I was nervous when we walked over as husband woke me up and said let's go eat! We walked in and it's a blast from the past but no one was here. I didn't have time to read any reviews... I am blown away by the food here. It's fresh and tasty and the cook knows how to cook. Very good experience and it didn't take long after we arrived for people to start showing up. If you're parked in the Petro parking lot I would suggest you eat here. I had the salmon and it was cooked perfectly. Husband had the bacon burger and enjoyed it. Great selection of herbal teas. On the road and it's time for lunch. Looked at what was on list of possibilities, no more sandwiches, and we've eaten Mexican food about 3 times in the past few days. Gabby's had really good reviews, and was cooking homestyle cooking. You know me, I'm also a sucker for wanting to give non chain restaurants a try. Online directions (a link from their restaurant listing) made it easy to get there. Smiling lady greeted as we entered and confirmed 2 for lunch; brought us right to a table (booth'ish). Another person took our drink order, then the original person took our orders ... after helping me between my two choices. Dinner salad was fresh, and she kept my glass of water topped off (you know I'm a heavy water drinker). My dining partner greatly surprised me by ordering a chicken fried steak, mashed potatoes and of course corn. I ordered the salisbury steak, green beans and fried sweet potatoes. During this time a nearby group's food being served at a nearby table. Thank goodness i didn't order the hamburger, it was H-U-G-E mountainous along with a large helped of French fried potatoes, and the burritos easily each covered a dinner plate. It never crossed my mind to wonder what our plated up food would look like. Huh. Not much longer and our food was brought to the table. Good sized servings, the Salisbury steak was homemade, cooked medium and was juicy. Sitting atop were sauced onions and mushrooms, with were really good. The julienne green beans and fried sweet potatoes were really good too. I couldn't eat it all, I tried though. My dining partner said he also enjoyed his food. When i asked what he'd change if he could, he said the mashed potatoes were a bland and could use a "kick" of something; maybe roasted garlic, sautéed leeks or green onions. Service was excellent. Bathrooms were clean. Easy to maneuver parking. Friendly people running the place. Reasonable prices. Paid the bill, then noticed they closed the tab without us putting a tip - they didn't take it for granted there would be a tip? Put the tip on the table. Nice. We'd highly recommend Gaby's "WOW" cafe. read more

When I rolled into the truck stop across the street, I could smell the exhaust from the grill fans. It smelled like perfectly cooked burgers. I walked across, sat at the counter, and perused the menu. I chose the ribeye philly cheese steak with no peppers. The sandwich comes with chips, or there are small upcharges for fries and such. The sandwich comes on a 7" hoagie roll, with grilled onions and thick cut mushrooms (no bell peppers on mine) and swiss cheese. The fries were pretty good, too. I was the only customer while I was there. The service was good, and when Hannah wasn't checking on me, she was clean and wiping down all the prep surfaces. Well done! I should have known I was not in for a pleasant experience when I walked into the diner and was the only customer! I've been there for lunch before and enjoyed the hamburger I had approximately a year ago. There aren't many options in Milan, NM and there's one less now. I ordered a sirloin steak, baked potato and green beans. It came with either a salad or a soup. I elected the salad. When the salad was served, I asked the waitress if it looked fresh and her reply was no. I asked if she could not find a fresh salad to bring me a cup of soup. The green chili beef soup was very good! The green beans were plentiful and they were decent. The baked potato was okay. The sirloin did not have much taste but was cooked as requested. I actually had to ask for A1 sauce which for those who know me, find this inconceivable! Needless to say, this was not the best dining experience. A chef and possibly the owner did not appear happy and walked past my table and didn't greet or made me feel welcomed. The place is clean but the ambiance is unremarkable but has great potential to be better. It needs to start with caring, greater engagement with customers and talking pride with the dishes they serve. read more

We needed a place to stop for refreshments and then decided to eat here since the place looked super cool! This is a no frills, nostalgic diner with superb service. Our kiddos were fussy from being in the car so our waitress came over to give us crackers and snacks while we waited for food. They were super attentive and friendly to us as a family, it was such a refreshing stop. I would recommend the fried chicken basket and chocolate malt shake. I hadn't been back to this restaurant since the previous owners that owned it as "Wow Diner" and was curious to see how and what the new place had become! I like that they kept the original diner theme and ambiance as the original restaurant. The food is classic diner eating that you'd expect. But I was highly impressed with the flavor the food provided. My salmon had the perfect searedness from the pan with its rich spices and tang from the lemon, the zucchini had a similar complimentary taste of tang and seasonings, and the lime rice paired well with the dish. My husband also enjoyed his burger but watch out that jalapeño has a quick! We were stuffed by the time we left, we had no room for dessert but definitely want to come back for some when we get the chance! They serve yummy looking pies and cheesecake! The service was very friendly and attentive. The restaurant itself was kept cleanly. I'm looking forward to coming back to try more of the menu! read more

This diner was a great find in rural New Mexico. It is a family owned business with friendly and attentive service. It has great ambience with a pressed tin ceiling, chrome finishes and checkered floor. We ordered smash burgers that were cooked perfectly with a side of homemade chips. We shared a buddy basket with a side of green chile gravy. It had just the right amount of heat and not overly spicy for the more faint hearted in our group. We went to this diner because the menu looked interesting, we were not disappointed. My wife ordered the loaded fries with brisket. She was very impressed by the flavor and amount. The only thing she said could have been better is the fries could have been crispier. Since I am a burger guy, I ordered the mushroom smash burger. This was one of the top 5 burgers I have ever had. The meat was cooked perfectly, the lettuce and tomato were crisp and the bun was toasted exactly as it should be. Gabby's should be on everyone's list.
