I've lived in West End Hartford, for over a year and never made my way to the Spigot until recently. I love it. The patio is awesome and relaxing and the inside is very welcoming and chill. Definitely a great place to hangout and catch up with a friend on a quiet day. The staff are awesome and very in-tune with their guests and it seems like there is a strong group of regulars that frequent the bar. I definitely can see myself becoming more active there and bringing friends along. I got a bit confused at first thinking there would be some simple food options there since it's called Spigot CAFE, but no food unless from a food truck, if one is available. Good to know! read more

No frills bar. We come here for trivia night on Tuesdays. Food is not available except for chips. I've seen people bring in their own food from different places. Have a lot of beer on tap. This past Tuesday I thought I'd stop by the so called spigot cafe and try out their selection of craft beers. Despite my best intentions, I did not feel welcome here. I seated myself at the bar and was forced to overhear the antisemitic conversation of the two gentleman next to me. When I asked if they would talk about something else, they laughed and ignored me. The bartender seemed to know them, as he did nothing to stick up for me and even smiled when I complained. My first visit to The Spigot was during the last game of this year's World Series. The bar was full but not packed. I overheard the bartender telling some people "no talking politics" (couldn't tell if that was a joke but weird), but overall, I really liked the vibe of this pretty quintessential dive bar. There's a good draft beer menu that features local beers, but there are no major surprises on draft. Don't forget to check out the refridgerators to the side, which include a nice variety of bottles and have a bit more of a range, from very accessible to less common in the Hartford area. There's a juke box, darts, and a ton of TVs. There are daily specials on a big board. While the bar is cash only, there is a very obvious ATM inside. I had heard a lot about The Spigot up until this night, and I was happy to be around a chill and excited crowd when the Cubs won. I look forward to coming back. read more

Best way to describe my experience here would be to compare it to a trip to the dentist, where instead of a routine cleaning you're presented with a prostate exam In Lieu. To start, a gargantuan of a bouncer grilled me for an obviously authentic ID before begrudgingly letting me friends and I in. As me and my friends entered the bar, we were greeted with the unfortunate atmosphere of long stares from an aging Caucasian populous. If this crowd was a barbecue, the only seasoning used would be salt and pepper. Bartenders were inattentive and rude, actually getting a drink here was felt like my one accomplishment that night. I highly recommend taking your business literally anywhere else. If I could give zero stars I would. This place blows. read more

I wish I didn't feel so compelled to leave this review but I have a problem with dishonesty and stealing. My friend and I went to what has been a longtime establishment and comfortable dive bar in the area however we were charged $7 a beer for our first round of drinks and the second round was $9 a beer (same order) while the second bartender made glances at others at the bar (presumably friends?) as he did it. We are professional people, always tip well and were truly saddened and insulted by the poor integrity of the staff. Needless to say we understandably won't be back. read more

I'm 42 and have lived in the greater Hartford area for nearly all of my life. I've been to the Spigot (Spee-jsho) as we call it....twice. My very fun friends (and one fellow Yelper) took me out during March Madness for some darts at the Spigot. Actually, I didn't play darts myself but watching was riveting, nah, not really. Here's what I liked about the place: it's pretty clean for a dive bar. I've been to many, dusty, skeevy dive bars but they seem to take pride in this one and give it a little swiffering when needed. Also, they have pitchers of Guinness for $15. A pitcher poured 4 pints (sweet!). Everyone busses their own table of bottles and such AND you can bring in food from outside. Lastly, the jukebox has the fine musical stylings of Richard Cheese. Don't know him? Check him out.....better yet, play one of his tunes on a romping Friday night at the Spigot. I love le Spigot. I came here more often years ago when Wings Over West Hartford was conveniently located across the street. We'd order wings, take 'em into Spig and drink beer and play darts. There's no better combination if you ask me. Even though Wings moved to Park, The Spigot still lets you bring food into the bar, which is pretty rad (as they don't serve up any pub grub). The beer selection is quite good with plenty of local choices (Hooker, Back East porter, Two Roads, etc) but the atmosphere is what I love most. It's a bar. It's unpretentious, casual, comfortable and just about perfect. The ideal spot to meet up with friends over a beer. The finest institution in town. A true shining star in Hartford. A bastion of fine booze. Bartender Jon is funny, sweet, and generally amazing. Such a huge variety of beer, and the beer specials are so cheap. $3 pints! Different specials every weeknight keep things interesting. Cozy, weird divey feel. Mix of local hipsters, insurance nerds, and old dudes. Some bikers. Also, the younger crowd is a little more diverse than at a lot of other area bars. Can get a little crowded on weekends, but never like the entitled townie scene over in the center. Very low-key; you can bring in your own food, I've even seen people bring in board games. At the same time, I've shut this place down with dance parties on Sundays and Tuesdays. Only qualm- jukebox is a little limited. Contains no R. Kelly. No frills, nondescript, "come as you are" local bar that is a welcome relief from the McLadden's crowd in West Hartford. It isn't as divey as other reviews seem to imply, but it is pretty stripped down. They offer a lot of beers on tap and drinks are cheap. They don't have any food, but instead offer potato chips, popcorn, and cashews. Crowd is a mix between local hipsters, old people, and professionals winding down after work. In one night I saw someone wearing a basketball jersey, torn up t-shirt, and a woman wearing a floor length ruby red gown. Weekends can be hit or miss. Sometimes there's a huge crowd and it's a fight for a table, other times the crowd is sparse. The overhead music kind of comes in and out, which makes for some awkward silence at inopportune times. They have a wall of TVs that are usually playing the most important sports games. Parking is sparse in the actual parking lot, but there is usually plenty of parking on Boulevard in the west end of hartford. read more

