Upon going to enter the Pig's Eye Pub on 4/17/2026 at approximately 11:00 p.m., Eric Drouin, who was stationed at the door, indicated to me that I was not allowed to bring my service dog in the establishment. I informed you that because my dog is a service animal, she is permitted under ADA to accompany me in all public places. Charlie Brown, who was also at the door, then asked me the appropriate questions allowed under ADA, and after I responded, allowed me to enter the establishment with my service dog. However, after maybe 30 minutes, Mr. Brown approached me and asked that I leave the premises and return without my service dog. I declined this request since my service dog was not misbehaving in any way, barking incessantly or at all, and not being disruptive to any other patrons. After about another 30 minutes, Mr. Drouin approached me with Mr. Brown and demanded that I leave because according to him my dog was too young to be a service animal and therefore must be in training, and I was being disruptive by talking to patrons who asked me about my dog. I informed Mr. Drouin he was incorrect, that my service dog is fully trained to provide the service for which she is required, and the law does not prohibit me from interacting with patrons who approach me about my dog. He and Mr. Brown still demanded that I leave. I was with a group of five other people who all witnessed all of these exchanges. We all departed the establishment at that time. I have filed an official complaint #758150-TWD with the U.S. Department of Justice, Civil Rights Division for this violation of 28 CFR Sec. 36.302(c). This violation of the Americans with Disabilities Act can result in civil penalties up to $75,000 for a first offense and $150,000 for a subsequent offense. Despite me informing these ignorant and insolent employees of this, they still demanded that I leave. I will also be filing a complaint with the State of Connecticut Commission on Human Rights and Opportunities for this violation of CT General Statutes Sec. 46a-44 & 46a-64, which is a class C misdemeanor, which Mr. Drouin and Mr. Brown will be individually charged. I will also be contacting Mr. James Verano, the listed Principal for Pig's Eye Pub, and Mr. William (Bill) Morrissey, the listed Managing Member regarding these federal and state violations. I will also have my personal attorney contact Reid and Riege, PC, the listed agent for Pig's Eye Pub. Being denied service while accompanied by a service animal is illegal, humiliating, and emotionally draining experience that no one should have to endure. What these imbecilic employees did was not only illegal but morally reprehensible. read more

Wow! I haven't been here in 20 years. I was meeting my boyfriend and his former classmates for an I drank class reunion. As I ascended the staircase that I likely stumbled down after a last call in my 20s, I expected to walk back into the sort of dive bar that I remembered. Not the case! It was so clean and cool looking. And the best part, it was BEAUTIFULLY decorated for the holidays. Fun signs adorned the walls, including the vintage Cool Moose sign from the old bar at the current Half Door location on Sisson Ave. A true Hartford relic for the old folks like me who frequented the bar scene in the 90s. One creative feature that I noticed was a large collage of old credit cards on the ceiling, presumably from those left behind. I can't speak for the food since I'm not sure they serve any, but that's not why people come to the Pig's Eye. The bar service is great with a huge selection of spirits and beers. The vodka, soda, cran that I ordered was nice a fizzy- just how I like my club soda! There's fun rock and pop music playing with pool tables and my favorite- darts! Being a warm night for December, I ventured onto the patio. Surprised again! I wish I snapped a photo, but since my last visit decades ago, the patios upgraded with a partial covered g decorated with a nice wall features of vines and beer signs. And the view of the Capital and the Arch at night is so nice. I definitely wish I took some more photos up here. As I left the bar around 11 PM, the Santa Pub Crawl started to arrive. Just like in my 20s, that's when the night really gets started in the bar. What a Hartford gem this place is. Please stop in for some pool or grog with friends. Check out the holiday decor! And word has it, this is THE spot during the St. Paddy's Day parade. I enjoyed this transport back in time, and definitely won't wait another 20 years to stop in. You can tell how amazing this place will be based on that first smell as you walk in. Absolutely stunning BBQ, excellent sides and enormous portions - it doesn't get much better! They were very nice to a large group and were really helpful with our colleague who had a gluten allergy. The cornbread was so good and they were generous with giving us a few orders of it. The bloody Mary's were very good as well! Quite spicy! I was over the moon with my chicken and ribs combo plate. the reds beans and rice were outstanding - so much flavor and you could tell made with love. I can't even count the number of times that I have been to Pig's Eye in my lifetime. This is one of my favorite bars to go to in downtown Hartford because I love it's location, welcoming atmosphere, outdoor patio in the warmer months, and most of all- their dart boards/ giant jenga/ and pool tables. This place can get LOUD on Friday and Saturday nights. Let's start with convenience, if you are at the XL center for an event such as a Wolf Pack game or concert and are not quite ready to go home yet, this is a great spot to head to afterwards because it is walking distance. It has a decent selection of beers on draft. Every time I have been they have the Seasonal Samuel Adams, which is my favorite. I appreciate the fact that Pig's Eye is a casual place that is a crowed pleaser. It has multiple TVs playing sports games, it has actual games that people can play, and a cozy rooftop (also featuring a TV) overlooking Bushnell Park. Know that many people smoke on this rooftop if you're not a fan of second hand smoke. One could easily start their evening at Pig's Eye Pub and stay here all night because of the different activities and parts of the bar one can experience. read more

