Stopped in here before attending a Yelp Elite event because Hubby and I love the vibe of local bars. This bar was awesome. The bar wrapped around the whole place. The vibe was great. Very small hometown feel. Everyone seemed to know each other and was talking to each other across the bar. Each person that would walk in, was greeted by the locals and bartender. Super refreshing to see. The bartender was super sweet and although she was busy, she was very quick to serve us. We only were able to stop in for a drink but based on the other reviews, seems we should come back to try some food! Excited to come back to do so. read more

The old town is one of the only bars i will probably ever give 5 stars. this place feels like home. the bar is all old dark wood filled with carvings of all the generations of the town. ample seating is available always. bathrooms are clean. decent draft for a dicey bar. pool tables are free on mondays! and a new pizza place is available monday through friday that is great. service is incredible, bartenders are kind and personable always. this is the best spot in our area and i'll grateful to have been introduced to it read more

We stopped in to escape the heat and take a break during the Porch Festival in town. It's what you'd expect looking at it from the outside. No frills, dark, a neighborhood bar. It has a very large bar, everyone was nice, good service. I was surpised at the cost of two beers, perhaps it was because of the event Main Street event? This review is for Breakfast. They have breakfast and lunch 6 days each week. There is also a bar on the other side of the building that has bar hours and is your typical watering hole. We had breakfast there this past Sunday. The food was great. Coffee was free! All of the breakfast food was made fresh. My waffles had home made batter. The bacon was cooked perfectly. They provide a nice little garnish of oranges & strawberries. You can dine outside on the patio or inside as well. Outside they allow dogs. They seems to have a lot of omelette specials, which we did not order so cannot comment on their omelettes. In short, we will definitely be back again! read more

We've patronized the bar numerous times with local friends, but this was my first time eating breakfast next door, and it's hard to find breakfast spots that leave a great memory. This is one. The crab cake breakfast with eggs was exceptional. I've paid more for a less enticing crab cake at dinner. It was clean, large, fresh and reasonably priced. We were in on 12/12/22 between 330-540 and we were treated like absolute GARBAGE by the bartender. We asked her to keep our tabs separate, she didn't know what beers were on tap when we ordered them, continuously rolled her eyes whenever we'd request another beverage. When my boyfriend asked for an itemized receipt she rudely said we don't do that it's $50. On top of that, when our friend paid his tab, she threw the card at him and accused us of being too drunk to understand the concept. VERY poor service and we frequent this spot often for a game of pool....such a shame. Will not be returning until she's gone. read more

Definitely will not be returning. There were only 2 waitresses "working" today, one of which kept going outside and talking to the person sitting out there. The other waitress seated us and then we waited 15 minutes before even asking if we wanted coffee. Waited a bit more and finally got menus. Waited a bit more and she finally took my order, but when my husband went to order, he was told they were out of the corned beef hash. Would have been nice to tell us "these are the specials, but we are out of this." I placed my order but since he didn't want anything then, I paid for our coffees and we left. The bartenders are always so friendly and helpful and I love that they have a jukebox where you can pick what you want to hear. You need to take your horse down to the old town cafe. Perhaps, riding until you can't no more... And by that, I mean eating till you can't eat no more. The food here is great! They have unique and creative omelets. Today I had a shrimp and broccoli omelet. They even have a lobster omelet and all for only $10. Also real maple syrups for those true pancake aficionados. I was in shock when I gave Linda my ID, and she denied service because she stated "my friends and I's ID looked fishy." I did not live on this earth for 21 years just to be denied service, but I was wondering why she kept looking at it for a long period of time because it takes a second to run it under a black light to see the CT government issued stamp or do the math and on top of that my friend had asked what kind of drinks she'd be comfortable making, and said it was a stupid question! It was my first time here and if my friend did not asked, I would have but that's not how you treat someone especially a potential customer, but all is well because there are plenty of other bars around that provide exceptional service. How am I, a transplant from NY / PA, the first person to pen a review of the Old Town Café? From what I hear from the colorful local crowd, this place is possibly as old the Old Wethersfield itself (it isn't) and you would figure someone would have written up this place by now. The actual obvious answer to this question is that Old Town doesn't really cater to the crowd one would associate with Yelp (or the internets in general). What you have here is a good, old fashioned dive townie bar. Some strategically placed TVs, a pool table, no food that I'm aware of with the exception of some happy hour food that was made next door I believe (There is a...restaurant (?)...next door that is not open to the public, but makes food for special occasions (happy hours, football) at the bar)...and a nicely stocked Jukebox. I'll shoot you straight and tell you that the place isn't much to look at unless you like the dive bar vibe. Also, the crowd is on the older side, the blue collar side (Fire station right next door), and the local side. That being said, I've had some of the more colorful discussions that I've had and the you will always strike up an interesting conversation if you are looking to talk (probably even if you aren't looking for a conversation actually). I've actually taken out friends and neighbors to other, more well known places, and ended up here having a much better time. Obviously you have to be looking for a very specific experience to end up here, but if dive drinking is your game...Old Town may be your place... read more

They are now open for breakfast! We went for the first time today. Breakfast is served in the little restaurant section next to the bar. They serve breakfast from 6 AM until 11:30 AM. From 11:30AM and on, there is a lunch and dinner menu. My husband and I tried out breakfast there this morning with one of our kids. There are probably 10 4-top tables with chairs and plenty of highchairs! I tried the pancakes. The pancakes were pretty standard and were served with a side of home fries. The pancakes taste like pancakes and not like bacon grease which is a definite plus! The home fries were tiny chunks of potatoes that tasted pretty close to french fries. They had little bits of peppers and onions cut up in them as well. My husband had two eggs, right toast, and home fries. We both had coffee. The bill came to $12! About half of the tables were full this morning. Most of the crowd appeared to be the 60 and over crowd. However, everyone was very friendly and excited about this new venture! Very unusual omelets! And delicious too! I had lobster and Brie. The chef used a Brie that had garlic and herbs and it was fantastic. Lots of lobster meat. Potatoes were crispy. I love this place! We have been going for breakfast for the last year and it is my favorite. The omelettes are great, the specials are tasty and it is so inexpensive considering the quality and quantity of the meals. We went for lunch today. The specials were mostly seafood, fresh and imaginative with lovely sautéed spinach or broccoli. Yes, this is not a fancy restaurant, but the owner/chef cares about the food he serves and it shows. It is also not a fast service venue, I think there is only one person in the kitchen and sometimes it requires you to sit back, anticipate, and enjoy. So happy to have this here in town. My friend and I ate there 3/25/15. The palace is freshly painted and has a real nice atmosphere. The menu was simple with great comfort food choices. I had the chicken parmesan with spaghetti and a house salad. Good sized portions and reasonably priced. The salad crisp and was served with garlic bread. To wash it down I had a tan beer. Wonderful! I couldn't finish the dish so I took it home. The owner who is the chef warmly greeted us and served us as well. He was very friendly. The place is tastefully decorated. My friend had roast beef with mashed potatoes and vegetables. He gave me a sample. It was also very good. Everything is freshly prepared.
