Just a homey pub with outstanding food, service and ambience. Perfect place for watching a game with dinner and a drink. Prices are reasonable for the portions and quality. Solid bar and atmosphere can't complain for a Saturday night, but bouncer with graying beard and funky figure kicking us out for no reason other than vendetta was poor. Friday night he took my beer while I was in the bathroom because I was sitting back while watching pool, the next night my buddy having a conversation with another guy was enough for him to kick us out. The guys having a conversation even vouched for him saying everyone was cool, but he had in his mind we weren't meant to be there and pushed us out regardless. Had two balls left in a pool game, that our opponents asked him to let us finish, and three other guys vouching but his power trip got to his head and was rude regardless. Realized after I got home and unfortunately paid cash so I don't have a receipt and was in a hurry ( got charged for using my credit card even though paid cash), I got the wrong bill at first, and after getting the correct bill I realized I got a sandwich and found it odd it didn't come with fries, and I paid full price, and got home and looked the menu up on the facebook page and sure enough it does come with fries! Timothy's in Gaylord has the feel of a local establishment, one that has been there for a long time. It has an Up North vibe, dark with wood beams. There's an area set up for a band at the front of the building, but we were there on Thursday night and it was quiet. There are pool tables which were also not in use and a large bar in the rear of the building. The food was typical; burgers, fried fish etc. although old, the place was spotless, including the bathrooms. I ordered a two piece cod dinner with fries and Cole slaw. The fish servings were huge and perfectly fried- a mild crunch with tender fish inside. The tartar sauce and Cole slaw were delicious and full of flavor. The fries were seasoned well and not exceptional but hot, as they should be. My husband had a shrimp basket with a side salad. The shrimp were size 10-13? And huge. There were six of them! Homemade batter was the same as the cod and very good. The side salad was well made with tomato, onion, lettuce and cucumber. Very reasonably priced and very well done. read more

We went to Timothy's to celebrate my birthday last Saturday. Sat down at dirty table, waited for 15 minutes to even be acknowledged. Only one waitress for the entire floor but 3 bartenders for a double sided 15 foot bar. When the waitress tried to put menus on the table I pointed out that the table had not been wiped. She stormed off to grab a rag and spray bottle came back sprayed the cleaner on the table pointing toward us, knocked over items in the middle of the table and muttered that they haven't had time to clean. She was obviously overwhelmed. Another 8 minutes passed before we were rudely handed our menus and were not even offered drinks. We left and went up the street to Lucky's and had a much more civilized and enjoyable dinner. read more

Also overcooked and dry. Unable to eat meal. Informed waitress and heard cook reply to her "tell them there's a McDonalds down the street". So we found ourselves here randomly, I had planned try try the brunch at the bearded dog lounge. However upon arrival there we were welcomed by a dark building and a posted sign stating not having the proper staff didn't allow them to open today for the normal 10am to 2pm Sunday brunch. Timothys pub was only 0.1 miles away and we've never tried it so we figured "why not" the menu online looked large with many options including calamari and Irish infused items.... However, yet another impact of the pandemic... they had a very lean simplistic temporary menu. We walked in to the owner being the waiter and bartender and a young guy sitting at the bar that turned out to be the cook. We were the only guests but it was noon on a Sunday. Parking lot fits maybe 4 vehicles and it's tight. Better to street park or part in a public lot and walk. The interior is very cool a nice blend of new and old in a cozy rustic cabin like vibe. Stone floor features, antiques displayed, an electric dart board and a digital jukebox. The bar was clean and I loved the neon sign. A true small town up north bar. The gentleman behind the bar was super friendly and brought my draft craft beer and a small Bloody Mary to my mom promptly. The Bloody Mary was basic and had no "fixings" so no olive or pickle on a skewer and nothing on the rim. She didn't expect anything fancy but that's typically the standard. My beer was cold and poured perfect, I got a Perrin black ale. We ordered the loaded pub fries and two burgers. The temporary menu was not too exciting and nothing enticed up too much. The cook whom was seated at the bar heard us ordering and headed right to the back and got cooking. The loaded fries were delicious and could have fed 3-4 ppl but we were just two hangry gals and we cleared the plate. Dressed like a baked potato as far as toppings. As for our burgers, they were cooked as we ordered but arrived very plain. No Mayo or spread on the buns... we had bottled condiments on the table but still... my burger was called the Irish cheddar burger and sounded unique in the description. Sadly it didn't come as described and was literally a burger patty topped with kind of sautéed white thick onion slices and Colby jack cheese. My moms burger was a mushroom Swiss but the mushrooms were for sure canned and flavorless... she added salt and pepper to add flavor. Long and short. They are doing their best and the food was fine. Hot, fairly priced. Cooked okay. Just boring and your average bar food. The service and atmosphere was GREAT! I'd come back when the full menu returns for sure but today I was not impressed but not let down either. Bet this bar is slamming on weekend nights. read more

