet potato tots was a favorite & enjoyed by all. Side salad was really a large size too. My family has a cottage in Grayling and this is a favorite spot for breakfast. I enjoyed the Spinach omelette, hash browns, and toast with an iced tea today. Lots of filling in the omelette! Mom had a medical test at the hospital today and couldn't eat before the test. I told her I'd take her out for breakfast after if she was a good girl. Our favorite place is closed on Wednesdays, so we stopped at the Grayling Restaurant near the hospital. Hadn't been here in a few years so I was hoping it was still a good breakfast place. Today was my lucky day as I Was able to get a parking spot in front of door. Very helpful for Mom who has a bum knee and refuses to use her walker most times and won't let me buy her a travel wheelchair. We slowly ambled in and the place was bustling. By the time we sat down the place was full and a line was forming out the door. I forgot that the paddlers from around the US and other countries were in town for the AuSable River Canoe Marathon. If you're into canoeing the marathon is a challenge. Its overnight along the AuSable River from Grayling,MI to Oscoda, MI. 120 miles of challenge maneuvering around several dams and bridges. This is the 75th year. Like I said today was my lucky day. We were seated to a booth. Server immediately asked us what we wanted to drink. Answer: coffee, coffee, and more coffee. It was 1030am and we hadn't had anything to eat or drink since waking up. Silly me! I wasn't the one getting the medical test but in support of Mom I followed along with her Dr's orders. I sure hope my daughter is paying attention. Lol!! Like many restaurants in northern Michigan the inside decor is outdated but service and food is very good. I had two eggs over easy, with sausage patties, and marble rye toast. They gave me four nice size sausage patties. Glad Mom didn't order any meat with her Cinnamon Raisin French Toast. The yolks were nice and runny with firm egg whites. I like when a restaurant has the jam and creamer on the table. I like variety so I can choose which jam(s) I want. I couldn't believe that Mom did not have a doggie bag this time. Her and I cleaned our plates. Our server stopped by several times to freshen the coffee and ensure everything was good. She was zipping around like a bunny but smiling every second. Remember I mentioned a canoe marathon. Well while we were waiting on our food a gentleman approached us about buying 50/50 raffle tickets for the marathon. At first I got a little defensive since I'm always leary of strangers. I politely said no thank you. Of course as I watched him with other customers, I called him over when he was near our table and bought 5 tickets. I think we talked 5 minutes about motorcycles and serving in the military. As we leave the restaurant a older lady approaches us and ask us if it was crowded. Mom said yes, but our table we just left should be available. The lady went in and came back out. Apparently in the place filled up before we got to the car. The lady was sweet and thanked us. Most small towns in northern Michigan are welcoming. Most people who live in them year round appreciate the visitors for helping the local community. read more

Where to begin?? 2 adults - 1 11-yo Here in Grayling on vacation Came in about 11:00am Monday morning. Place was packed but didn't seem overly-crowded. Place is CLEAN - I mean, you can tell when you walk in the door. Immediately greeted by a super friendly young lady the moment we walked in the door. We were seated, and the same young lady proceeded over to the table, provided our flatware and took our drink orders. She returned quickly with our drinks, and told us the name of our server and that she would be with us shortly. And then Ashley came. Friendly young lady, greeted us with a smile, asked if we had any questions and took our order. I ordered a western omelette with Michigan fries. My son ordered the bacon & egg cheeseburger with onion rings, and my husband ordered the ham and cheese omelette with hashbrowns and a small side of biscuits and gravy. To say that this meal was absolutely phenomenal is an understatement. Our omelettes were loaded with their respective meats and vegetables. My Michigan fries? Could've been a side dish all their own. I looked at my husband's biscuits and gravy, and of course, wanted to taste. Biscuit tasted fresh, and homemade. The gravy was delicious, no salty taste and no grease. One of the best gravies I've had anywhere. Ashley came back to our table a couple times, just to check on us and see if we need drink refills, very accommodating yet unobtrusive. Service was absolutely top-notch right along with the food. Not only will we be back, but we will absolutely be singing this places' praises to anyone that we know that is heading up this way. I haven't been to this restaurant in twenty years, but they have still got it. The restaurant boasts quick service, reasonable price (breakfast for 4 people $29), and banging Blueberry Pancakes. They also recommend their cinnamon bun pancakes, but that seemed like a sugar overload and so we were afraid, rather our pancreases were. What is the plural of pancreas, pancreai? Great coffee, in extremely cozy quarters. This place is busy so depending on the time of day, expect a short wait. They have buzzers to let you know when your table is ready. My in-laws recently purchased a second property in the area and we were looking to explore the downtown area and have a bite to eat. They had already been to the Grayling Restaurant and loved the experience. When we went, we got there around, 9 AM on a weekday, we were able to walk right in and choose whatever booth or table we wanted. We opted for a booth in the back corner. We were approached by our server, I believe her name was Ashley and I remember that because my name is Ashley as well. She was great in explaining all of the menu items. She also offered my son a coloring book and some crayons to keep him Occupied while we placed our orders. It was still breakfast time so my mother-in-law ordered the farmers omelette, I got an egg white, spinach, and onion omelette, light on the feta cheese, my son ordered the little lumberjack off of the kid's menu, my husband ordered biscuits & gravy, and my father-in-law ordered the regular size lumberjack/2 egg breakfast. For how much food we ordered, our food came out rather quickly. Very generous in portion sizes, yummy food, reasonable prices, and fast service. It was also decorated very cute for Halloween when we went in there. Warm and friendly and quaint. You walk in, grab the newspaper, grab a coffee, and enjoy as long as you want in your little area. Seated immediately, coffee served quickly, and orders arrived promptly, all with friendly conversation & smiles. Our eggs were cooked perfectly but my bacon was overcooked - rather that than greasy undercooked bacon! You know this is a staple in Grayling, the hometown restaurant. I love how it feels like yesteryear. Their coffee has something to be desired, I would def step that up a notch, but listen nobody and I mean nobody does better hash browns. Good solid American breakfast. And the staff and waitresses have always been super attentive and helpful so thank you for that. read more
