I got the Chicken Makhani with regular butter naan, and my husband got the Chicken Biryani. Both were seasoned and spiced perfectly--not hot, but with a nice little kick. The Chicken Makhani had a really yummy, rich tomato flavor. My husband really liked his biryani, but after trying mine, I think he actually liked mine a little more! The naan was incredible and probably one of my favorite parts of the meal. The biryani was a really nice, generous portion and a good choice if you're hungry. My meal came with a healthy portion of rice, and the naan serving was generous, although the actual portion of Chicken Makhani and sauce was relatively small. Our server was very nice, friendly, and respectful. They do take credit cards, but tipping was a little unusual. They preferred a cash tip, and there wasn't an option to write one onto the credit card receipt. Since we didn't have cash, they had to run the card again separately for the tip. Not a big deal, just something helpful to know beforehand. Water came in bottles instead of glasses, which we weren't expecting but wasn't a problem, and it looked like sodas were served in cans. It's definitely more of a small, casual restaurant than a fancy dining experience. We had also seen a buffet mentioned online, but there was no buffet when we visited, just the regular menu, so I'm not sure what the buffet hours are. Apple Maps also showed them open until 10, but they were turning off the open sign around 9:20, so I'd recommend coming a little earlier just in case. Overall, a great place to stop in the area if you want something flavorful and different from the typical road-trip food. 4.5/5.

The food is the real star. The butter chicken is rich, creamy, and perfectly spiced, while the tandoori roti comes out hot with that irresistible smoky char. Their dal makhani is slow-cooked to perfection -- silky, comforting, and deeply flavorful. Portions are generous, so come hungry. Service is friendly and attentive without being overbearing, and the prices make the experience even better -- excellent quality without the premium tag. Whether you're a longtime fan of Punjabi cuisine or trying it for the first time, this place offers an authentic, satisfying experience that keeps you thinking about your next visit long after the meal is over.

The food was typical roadside diner fare. I had the French dip which was really good with fries that were typical. The taste was good, but it wasn't what she was expecting. The sandwich good. It's really difficult to mess up ham and cheese! The one thing I really didn't care for was the "peddlers" walking around trying to sell trinkets like bracelets, arts and crafts, etc. Would I go again? Probably not.

This restaurant at Hotel El Rancho not…read moreonly has been serving the Gallup community for decades but has been visited by many celebrities over the years. We came here to celebrate an anniversary and enjoyed a nice dinner. El Rancho Restaurant is called the Silver Screen Café and serves a mix of Southwestern and New Mexican cuisine with breakfast in the morning. Because many celebrities have stayed at this hotel, many of the food items are named after famous actors and actresses. El Rancho Hotel is located on historic Route 66 and opened in 1937 as a place for people in the film industry to stay at while filming movies in Gallup. The entrance to the hotel has a large neon sign above it. Several western movies were filmed in the surrounding area during the 1940s and 1950s. Many movie stars have stayed here including John Wayne, Lucille Ball, Humphrey Bogart, Gregory Peck and Ronald Reagan. You can check out several old photographs and memorabilia in the hotel lobby. The Silver Screen Café and the 49er Lounge are part of the hotel. We spent some time walking around the lobby area and gift shop before dining at the restaurant. It wasn't too busy for a Sunday evening. The restaurant dining area makes you feel like you are on a ranch with its old cowboy décor and wood beam trusses. I am a big fan of New Mexican cuisine and ordered the Pork & Green Chile Stew to start off with. It didn't disappoint. For our entrées, we ordered the Grilled Chimayo Chile Chicken with Grandma's Mole and Grilled Margarita Shrimp Pasta. I love Mole sauce and very much enjoyed my Chimayo Chile Chicken. We finished the evening off with the Churro dessert. Everything was great, including the service. The Hollywood and Route 66 tributes add to the fun of dining here. There is a lot to look at in both the restaurant and the hotel. There is a door in the restaurant that leads to the 49er Lounge if you want to eat or grab a drink there while watching some sports.

I personally haven't tried much of their Navajo food, so I can't speak on that, but their vanilla shake is one of my favorites. I love the texture and consistency of it. And the box of fries?
