The ambiance is lacking so it's not a place to take customers or your sweetheart but if what you want is good and plentiful food, this is a good place to visit. They do allow one to eat in but really, so one can eat their takeout at the restaurant.!Many truckers make this their regular stop. We stopped by this place on the way headed east toward Tennessee and the food was so delicious that we talked about at the whole two weeks of our trip and we timed it to make sure we could stop for lunch on the way back through heading back to Vegas. The menu is very clear and concise. Very easy to order. Fantastic food. And they were very conscientious about the spice level for us. Zero ambience here. It's a truck-stop takeout place -- it has eat-in tables but they don't see much use. Was looking forward to the buffet, but when we got there it was roped off and closed. Fergoodnessakes, we had Indian food at 8AM in Milan, NM, by a truck stop. Don't judge, haha....my 13-yr old could mainline Tikka Masala 24/7. Honestly, we had to check out the 84th place on 'The of Best Yelp' places in the country for 2019. I love the back story on how this place opened up. And I thank Yelp for leading me to it. First off, the food was delicious. But just about every Indian joint we've gone to has been as good to me and my family. None of their cooking separated them from many places we've been to on our travels. Portions were robust, were priced very affordable, with plenty of leftovers for the road, which we enjoyed. Here it comes... I couldn't help but think that we were invaders. Previous Yelpers spoke of friendliness from the family, but it seemed/felt demonstratively evident that if you weren't a sub-continent truck driver--you were an afterthought. Our host/server/etc (guessing a son/nephew?) was okay, but he just seemed annoyed that we showed up as early as we did. Same with the older folks who we saw with dour, sour faces (owners?). And trust me, language barrier was not an issue. Bottom line, the food was great. But having the place filled with patrons as silent as a tundra's winter night, suspiciously staring at us as we ate...was not great. As a retired military family, we've eaten all over the world, and have been welcomed by many different levels of proprietors. We don't have a problem walking in to any damned restaurant on the planet. We are happy people, and we act this way wherever we go. A smile and a friendly face from restaurant hosts makes us feel comfortable. And putting some freekin' ambient music on might have made me add another star. You have a TV there. Put on the news...a rerun of Family Matters...Bollywood...anything! Very simple restaurant, in back of truck stop, that has delicious Indian Punjab food. As soon as I stepped into the door the aroma of curry, exotic spices hit my olfactory senses. I was set up for a gastronomic treat. Indian music videos playing was amusing. Service was quick. Being a place that caters to on the go truckers, the food was all presented in to go containers. As we were eating in, we were given plates and plastic ware. I did not mind as the food was excellent. We had butter chicken, tikka masala, basmati rice, garlic naan. We were slightly skeptical when we read reviews touting a restaurant in tiny Milan, NM as the best in the state for Indian. I mean Albuquerque is a foodie city, and a tourism hot-spot, you'd think the city would have the best of any category. Then we remembered that Milan, NM is where we had the best omelettes ever, so we got in the high-efficiency vehicle and made the pilgrimage. As we drove between the fleet of tractor-trailer rigs headed to and through the local travel centers in Milan, we caught sight of the completely unassuming restaurant. It rather looks like a converted service station from the outside, but the twenty rigs parked in the rear lot as well as the giant lanes for entry and exit speak to the supreme popularity of this establishment with the long-haul driving community. We browsed the menu before arriving and I went in with a list. Very glad I did, because the entryway/ordering/pickup table was PACKED. I had to wait outside for a good 7 minutes before there was enough clear space to enter. Three of the seven dishes on my list weren't possible due to lack of supply in the tiny town, but the very knowledgeable clerk managing the ordering station already knew that and was able to immediately guide me to the available options. About 15 minutes after I ordered, everything was packed and ready to be picked up. The aromas were so tantalizing that we scrapped the next part of the plan, which was to zip over to the NM welcome center to spread out on a picnic table. Instead we ripped open our Butter Chicken, Saag Paneer, Chile Paneer, and Kashmiri Raita right there in the car. I immediately agreed with the reviews that called Spicy Bite's Butter Chicken the best. Truly, it outdid my rosy memories of