Small family restaurant. You have the option of buffet or menu. I chose the buffet so I could try a little of everything. I tried more than I should have. lol. I liked that the trays were small because they would continue to fill with fresh food. I appreciated that the fried food was still crunchy crispy and everything was hot! The egg drop soup was good until it got cold. Then it had a funny taste. I appreciated that the sweet and sour pork was cut tiny and you wadded your own sauce. The couple of chicken dishes that I had were tasty. I was really wanting egg foo young which they had on the buffet but it was missing the brown gravy. There was a good variety of options on the buffet. Chicken, shrimp, and pork. Brown and white rice. Noodles and two kinds of soup. There were some American items like fries, corn and chicken nuggets I think. They had a salad bar and a freezer filled with tubs of ice cream so you could scoop your own. My sister who has moved out of state still to this day says Canton is her favorite Chinese food - nobody compares! Go inside and enjoy their luxurious selection of buffet and dessert bar afterwards. Me & my husband both enjoyed for only $30 total for our dinner! Or select from their various menu options for dine or take out! I enjoy eating at this spot as a local. I wasn't much of a 'fan' on Chinese food. Until, I decided to try out this place. They always have fresh food put out. The cook usually comes out of the back and checks in on the food displayed, and checks which one needs to be refilled/made. I love that the price is very affordable, and as I always get the "take-out" I would fill mines up with the chowmein, shrimp, fried shrimp, pork/green onion, fried rice, and whatever seems appealing. From where I live it takes two-and-a-half hours to get to Albuquerque, which often means arriving after prime lunch hours. With kids in tow that's problematic and Grants has become more of a lunch option for us. But what's in Grants, man? Well, I've gotten a few leads on old standards and lately we've been taking that last exit into town off the interstate. From the street, Canton Cafe doesn't look like much and entering the restaurant might deter you further but it's worth a shot. Frankly, I found the inside rather dingy. It's other-era quaint and could trigger childhood traumas of eating out with your grand folks. I guess that's part of the charm. I like the big windows. The booths are okay. The middle area is unappealing. On weekends the lunch buffet goes up in price to around $10 not including a drink. For kids, it's a few bucks cheaper. I didn't get the buffet but my kids did and they brought a few extra egg rolls which were good. When I asked the waitress for sweet and sour sauce for my own egg rolls, I was directed to get it myself at the buffet. Okay. The egg drop soup was old school, more watery than thick and served with crackers. My wife had Mongolian Beef which was different than I've ever had it. It was prepared with a lot of bell pepper and not green onion. The taste was good but it wasn't what I expected. I had Chicken Chow Mein which is not lo-mein and is served with crispy noodles. This was exactly what I wanted and I loved their crispy noodles. When chow mein is served over hard round crispy noodles like the ones served here, the noodles start to absorb the sauce and that's when things get good. Yum. I liked my entree. It was not expensive and ran about $40 for the four of us for lunch. Overall it was good. I'm not in the biggest hurry to return but it's something I'd try again. read more

It was my first time here, I ordered Mongolian beef, and hot and sour soup. To say I'm disappointed, it seemed like they served something else off of the buffet. Along with a very small serving of rice, not steamed, it was fried rice. Too much soy sauce and taste like it was sitting on a heater for a couple of hours. The hot and sour soup had a good broth, but no mushrooms and meat. It was not cooked fresh and tasted very bland. When I come to visit Grant's my food choices are going to be slim. read more

Strange location right off the highway in Grants, for really good Chinese. Fresh veggies & meat. Large portions served with a smile. To go only, order off the buffet from a table in the lobby with pics . Or order off the menu. Lunch specials & reasonable prices. I am allergic to sesame seeds, but when we got home and called they told me that the order is the same as General Chows! Not!!!! The best thing on the menu is the Lo mein. When you see people on TV eating Chinese food out of a take out container, this is what it is suppose to taste like. Do not order Chow mein, you will get hard Chung King noodles.... Unless you like it like that (NM style?) Fried shrimp is fried in chili and onions, so good. The sweet and sour anything is good in their sauce. I think I detect a hint of pineapple juice, it is not bland. This is old style Cantonese food, is very hard to find anymore. Do not listen to these reviews. This place is awesome. It is not like your normal buffet atmosphere. It is unique in so many ways including looking out the windows while you are eating. Service was great! They filled up my drink when it was 1/3 full. Get the fruit punch it is the best I have ever had. Food was great too. Crab wontons and the beef and broccoli were the best things on the menu. Everything I had at Canton Cafe was excellent. Definitely a great place to go to in Grants. I live in Albuquerque and I travel to Grants once a month to get my Canton! read more

We got the buffet, don't get the buffet! I've never seen such a tiny thing. It was a little over a twin bed size, long. And at almost $8.00! Won't be going back. But it was nice and clean, and everyone was very friendly and the mint ice cream was awesome. But not enough buffet for that price. read more
