A small group of us wanted to give this place a try. Let me start with the positives. The bartender was attentive, friendly, and polite, and our food was served quickly. I really liked my margarita and the interestingly colored salsa. The atmosphere is great. I know that this space was previously an American-type restaurant, they did a nice job with the décor that is still being used. Not much of a Mexican vibe. Now for the negatives. The entrance was confusing--there was no real sign, or at least none that I noticed. My husband said the name was written on a piece of paper. Weird, but okay. The outdoor seating area was also seemed to be under construction, so maybe that will improve the overall experience once it's completed. Again, weird. Unfortunately, the food was mediocre at best and quite expensive for what you get. There were a couple of pescatarian options, but nothing that really jumped out at me. Overall, I got the impression that this may be more of an after-hours hangout for locals than a place focused on food. If they finish the outdoor area and make a few improvements, I'd be willing to give it another try, but for now, I'm just not sure about this place. read more

EDIT: After the defensive response and false accusations from the owner on Google, I'm lowering my 3 star review to 1 star. I will not stand for an attack on my reputation. While I do have a social media following, I came in like anyone else as a paying customer. The restaurant had no idea that I was coming in, and this was as honest as it gets. I would have previously suggested this spot as a decent meal before a show at The Bushnell, but with an attitude like that, I will never recommend this spot. The owner seems very fixated on the menu prices that I called out (and I'm not the first to have mentioned it if you read other reviews), and while I can understand he may have his own justifications for the prices, we have gone to plenty of Mexican restaurants with better quality at a better price. We're not averse to paying for good quality, but unfortunately this didn't meet the mark for us, and I won't be bullied out of deleting my review. I stand on what I said and will always provide honest reviews. Original: My husband and I stopped in Sol Y Luna for Taco Tuesday. Really cool ambiance with local contemporary art for sale. The menu had some solid choices, though it was much more expensive than we were expecting. I'm not usually one to get hung up on prices, but 3 carne asada tacos were $29 and my husband's fajitas were $55!! For the price point I would have hoped for better quality. The fajitas didn't even come out sizzling, and we both thought our steak was gristly. The guac needed more salt (and I never add salt to anything), and the queso was very thin and seemed like melted down American cheese. The drinks were good, and the complimentary salsa was our favorite part of the meal. I do have to commend the service. Our waitress was friendly and attentive, and the food arrived quickly from the kitchen. We went to Sully Luna and had a great time. Service is very attentive and the food is delicious. The ambience is a fun twist to a Mexican style restaurant along with a margarita bar. We Came to the bar here for a classic margarita. It was so refreshing. We then sat down to eat and enjoyed Chips with salsa. Then we moved on to Empanadas - (chicken), Tacos - Chicken, veggie, carnitas, and steak and Enchiladas (chicken) All the food that we tried tasted amazing . Great flavor and the right temperature. The staff was super accommodating for all of our needs. We also enjoyed playing Mexican bingo and then grabbed some dessert at the bar. We had the Mini churros. Very sweet but good! Found this new-ish spot as it's close to my office and headed over with a group of coworkers one afternoon. It took us a few minutes to determine if they were open- as we walked in to a ghost town. We found the bartender downstairs who assured us it was. We ordered a round of drinks (most deemed "ok") and some apps. We were disappointed to hear that they were out of any type of guac. We ordered queso and found they came in a tiny bowl, not a large shareable portion. Finally, we ordered a couple of the three taco platters (from the happy hour menu) and were disappointed that they only came with two each. When we inquired after, they blamed it on the cook. We decided to head over to another venue for dinner, as Sol y Luna just missed that day. Hopefully they can get themself together a little bit more, as it seems they have the potential. read more

Wow! Discovered this new-ish Mexican gem tonight- now in the space formerly occupied by Republic at the Linden. A great addition to the Hartford foodie scene! Terrific cocktails then we tried the corn ejote, salsa/chips, plantains and cauliflower with mole sauce. Sad we were too stuffed to try the vast taco offerings. Everything was fantastic! Fresh and flavorful and the server brought out more to sample (on the house!). The bar área has a fun vibe and the bartender could not have been more attentive and friendly. Food is alright service is terrible. I ordered Queso which was served cold. I asked for it to be heated up so I can easily eat chips with it. I asked to put it in the microwave to heat it he brought me backa bowl of cream and never heated the queso and rudely said this is how you want it. No I wanted my queso not cold and solidified. I was literally fine with just throwing it in a microwave but instead they brought me some queso imitation that was basically liquid cream. From the moment you walk in, you're greeted with a wonderful spot. It is largely unchanged from its former life as the Republic, but it is a great venue nonetheless. The hostess counter sits next to a balcony overlooking the bar area down below. There's actually a bridge over the bar, connecting the two house of the dining room rooms up above. We walk down the stairs and sat at the bar. I started off with Flame & Flor. Excellent drink, but it was a little strong. Something I don't usually complain about :) We ordered the guacamole, the Aji tuna ceviche, taco de barria, and the Quesa de Philly. I would take on a silverback gorilla by myself to taste these again. The guacamole may be the best I've ever had. The bartender was awesome and told this his stories. I guess you'll have to go to hear them. All in all, I would highly recommend. While waiting to go to a musical at the Bushnall, we found this little gem right down the street. Definitely what I would call "high end" Mexican food. They didn't have any sangria that my girlfriend wanted on the menu, but the eager waiter/bartender was excited to make a glass for her. When it came, she was thrilled. Delicious! We both ordered the carne asada tacos and I have never been served tacos like this in my life. A cutting board came first with a slab of carne, along with the rice and chunky picante. Then the freshly made corn tortillas came, with a mention that if we wanted more, just ask. The portions were huge and the steaks cooked to perfection. Staff was so nice and accommodating.
