This family owned business is a hidden gem. The place is not modern but what it lacks in current times, it basks in history. The original owner passed but his daughter has kept the traditions alive. There are items on the menu that are marked to have been the original owner's favorites. The food was good and the service was great! The Greek gyro was in a wrap form but was extremely good. The mushroom burger was a bit lacking. The sweet potatoe fries were delicious! The place is clearly liked by locals as it was nearly empty when we arrived and standing room only when we left. I ordered a gyro & salad combo. The menu said it came with potato chips and below it said you could sub chip for fries, so fries or onion rings. I told the waitress I wanted to sub out the chips for so fires. Not once did she say oh chips are not included in the gyro you ordered just all the other gyros?! Huh? She said it won't even allow her ring it up that way. Then why not come back to the table and tell me that? Instead you ring in the large order not even the small order! Added over $6 to my lunch tab. I doubt I will be back. Fix your menu or train your staff better. That should have been taken off my bill period. We are on vacation and this popped up on google. We stopped by for breakfast and we were so happy! The food came out super fast! The staff was so kind and filling the coffees and drinks for everyone in a full place over and over at like rapid speed lol. The food is home style stuff we had in our home town as kids. We found this local gem as we landed at Traverse City Airport and we wanted something from a local restaurant. Randy's is a special place, quaint and full of great food options ranging from traditional hamburgers, to turkey and gravy, to roast beef and gravy and a nice assortment of Salads with homemade dressing. I like to ask places like this, what is your favorite thing on the menu and i was pleasantly surprised to hear that fried cod with homemade dip is their specialty!!! Wow, was the cod fantastic, crisp, but not overdone, nice large white flaky chunks of fish...no need for any condiments, no sauce of any kind...the natural succulent flavor was all that was needed. Took my mother out to breakfast. We love local places that are recommended by locals. I was referred here by the folks at Sleder's tavern and agree with their recommendation. Home cooked-style breakfast. Mom enjoyed a waffle,...me, I enjoyed the corned beef hash, scrambled eggs, hash brow and with rye toast and gravy. $24 + tip for the two of us and worth every penny. A perfect diner experience! It was a busy morning, but we didn't have to wait long and we were immediately greeted when we walked in. They graciously accommodated our odd number group (5) and moved some tables together for us. The mother-daughter duo that were waitressing were fantastic and were running that full diner like pros! The service was great, the food was very yummy and fast, and the atmosphere was exactly what we were looking for in a breakfast place. My group all said we wished we have a Randy's we're we live! I was pleasantly surprised by how good the food was! The Korean Salad made my day! The seasoning they put on the steak is a stunning addition and the Korean dressing made it all the more flavorful! Flagrant hospitality with its arms wrapped around Mdwest comfort food, including breakfasts served all day, and lunches with some fresh and healthy salad and wrap options. But that shouldn't tempt you away from their burgers and meatloaf if that is what part of a diner menu speaks to you. Because their burgers are hard to beat, unless you are more of a hand-battered cod kind of person, which this place also does really well. Have a shake or a malt, or a piece of banana cream pie or strawberry rhubarb sometimes. They grind the beans for their coffee, which brews from open to close. We stopped in to have lunch at The Diner before heading home to Grand Rapids after a a few days of R&R in Traverse City and we sure were glad we did! I observed a lot of "locals", army vets and folks whom the waitresses knew by name and what they liked to drink right away! We ordered the Beef & Mushroom Noodle Soup which was delicious and reminded me of something my Grandmother would make. Next we had the Walleye, fries and coleslaw that was up on their Menu/Dry erase board along with the soups and desserts and sandwich specials. ( I wish I could have had a taste of each of their featured soups! ) The Walleye was a nice big fillet that had a delicious batter and I loved how it was served with a big squeeze bottle of homemade tartar sauce that was great with our fries! The chicken and cod were both lightly battered and crispy. The amazing fries were good, but I didn't get the hype. Staff was friendly and attentive.