Needed a new pub to go to on the st Patrick's Day parade path and luckily my friends and I found Pigs Eye Pub! There was no cover charge which was awesome! Wasn't too packed where you felt claustrophobic and the bar was really easy to get drinks. The bartenders were actually pretty nice considering how busy and crazy it was the day we went! Their drinks are pretty reasonably priced and they also had Irish car bombs- a necessity on parade day! I love how this pub has a rooftop. Though it was packed up there too I can only imagine how fun it would be when it's not as busy. They even had a bar on the rooftop too so you didn't have to go back inside for a drink. The only downside was the bathrooms- as expected girls take forever but it was nice that there were two attendants trying to reduce the time in line. Though.. the best part was the dj! He was playing not only Irish classics but also throwbacks from early 2000s! Everyone was singing along and dancing! Such a chill atmosphere. This is definitely our new pub of choice for the parade! I can't wait to come back here after some dinner at Black Eyed Sallys one day too. read more

$1 beer Wednesdays intrigued me to visit this place. Went with my friend Jay. It was packed with young college crowd. I wasn't comfortable with the big crowd. Jay and myself were able to grab a spot on their terrace, which helped me to stay longer. They had 4 beers for their $ a beer day. You can bring with you one of their glasses if you have visited them on Wednesdays before or your can buy a new one for $9. Music was okay. I wish they limit the crowd to a certain number. This place is a great stop for a beer and a great bar for when the St Patrick's Day parade rolls around every year. After McKinnon's closed/ is in the process of moving, we came across Pigs Eye Pub and it was the perfect place. Very spacious and there is an outdoor rooftop area as well (wonderful for when it is super crowded and you need some air). The music selection was fantastic as well. We were able to easily order beers and drinks even while the bar was packed and the bartenders were friendly enough too. The bathroom system they had going the day of the parade was super efficient. The line for both the men's and women's bathrooms were long, but they had attendants moving the lines along and keeping people in check. Just what was needed for a crazy day! I would love to come back and check this place out again in the spring/ summer on a nice day when hopefully it isn't as crowded! read more

A little too loud for conversation, but with three pool tables and lots of opportunity to dance, there's plenty to communicate without having to speak. Full disclosure, I've only ever been here for happy hour. Because of it's proximity to the office, and other reasons I'll describe below, this place is always a go-to for Friday Happy Hours. The place offers good drink specials. It's $3 draft during HH, which makes for a good deal. Keep in mind that the minimum to use a credit card is $10. You can still use a credit card under $10, but they'll charge a $0.50 fee. Pig's Eye offers free food on Fridays starting at 5 PM (until supplies last). The food is usually pizza, Stromboli, cheese platter, etc. Nothing fancy, but it's enough to keep you going on a Friday, and good enough to keep me coming back after work on Fridays. The vibe is cool. It's a typical dive bar. The business of the place is very variable--I still haven't found an accurate indicator to predict how crowded the place will be. Baffled by the popularity of this bar. I came in on a Wednesday with friends for the Pig's Eye $1 beer night. You buy a cup and then can bring it back any Wednesday for a $1 beer. So if you like beer, this is good for that alone. The service was quick too. The actual bar seemed to be decent at first, but it deteriorated quickly. The place was packed, and the music was so loud that you cannot even scream over it. This could have been resolved by one thing: the patio. The major issue is that they allow smoking on the patio! So so so gross, and the people smoking are gross and disrespectful. The patio was covered in cigarette butts as well. If you don't mind smelling like an ash tray to get a cheap drink, go to Pig's Eye. read more

