Came back for lunch on another trip and was happy I stopped. Our server recommended the chile relleno and the tamales, but we wanted to try a variety of items, so we added the combo plate. In retrospect, we should have listened to her, because the tamales and the relleno were our favorites! The tamales were so fluffy and packed with meat, and the relleno was perfect. The taco was good, but nothing special. The enchiladas were good. The chimichanga was a little too doughy for me. Overall, a good value, good service, good food, and worth a stop. read more

I didn't care too much for the salsa. I found myself putting a lot of salt to drown the sweetness. I was hoping to order something big to have leftovers for the week. I ordered the combo plate and substituted a relleno for the chimichanga. I got half green and half red salsa on the relleno. I had been craving a relleno for weeks and was hoping it was going to be good. The taco shells are not fried. They are headed in the grill until they get crispy, which I like because that's how I do it at home. I didn't care for the flavor of the ground beef but overall it was ok. The enchilada and relleno both came with the bandera sauce (I think that's what it was called) mix of red and green sauce. I was hoping it was only going to be in the relleno . I didn't care for either sauce and tried to eat around it. The green sauce was a bit too spicy which drowned the flavor of everything else. I didn't try the beans or a sopapilla. Now, the rice. I'm not sure what to think. It looked like a Chef Boyardee canned pasta product and tasted like pasta sauce. I could not eat it. We all felt the same about the rice and the green sauce. A fun find while waiting to replace a tire shredded by the road to Chaco Canyon, this family owned business was right across the street, the parking lot full of local vehicles. I was served two of my favorite things- fresh brewed iced tea with grauple ice and hash brown potatoes. Not just any potatoes,delicious sliced potatoes with melted cheese smothered in green chile sauce. Service was fast and servers friendly. The large restaurant was decorated a brght traditional southwest with red chiles. Tables are well spaced, with curved low walls breaking up the space, vaguely kiva-like. I periodically go to Grants to help an animal rescue. Second time I have been to this restaurant. What I like is its local and has what I would call home made style food. We had breakfast/brunch? served til 11am. The prices are great as is the food. The plain breakfast burrito which is served in aluminum wrap is $5.00, without meat 4.50. I added a sopapilla (big ones) for .50. Took half of both home for dinner. Also got when paid a cherry turnover and a cinnamon roll which I think each were around $3. Yum. All together was about $14. I mean you cant pay that at a fast food these days. Staff are all super nice. They make you feel at home and welcome. We were asked if we had been there before and since we said no, our waitress asked if we'd like to taste the Chile before ordering. Intrigued, we said yes. The red is mild, the green has a kick. It's not too often I find myself in Grants, especially around lunch time. I was heading back to Burque from Gallup with my coworker, and we had already waited too long to eat. It was well past noon and the hunger wouldn't wait on the back burner any longer. That's how the decision to stop in Grants to eat came to be. Knowing I am rarely ever in the mood to eat at a well known fast food chain, McDonald's or Taco Bell or the like, my coworker compromised with me and we tried to find something local and hopefully good. We drove down their main street checking out the digs without really seeing anything too promising. Almost reaching what seemed the end of the before having to throw in a u-turn and start all over we see a fairly newer building with a colorful sign El Cafecito. The parking lot also had a plethora of cars which is always a good sign! A favorite local eatery? Perhaps! We parked and made our way in. The restaurant dining area was large, there were several different areas. It was clean too. They were in the middle of cleaning a portion of it so they were seating everyone on one side of the restaurant. No biggie. I can dig a clean restaurant. By all means, clean away! The menu is very small. Also pretty basic. Tacos, burritos and such. I can't say I expected much more though really. I ordered the chimichanga and my coworker had three beef and bean tostadas. We did a complementary order of chips and salsa that tied us over until our food arrived. Nothing out of the ordinary to report on those. It was nice and did the trick to keep our tummies appeased awaiting further consumption. My chimi was good. It was shredded beef which i got with red chile. It was smothered which made my chimi soft, luckily it made no difference as it didn't come with guac and sour cream which you might normally expect. The chile had good flavor but no heat. Next time I would order the chile on the side, I do like the crunch of the deep fried shell. The tostadas came out in chalupa shells, but hey, maybe thats how they do their tostadas here? Final report on those. Good. He ate them all. Said the salsa was good on them too. I did order a sopa as a dessert. It came out over cooked on one side and soaked in grease. It wasn't the best sopa, and memorable only because of those things. Greasy and overcooked. They should have just made a new batch if that was all that left to serve. But what they hey, they weren't super busy and probably didnt see a need to make a batch for an order of 1. All and all, good food for what it was. Still beat going to a fast food joint and feeling some form of regret after downing a burger and a large fries. It did hit the spot. Now, back to burque. read more

The desk clerk at the hotel where I was staying suggested this place. Chips and salsa have to be purchased so save your money, nothing special there. I ordered the taco plate which consisted of 3 ground beef tacos which were just ok. My meal came with 2 sopapillas which were flakey , gooey inside goodness. I came here with my family because we wanted to eat mexican food and this was the only place nearby. We came in and the place seemed really clean which is the only factor that I liked about this place. When we were ordering our food, the lady who was taking our order was really rude. She didn't look like she wanted to be there. She also didn't bring us creamers for our coffee and when we asked her if she could bring some to the table, she gave us a really nasty look. When we got our food, the food did not look mexican at all. The rice was drenched in a red sauce that tasted like canned tomatoes. It wasn't even seasoned. The beans were okay. The meat was ground beef that was boiled, not even fried. It wasn't seasoned, it was really bland. My burrito was drenched in hot sauce, which I thought the sauce was going to be on the side of my burrito. It tasted more like ravioli. Not a burrito. It wasn't authentic mexican food like we hoped for. Lastly, we weren't pleased with anything and were required to tip. I wouldn't reccomend this place to anyone that I know. read more
