For my daughters birthday, she wanted donuts. I looked on Yelp to find the best rated donuts and Spiga came up. I am happy that I read the reviews and not just write them. We got an assortment and everyone loved them. Not one complaint. I since have been back and ordered the French cruller and old fashioned. The cruller was glazed perfectly and fried beautifully. Airy and moist with a great crunch. The old fashioned was also fried perfectly. A little crunch on the donut with a soft, great tasting interior. But unfortunately the doors aren't "doubled" (don't know how else to describe them). Anytime someone came in or left, the whole place will be subject to a cold breeze. Was distracting. My usual concern with layout (tight tables) is a slight concern, but I suspect even though the tables are too close together it won't be a big deal that much because most people don't loiter. Value: I'd give this 5 stars too, because the prices seem to be great. But they have this annoying credit card minimum rule. I really hate that, (but that may be just me). The minimum is absurdly high too $10, so even though the prices are great, you're forced to buy more to get to the minimum. One of my favorite bakeries on the island. They have amazing gourmet donuts! As far as pastries go, i have two favorites. One is a pistachio bar, that has layers of pistachio cream and cannoli cream. I just had the worst experience at Spiga Bellmore. I called 3 times to make sure they were baking flourless chocolate cakes for Passover. After lots of holding I was assured that they were but had to come for it on Sunday as they weren't taking orders. I show up Sunday and they all look at me as if I'm nuts. The icing was thick white chocolate, I really love white chocolate so I was a big fan. And the essence of the rum. This hit it out of the ball park. +The rainbow cookie pastry. I am a sucker for ANYTHING rainbow cookie related, and this was was really tasty (white cream in the center) and absolutely beautiful. If we stopped here, you'd get a 5/5 out of me. The service is honestly horrible, you can tell kids work here considering every time you call to ask questions they have to put you on hold and leave you on hold multiple times for long periods of time. So I called to place an order for 2 pizzas for my family at 1145 on Monday morning. He says "I don't think it's brick oven"...I said "oh ok, can you find out, are you in the store?"....his response, "uh ok whatever"...I said "oh ok thank you forget about the pizza" It's a shame I didn't get to order and try the pizza because I am the biggest fan of a good pizza. Lived in Merrick for 5 years and heard about Spiga but have never been. I decided to take a chance and have them bake and create my daughters 5 year old custom cake and boy did they not disappoint. They did such a great job my daughter was super happy. Not only did the cake look great, it tasted awesome! It was moist and delicious. Worst Bakery around....., I went a few days before Thanksgiving to order prune danishes for my 86 yr old Mother in SC. They told me I need to give more advance notice....... Understood! I decided to try again for Christmas and gave them a month notice this time figuring that'd be sufficient. The staff is totally untrained, the baker didn't seem to care whatsoever. I ordered a cake for a birthday, I had purchased the same cake several months ago so I knew the size of it. When I picked it up, I saw they had several of the same cake on the shelf, so again I knew the size of it. The bakery never informed me that the cake came in 2 sizes, I had never seen a tiny cake such as this one on their shelf. The cake was boxed up and ready to go when I got there, and I had already paid for it. When I got home and opened the box I couldn't believe the size of it! They are big on serving small single portion desserts along with the more traditional cakes, pies, and cookies. My friend and I stopped by for donuts, I got an assortment, Oreo, white rum chocolate, cannoli, Nutella, banana Nutella, and Cinnabon. My favorite of these was the white rum chocolate. The Oreo was dry, the cannolis filling was lackluster and didn't really taste all that much like cannoli cream, the Nutella was great, and the banana Nutella had obviously a strong banana flavor that was overpowering the Nutella. The Cinnabon just had pieces of cinnamon bread on top of the donut with cinnamon glaze but was really nothing special. I cannot judge this bakery on their donuts alone, but their donuts can be hit or miss. The cakes and other pastries looked great in the showcase. There is a $10 card minimum and the parking lot is an average size. read more

Ha where do I start? Long story short: I was ordering a smash cake for my daughters 1st birthday photoshoot this Tuesday. My husband went a few weeks ago and showed a woman at the counter a photo of exactly what we wanted: a small cake with pastel icing. They quoted us $35 for the cake and my husband said "wow, last quote we got was $65, when should we order it by?" They told him give a few days notice. Last night I email them with the photo and a brief description with the quote we were given and get an email from Maila saying it's much more expensive but come in tomorrow to order it. So my husband calls the bakery last night and there apparently is no Maila and they reassured us the cakes are $35. I go today to place it and they asked for $85!!!! For a cake no one is eating. Every other bakery we had gone to needed 1-2 weeks in advance leaving us with slim to no options. When we explain the situation the manager and baker was anything but accommodating. we left and I wrote a review on google about my experience only to be emailed and harassed for the last couple of hours.