With darts, pool tables, jenga, loud music and a patio, this place has a rocking atmosphere in my opinion. Loudest place I`ve ever been in my life. I`m only 28 but i guess I`m too old for this. They have 2 dart boards, 2 pool tables, there`s 2 giant size jenga that when someone plays and it hits the floor it sounds, well its just too loud. Oh there`s also a claw machine?! (with t-shirts inside). Its a Full bar only, no food here. Someone in the older reviews said something about a hot dog machine but i don`t remember seeing it anywhere. Well i would say if your gig is to go to the loudest place possible and get drunk like a teenager, not eating for the whole time you stay, here is your place. For me it was just a big headache. Pigs Eye for me, is my favorite bar downtown. I understand that it is not high-brow or a club scene type of place. It is a melting pot of people of all different types. They always have a good selection of local brews. The outside patio has definitely been improved upon over the years. Pig's Eye is a legendary place on St. Patty's Day, let me tell you. In years past, they used to have their theme of "Beer & Bacon", as of the last 3-4 years or so they switched over the apple cider donuts from Faddy's (which are equally as delicious). An all around cool place to grab a beer, no matter the day or occasion. If you haven't been a Friday Happy Hour there, then you really should check it out. They will either do a spread of pizza or Chinese food, with a platter of cheese and crackers. Not to mention, its FREE! Its the end of the week and you just want to start it off with a bang, then a trip to Pig's Eye is a good choice. Its not something that I do frequently, but there's nothing wrong with going a couple times a year for a free feast accompanied by good beer. The environment is very laid back, a place where you can go with a group of friends and simply hang. Dollar beer night is a completely different type of environment and attracts a different type of crowd than it does any other day of the week. I think its a great deal, you purchase your cup for $8 (that you keep and bring back every week) and receive $1 23 oz beer refills from there on out. There are only three different beers they will allow you fill your cup with for $1, but they aren't bad options either. The standard is bud-lite, Sam Adam's seasonal (whatever they have on draft at that current time), and Long Trail. It tends to get crowded rather quickly, so try to get there between 8 and 9pm to avoid the line. If you want to get a good buzz on for cheap, then Wednesday nights are for you. read more

This is a great place if you want good, cheap beer, Their nightly specials make me want to cheer. It's a little dingy, but hey, it's a dive. Everytime that I come here I feel so alive. Great beers on tap. Great prices for those beers. Every time I go to an event at the XL Center I always stop here beforehand (and sometimes afterwards). It's probably not somewhere you want to bring a date since the bathrooms are worn down, it's kind of loud, and it smells like beer. Typical dive bar with no real food options (aside from questionable hotdogs and sausages), Pig's Eye Pub is a great place to grab drinks and get away from the college aged crowd at other downtown locations. Weekdays gather a crowd of mixed age patrons, most from nearby businesses and some locals. There are dart boards, $1 pool tables, and a large Jenga set to entertain everyone. There is a special on Wednesday where you can buy a large Pig's Eye branded cup for $9 and get $1 refills on every Wednesday. Pretty good investment if you work/live in the area and plan on stopping by often. Weeknights tend to pull in the early 20s crowd, but the place retains a calmer atmosphere (relative to other Hartford bars). The loud volume of the DJ's music makes it hard to keep a conversation and creates a strange atmosphere where no one is dancing and no one can hear each other speaking. I think this is the best Friday happy hour in the city. The Pig's Eye is a dive bar, but it is great. Every night of the week they have drink specials. I usually end up here for Friday Happy hours. Every beer on tap (25 or so) are $3, including the specialty goblets. The selection is full of craft beers and local brews along with large corporate brews. Friday also has free food, wings, mozzarella sticks, and pizza. The pizza is not made by Pigs Eye, and is not very good, but it is free. The beer selection is what makes this place; for $12 (on Friday) you could try 4 different fantastic beers. The place is never very crowded and they even have an outdoor rooftop deck overlooking the state capital. Inside it is fairly dark, but there are a number of TVs. There are also 4 pool tables ($1/game) that are in decent shape. You can also throw darts. They have three cork boards and keep the darts behind the bar. No plastic video boards, just pieces of chalk, blackboard and cork. read more
