Read other reviews and needed to stop for lunch so we gave it a go. I drove right by didn't notice the sign at first so had to turn around. The sign is aged and not easy to read. I'm sure they have their regulars who know where they are. Staff and waitress very friendly. We were greater right away. Chips and salsa is nice to be treated with. There was an older gentleman selling jewelry at really good prices. I bought a silver ring. We ordered taco burger with green chili sauce. Omg. Very good. It came with fries and a drink for $11.99 . Taco plate- 2 beef tacos with rice and beans $12.99. We could not finish our plates. Serving sizes are big. The deco is quaint. Sombrero's on the wall around the cafe. read more

The perfect pick me up after hours of driving. On a road trip back to California and stopped here for lunch - I got the combination plate which was an absolute treat. Came with a sopaipilla and plenty of red and green salsa. The sauces packed a hot punch and everything was phenomenal. That rice!! El Ranchero Cafe was an awesome stop on our travels through New Mexico!!! The service was incredibly friendly and helpful throughout our visit, and the atmosphere was really cute and homey. We were originally going to order take out but were still offered chips and salsa to enjoy while we ordered and waited. We then decided to take the time to dine in instead. All the salsas were really differently flavorful and varying in spice levels! My friend had the Carne Asada tacos and said that they were really good and they included guacamole on the side! I'm also vegan and was offered a taco plate that perfectly met my dietary preferences and was really delicious! Definitely some of the best vegan Mexican food I've had in a very long time. We came into the restaurant and it's open seating to where ever you'd like. The staff were very nice, attentive, and helpful to any questions we had. The atmosphere is very authentic New Mexican, I loved it. I ordered the Al Pastor tacos and they were absolutely delicious with flavor from the grilled sautéed onions, seasoned pork, cilantro, and the added guac I put on top from the side with a squeeze of the lime! The beans were also very tasty as well! Our drinks were always full without being asked and our waiter even topped us off with to go cups before leaving without being asked! Just outside Albuquerque, this mom and pop restaurant is a must visit! We stopped in for lunch and there was already what seemed like the usual lunch crowd. Passing through on our road trip to Phoenix, I am so glad that my hubby spotted this rather than going to KFC, Sonic, or any of the other chains you have to drive pass on the way out. Greeted and seated by the warmest host, she helped us figure out what some of the local fan favorites were on the menu and answered all of my questions due to dietary needs (aka I hate veggies). I decided on the Chimichanga and my husband got the Combination platter. WOW, everything was absolutely delicious! First we got complimentary chips and salsa before our entrees which was yummy. Then not more than 5 minutes later the rest of our food came out! Huge portions, warm, with an unexpected surprise of delicious sopapillas which were absolutely amazing with a bit of honey drizzled on top!!! The only thing that knocks it down to four stars is the rice was super mushy and had more of a grits texture-- really didn't like those and was super bummed. read more

I entered this restaurant today with my Mom and my service dog. We were greeted by a young woman who told us to wait and she will be right with us. She went behind the double doors and a man came out and told us that due to one of his employee's being allergic to dogs, we were not allowed to bring my service dog into the restaurant. I was appalled. I am very attempted to report this restaurant and the owners of the business to the ADA. Someone needs to educate the owners and staff of this restaurant. The only reason why I am giving this restaurant 1 star is because a rating is needed in order to post. My real rating is zero stars. Since we were not allowed in the restaurant, we went down the street to Grants and were welcomed in El Cafecito. This place is amazing. Red and green chile or both outstanding. Salsa's okay. You get a lot of food for your buck. My son got the breakfast burrito is only I got the El rancho it was only can't believe how low the prices were here. The outside of the building doesn't have anything to be desired but the inside is nice. Food is outstanding. I would recommend this place to anybody who is driving through. We are here on our way to Kansas from California and decided on Mexican food. We ordered the Chile queso cheese dip and it was delicious, the waitress and the food runner were really friendly and welcoming. Food takes a bit to come out but worth it as it is hot and cooked to order. I had the Al pastor tacos and they were delicious! My son had the carne asada fries and they were really good and the size was big so he wasn't able to finish them. We loved the food and the service, if we lived in the area we would definitely go back. They didn't scrimp on the meat as all of our meals were plentiful with the meat and the prices were very reasonable and affordable. Thank you for an amazing meal and being so friendly! read more

I paid $13 for a chimichanga... They didn't even know what that was! When they figured it out, it was a literal 2 bite, overcooked, EMPTY tortilla! Never going again. Least flavorful Authentic Mexican food I have ever eaten. I had the Combo Plate. taco, tamale & enchilada. Only item with flavor was the corn wrapping on the tamale. It tasted like it was store bought. Rice was dry and flavorles. The beans from a can with a little ( very, very little) sprinkle of cheese. And since Irma's food was delicious and perfect, we decided to come here and try this place several hours North in Grants. It was FANTASTIC!! From the fresh chips and salsa to the Combination Plate (my son and husband's choice) and the delicious Chile Relleno plate and then amazing sopapillas with beautiful, light honey!! Perfection!! Irma's sister Maria was away, so we didn't get to meet her.... but her adorable grandson was our waiter and her beautiful granddaughter was behind the counter preparing things for tomorrow's breakfast.