They're missing the mark here, and not by a lot, but it's just off. Many people say this place was one of the best not too long ago, but our visit left us unsure if we'd return. The food was OK, the beer was OK, the waitress was awesome, but she was the only one and spread too thin. This is definitely a mixed bag. This is a gorgeous northern Michigan log venue Some of the regular entrees deserve high marks as do a few of the employees. Prices are reasonable. The Prime rib sandwich and the fish basket are huge and delectable. Most of the barmaids and waitstaff are decent. Unfortunately, you are apt to recall who is not. On several occasions, I have experienced less than poor service from a barmaid who is insolent, loud and rude - This individual boldly serves her friends before you who have arrived after you have been waiting for service. She and employees like her would not last a single shift in a reputable eatery/bar elsewhere. Staff like her can sour you on patronizing the place. Generally, I get the worst service 'up north' slow, people don't know what they're doing, definitely the B Crew employees. If you do not hail from the area and are known to be a transplant you will be shunned and ostracized by the locals, most of whom will need a dictionary to understand this scathing review! read more

Caution: I'm writing this review as a reminder to myself to not ever come back to Timothy's Pub in Gaylord, MI. The Good: 1. Our waitress was friendly but did not go out of her way to make this experience any more pleasant. The Needs Improvement: 1. My retired parental unit ordered the prime rib dinner because he read that it was supposedly so delicious. Unfortunately, he did not have a delicious experience! The prime rib was so tough that he could not chew it! I literally watched my father spit his food out! For as many times we have eaten together this was the very first time I witnessed him doing this. I was a bit shocked and knew from this action alone we would not ever be back nor recommend Timothy's Pub to our family and friends. 2. The beer battered mushrooms = a disappoint! They may look good in the photo but regrettably the batter was not cooked all the way. 3. You'd think it would be hard to mess up a patty melt but.....the pub patty melt was flavorless. The fries that came with it were your typical Gordon Food Service fries - I could have made better at home. 4. The pulled pork sandwich was also a disappointment. My husband stated that the bun was salty and the pulled pork tasted like it had just been warmed up in the microwave. 5. Needless to say: all three of us did not finish our meals. 6. The atmosphere is dark, dreary and is overall gross and dirty with dust everywhere you look! 7. The drinks were crappy - you could barely taste the whiskey in our 7&7s! Terrible service! Driving through Gaylord and after reading reviews we decided to give Timothy's a try. The restaurant closes at 2AM, we got there at 8PM. We were right away told they were running out of food and that they only had fried food. After looking over the menu we decided what fried food and drinks we were going to order, however, we waited for 10 minutes without anyone coming by to take our drink or food orders. Don't let the guys sitting at the bar with aggressive face tattoos scare you away. This place has ok food. The bartender who I will guess owned the place based on his prideful prating on about his 16 hour days like it's a badge of honor. Side note: It appears to be in northern Michigan. Some may have found his gruff attitude and foul mouth toward the customers offensive. I found it rather charming, like I was watching History Channel's Gangland re-enactment of a Hells Angles' bar. He's seen it all and can't be fazed by your desire to have your appetizer come out before your meal. You'll get it all at the same time and you'll like it, snowflake! I throughly enjoyed my potato skins and fish dinner, tipped extra to endear myself to Rocco, headed out the door avoiding eye contact with face tattoo guys, trying not to offend anyone with my carefree big city attitude, hopped in my car, locked the doors, and with a satisfied feeling and full belly I went on my way into the night. I was going to write a bad review because I got cut off at the bar after having a few to many but I cant, they were just doing their job and I have no bad feelings because of it. They are a fine bunch of folks working there and probably did me a huge favor and acted responsibly. I like the place and always will, food was always pretty fair, I don't have a raging hang over thanks to the little tattoo'ed guys decision making process and where else can you sit down in the back and have a smoke on a 5 gallon bucket next to the dumpster with the chef, its a classic, I will, be going there again sometime in the future. read more

We were looking for a place to stop in with our kids (13 and 15) for dinner while visiting the area. Yelp says okay for kids, but this place really is more of a bar. Waitress was rushing around although we were the only non-bar patrons. She wasn't very welcoming. My husband was going to order nachos but the description didn't list jalapeno peppers. When my husband asked about it she seemed lime it was very unusual to have jalapenos on nachos.. But she said they could add them for "extra." Really? Nachos? No thanks- he got the fish instead. Our food came out quickly. I ordered the smothered chicken which was pretty good but the baked potato was not hot and the veggies were obviously frozen and not seasoned at all. The waitress came back to our table at the end and said she had to leave for an emergency and apologized. Based on the food alone we probably won't return. read more