sit-down meals of the same dish in London and New York. The Saag Paneer was the Platonic ideal of spinach and cheese, all flavors blended together in perfect ratio with no aromatic spice overriding any other. We very likely could have eaten our way through four more portions and not been tired of the dish. Neither of us had tried anything quite like the Kashmiri Raita before. We would likely have never ordered it had we known about the heavy-handed use of cilantro in the dish, but as much as we dislike cilantro, the dish was still incredibly good!That's the real mark of culinary genius, getting the diner to love an ingredient they despise simply because the dish is so good.. We had never tried anything like the Chile Paneer either. That's a specialty of Spicy Bite alone as far as we can tell. It's hard to accurately describe, but imagine all the grilled onions and peppers of an amazing fajita, but replace whatever you were going to imagine for protein with a light, salty, spongy cheese, also grilled to perfection. Mix that all together with a light, sweet & sour chile sauce, hot enough to make native New Mexicans sweat, and you have Spicy Bite's Chile Paneer. Of course in all the amazement of the other dishes I nearly forgot to mention the garlic naan, that is worth the drive to Milan all on its own. If you have any reason to be on I-40 west of Albuquerque between 0730 and 2200 any day of the week, do your self the favor of a meal at Spicy Bite. Yep. I couldn't believe it. From the outside appearance and location, you wouldn't think. But damn. The garlic naan was THE best garlic naan I've ever had in my LIFE. It was soooo perfectly light and puffy and crisp, and of course garlicky. I devoured most of it plain without any sauce because it was so good plain I didn't want to take away from it. We had the dinner buffet for $11.95 each. As far as the buffet items, some items could've been hotter or fresher, but given the area and the price, I think they did pretty damn well. A few items looked especially dry or like they'd been sitting there a while and we just avoided those, problem solved. I had the spinach, chicken curry, butter chicken, beef meatballs, chicken tandoori, plain rice, and vegetable biryani. The chicken was tender, and the sauces had great spice and flavor. Our server was polite but not overbearing, just left us alone to enjoy our food, checked on us once. Which was perfect for us. ONE thing, however, was the water. The water tasted gross, not sure what was wrong with it, but if you normally just drink the free water like me I highly suggest you order a drink. We had the garlic naan, chicken tikka masala and golden daal. It's expensive--$15-$19 per entree. They kindly let us "dine in" out of plastic to-go tubs, with plastic cutlery off styrofoam plates. WARNING: You will NOT find ...welcoming atmosphere, attentive service, clean bathrooms or tables. Again, the food is that good. Apparently, you can lack all the other niceties of a customary restaurant experience and succeed if you can cook well in Milan, NM. read more

This was totally unexpected and amazing. Basically an Indian restaurant as good as any place in London, New York, San Francisco, located at a truck stop in rural New Mexico off the Interstate 40. During Covid-19 it's take-out only. Portions are generous (I'd almost take 5% less in each container to make it easier to open in the car), good range of menu items (including some really great naan). I ordered a lamb curry and a chicken dish (I forget which one) and each was superb. Great mango lassi too. (I think I'd seen a news story about the growing number of Indian truck drivers, so it does make sense to have restaurants like this -- a great benefit for anyone driving along the Interstate...) read more

We had been driving along time and needed dinner. This came up on yelp, so we stopped in. Not much on the outside, but delicious food, friendly service and cleanliness inside. We ordered 4 dishes (two chicken ones, sagg paneer and a veggie dish), garlic nann and samosas. Everything came out fresh and yummy. Good size portions, since theres only 2 of us, we had A LOT left over to go. Rice came with both entrees. People were enjoying the buffet. Fantastic! I would (almost) drive three hours off my route to get this! The fish pakoras were plump and tasty. The saag paneer was phenomenal - I like the careful use of onions at Spicy Bite. Not sure about the negative reviews - we were treated so well! Met one of the brother owners and gave us the back story. We found it as we were approaching the exit, so glad we did. In a sea of fast junky and greasy food - this is so welcome! Like a home cooked meal. :) We had the buffet. I loved the korma of peas and carrots - just right and spicy. The garlic Naan was wonderful (as stated another reviewer). Learned about a new sport that was on the TVs (bit loud), a cross between rugby and wrestling. So fun.
