Tucked away near downtown Grants Former Tiendita front I saw that it's now Gabby's Caf Breakfast was my want. River Park across the street early in the day had geese and ducks and walking dogs they wanted me to stay. Gabby's called I could not wait and so I walked away. "Your early sir." said smiling Tam, "The cook is on his way." "Restroom please." "It's down the hall and to the left. waiting for your stay." Music Country, art the same - it's rural N.M. here my friend, horses, cows and lambs. Star of The West brought the list. She shined her light, she spoke her words she made my morning bright. What rhymes with Huevos Rancheros? Farmer Brothers coffee and a tall cold glass of H2O. The beans were swell, the eggs were fine, green chile sauce was gentle on my mind. And into prose I wind. Gabby's Cafe is the in-town Mom of Gabby's Diner in Milan. You can get dinner there if you're on time. Gabby's Cafe has a marvelous pine floor, callung out for Saturday night music and dancing.

I didn't get her name, but she was just the nicest person ever! The reviews raved about the burgers so we decided to try them. My husband had the double cheeseburger, and I tried the Bourbon Feta and grilled onion burger. First, they used quality beef, hand-formed snd smashed, so I love the texture of the patties and the way they were cooked. Buns were buttered and toasted on the grill lightly. Fries were decent. The only downside was that I could not taste the bourbon on my burger, but the feta and onions were on point. We also tried the strawberry lemonade - perfect - not too sweet. It was nice to watch the service team interact, and how they hustled. They do a lively to-go business as well. Great place to stay.

It was very busy when we got there, as it was lunch time on a Saturday. Most tables were full, with a line forming by the time we were leaving. It's right off the highway, so it's an easy and convenient stop, and they have a handle on getting people in and out quickly. My husband got a sort of open face chili burger and I got a cheeseburger. My husband thought his food was great and got maybe halfway through it, good portion size. My burger was pretty basic. It kind of reminded me of the burger you'd get at a big family bbq, grilled patty, standard toppings, nothing fancy. Not bad at all, just simple, and does the trick. Our waiter, Dean, was wonderful! Friendly, attentive, and quick. Drinks came quickly, food came not long after ordering, and we never needed anything. The vibe inside is very classic diner, casual and welcoming. They do also incorporate a Native American market, so artists and vendors walk from table to table selling jewelry and art. It's a really unique experience, I wasn't expecting it, but it felt like we were experiencing local culture.

The casino is kinda strict, doesn't allow photography which I feel really works against them considering we're in the age of TikTok, YouTube Shorts and Instagram Reels era, if your customers or patrons don't share the entertainment experience, there's really nothing else you can do to drive foot traffic. Organic growth comes from a feedback loop. Even a blue collared truck driver like me knows something bout marketing. But oh well. I had to put my phone away. And now, about this Great American Diner. Had I not seen the poster about this breakfast joint...I would have never known there was a diner nestled away in this village. Now that I've ordered the Pork Chops + Eggs Breakfast Platter........and at $8.99? Honestly, these are the best pork chops I've ever eaten on the road. They're packed with juice, a balanced amount of fat, the seasoning is a mix of rosemary, lime, salt, cracked pepper, garlic and oregano. And again for $8.99....wow, does this place no justice because it's empty on a Monday morning. So there it is, if you're ever on route 66, stop in here for the pork chops. Somehow the casino restaurant operators are running this place as either a loss leader (such as Costco's hotdogs), Or... Inflation doesn't exist on Indian Reservations..