This is my favorite bar in Hartford, although there are only 3 bars I can handle going to on a Friday or Saturday night. It's really casual and their beer selection is great. You can opt for one of the many thoughtful drafts they have, which you are welcomed to sample to help with your selection. They also offer a number of bottles that you can self-select from the fridges they have near the bar. The bartenders are always helpful and attentive, offering suggestions when you're overwhelmed by the offerings. We were happy to discover they were carrying Laguanitas Sucks the other night, which is SO hard to find. So yeah, they know their beer. The bar offers plenty of seating with tables and chairs surrounded by TVs highlighting whatever sports is on. They also have a three dart boards, which are always in use. The crowds are pleasant enough, mostly locals who are looking to relax with friends and delicious beer. Even when crowded, I usually find a seat somewhere and don't have to wait a million years to utilize the bathroom facilities. Again, my favorite bar in Hartford... since it's the least douchey and actually has beer I want to drink in a pleasant sports-themed environment. read more

OK, that might be off, but I was a California guy by way of Oregon interning at The Hartford Courant during the hottest summer in 100 years and living on a street where 6-foot prostitutes propositioned me every night and a shot-up dead body greeted me the day I was moving. So, to be succinct, I needed a good bar. Or two. The Spigot was one of them. I'd stop in on a day off from the paper, and the bartenders came to understand that all I needed was a cold Sierra Nevada and a Giants game on the TV directly in front of me. They passed down some bar facts: It was once a speakeasy, the Whalers bar and the best place to see 1990s "Sportscenter" anchors throwing back a few. The Spigot is a great dive bar! It is a large red building on the corner of Boulevard and Prospect-you can't miss it! It is a refreshing alternative to the crowded West Hartford Center or downtown Hartford bars. They have beers on tap and plenty of bottles and cans in a few big fridges, so there is something for everyone. They don't serve food (just some snacks), but they have let us bring our own food in. There is a jukebox, some dart boards, and plenty of TVs. FYI: last I heard they do have dart leagues some nights during the week, so I'd look into it before heading there with your heart set on a few games of darts. Also, it's cash only, so make sure you hit the ATM before getting there or utilize their machine. Parking is limited, but that is the only negative thing I can say about this place. If you're a hipster who rolled into West Hartford Center and walked into a bar and then had a panic attack thinking you had somehow teleported to the Jersey Shore, take a deep breath and relax. Get back into your car and drive less than two miles down the road and find the Spigot. You may look at the building and be confused as to whether or not it's a bar - but it is, and a mighty fine one at that. Not only does The Spigot always have some decent drafts but they also have a selection of bottled craft beers that has the potential to blow your mind. It takes up an entire wall and has everything from New England local brews to specialty ales you can't even find in some liquor stores. Everything is fairly priced including their pitchers. It may have a "dive bar" feel, but I wouldn't call it a dive. It's clean and well-maintained. There's two dartboards, a good amount of tables for sitting, and they allow you to bring your own food which is clutch because who isn't excited about a Tupperware of snacks after housing a few beers? In addition to beers they also have a full bar. When I brought my sister from out of town they made her a margarita. She said it was good but I totally judged her for ordering it. Speaking as someone who isn't into the ritz and glitz of West Hartford's bar scene I highly recommend the Spigot. It's closer than Hartford bars and on the WeHa border - it's a much safer section of town. read more

A delightful rathole full of surly old retired firefighter types by day. At night full of beer swilling law students and folks who like to drink fine beer (most of it is in the bottle though). The tap has cold Labatts...certainly ideal for the hockey, which is in addition to many other sports shown on the multitude of tv's. The jukebox runs from the uberchump Timberlake to Isaac Hayes. No food here...but there is a mediocre wing joint across the street if your tastbuds get slightly dulled from the Spigot. read more

This dive bar is pretty stellar. They have darts, lots of tv's playing sports, juke box, huge bottle/can beer selection in 5 big coolers and a lot of beers on tap. Best of all, they have drink specials every day of the week, from $11 import pitchers to $3.50 pints. They also have a fairly good selection of spirits which they are all too happy to give you a very generous pour of for a even more generous price. (3-4 fingers of makers mark neat for $6) Last but not least, this bar is BYOF, bring your own food!!! does it get better than that? They know drinks, and that's what they stick with :) So if you're feeling thirsty and don't have a lot of scratch, check this place out, but be sure to bring cash or ATM cards because they don't take charge. read more

Now when I was 21 I did not look 21. It was a dingy place, with drinks, thats about it. I ended up at The Spigot after reading Yelp posts and was drawn to the large selection of local beer on tap. I walked in past a sea of regulars, of all different ages, and took a seat at the bar. The bartender was really friendly and knowledgeable about the beer. I can tell he's a chatter, but when I pulled out my book, he let me do my thing. Very attentive, good price points, too. This is the definition of a friendly neighborhood bar. This place is the perfect combination of warmth and friendliness. No EDM, no shouldering your way through to the front, and I have never seen people act foolish and start fights.
