Awesome. Probably the best Chinese food I've had in ages, if not ever. It's far superior than Chang An in Concord and any other Chinese restaurant in Middlesex county. The food isn't quite as Americanized as Chang An either but definitely more delicious - both their Chinese and their sushi. I'd highly recommend the "Chicken with Dried Red Hot Pepper" if you like spice and Hawaiian Roll if you like sushi. We asked our waitress what she recommended and she told us about their "Hand Carved Whole Eggplant topped with Garlic Sauce". I was skeptical at the word 'eggplant' but it was certainly the surprise dish of the evening. Food and drinks for four people (and an unhealthy amount of leftovers) came to roughly $90 which seemed reasonable considering the amount we ate. read more

Without a doubt, this is the best Oriental-style restaurant in the Acton-Boxborough-Westford-Concord area. They know how to cook reasonably authentic food that is fresh and a little different. The salt content seems low -- as I did not taste a lot of MSG. I need to add -- try the Sichuan green beans. They know how to make them crisp and tasty. read more

My friend and I were hankering for some "Chinese" and since the "Spice Pepper Garden" was near us we placed an order for the Bao Bao for two, [similar to a Pu Pu Platter], Green Beans, and Tangerine Chicken. Most all that we ate was absolutely delicious and well prepared. The steak on a stick was a little bit over cooked...[I prefer 'rare' steak]. The crab rangoon (I ate first}, was thee best I have ever had, creamy with nice spices. The chicken wings weren't cooked a second time... they were juicy and a fair size. Visiting a friend, he suggested takeout from a walking distance restaurant. Ok - fine. But I didn't expect much. I'm a big fan of good, spicy food, but I expected standard or below. This was tasty. Spicy, indeed, exactly as I like it. We even went and "dined" there two nights later. There was a dichotomy - I felt I was walking into a traditional "american chinese" restaurant - and if not for the szechwan food, probably still felt as if I would have gotten below average food. Within that concept, they also made sushi - and I finally deferred from ordering any once I asked for certain items (like ama-ebi) and they just stared at me. Just got takeout from here last week. Got a selection of maki rolls and an order of chicken with broccoli. The food was not edible. The sushi was old--not fresh at all. We were grossed out and tossed it. The chicken with broccoli was also not good. The chicken was undercooked, which makes sense since the guy said the food would be ready "in 15 minutes". We did have the avocado salad. I thought it tasted fine, but my wife noticed some of the avocado was brown. We didn't contact the restaurant because we simply didn't want another order. I get takeout from this restaurant regularly and dine in occasionally. They have a large menu with authentic Sichuan dishes and American Chinese dishes. Most dishes are very tasty. I'm not a big fan of the place's ambience; the building and inside could use some renovation. read more

Grabbed some lunch here with a client and really enjoyed my food. Sushi was very fresh and nicely prepared. We got a Salmon Roll and a Volcano Roll .... both were delicious, but the Volcano Roll was stellar. Double cooked pork belly and house fried rice was the main dishes. The pork was very good....but it's very rich and I would suggest ordering this if you have a larger party. The HFR had very clean flavors and had a minimal amount of oil in it which is a nice diversion from the norm. read more

For genuine Chinese cuisine, especially around the Acton/Stow/Maynard area, you have to try this place! They have authentic Chinese food, so for those of you who yearn for the real thing- this is the place to go! Our waitress, Candy, was awesome and she was just on top of filling our waters and serving our food. The food was nice and hot coming quickly out of the kitchen, and the food was just absolutely Chinatown style! Realized my first review was 10 years and go so updating to say this place is still good. I order almost al Sichuan food so can't comment on sushi or other items. Their dry spicy chicken, cumin lamb, spicy shredded potato, mala tendon, fiery beef or fish stew are very good and consistently so. All of their spicy dishes are unabashedly spicy so we love that. read more

After moving into the area and making a list of "go-to" restaurants for days I don't want to cook, Spicepepper is at the top of my chart! Prices are great and I always have left overs for another meal. I've dined in a few times as well as take-out. Top favorite dishes if you're into authentic, spicy northern Chinese cooking is: 1) Whole Eggplant YuXiang Sauce (Best I've ever had...seriously! Even compared to what I had in Beijing). You get 3 whole eggplants that are first deep fried and then smothered in their special pepper, gingery, sweet and spicy yuxiang "fish fragrant" sauce. There is a backstory to this dish for those who wants to research it. The look and texture of the eggplant looked like whole fish that when I first had it, I thought it was real fish! No bones here to worry about though. 2) Cumin lamb: It has all the northern Chinese spice flares in the preparation of the meat and the lamb is always marinated to perfection (not too chewy, not too tender). 3) Anything "ma la" which translates to numbingly spicy (have a few glasses of ice water ready) The family-owned restaurant is a laid back atmosphere and the wait staff is fairly attentive. The owner, who I believe is also the sushi chef, is very friendly and outgoing. There are times the kids are in there to assist with order placing and checking customers out. Definitely not your off-the-shelf Chinese restaurant with moo goo gai pan and sweet and sour pork which is a relief, although I think there are a few Americanized Chinese dishes on the menu for those who do not seek the authentic Chinese food. This Chinese Sichuan Restaurant is still new, replacing the old Ginger Court Restaurant on 2A and what a great meal we had here! We both love sushi and so we decided on the Sushi/Sashimi combo for two. 2 rolls, 10 pcs of sushi, 20 pieces of sashimi, miso soup and a side salad for $50. The sushi arrived on a large wooden boat that sat between us on the table and we dug in. The fish was very fresh and flavorful, excellent value and beautiful presentation. The service was perfect and we really like the dark, mellow furnishings, quiet atmosphere and the new look that the place has. The side salad was a bit of pale iceberg and uninspiring 'matos. All in all a great place and I can't wait to try the extensive take-out menu soon! read more

Came here the other night and was overall ok with the experience. The place was 1/3 full and had a pretty basic set up. I was very grossed out to see cobwebs in the conners and it overall didn't seem 100% clean which was disappointing and gross. There was only one waitress on and she was very rushed but friendly. We ordered Sesame Chicken, Eggplant in Sweet-sour-garlic Sauce and Veggie Lo-Mein. The food was good but not amazing. The eggplant was a fav at our table. After passing Spicepepper Garden for years on my travels along 119, and meaning to stop in (I am TIRED of Bamboo), a friend and I stopped in for lunch last week. We arrived at about 11:45 so they just opened for the day. Only one other table was occupied. The waitress was polite and efficient and very insistent that we really wanted forks and not chopsticks. I ordered the cashew chicken lunch special which came with soup (I chose egg drop with corn), a spring roll and white rice. The soup was very good, but the corn had that canned vegetable taste. Fresh or even frozen corn would be a HUGE improvement here. The spring roll was tasty and we ordered two more. The cashew chicken was excellent. It was served in a brown sauce with lots of ginger and tasted different than any other place I've had it. My lunch buddy was brave and ordered sushi. I'd never order sushi at a restaurant the first time I visited, but he threw caution - and his intestinal tract - to the wind and ordered an assortment of sashimi and a roll called the "High Protein." He said it was very good. Lunch for two, including sushi was less than $40.00 so in addition to being delicious, it's not too hard on your wallet. We agreed that we would return. read more

Our family of five had a celebration dinner at this Chinese restaurant today. We chose it over other Chinese restaraunts as it was the closet to where live. So it was a pleasant surprise that it turned out to be a delicious meal. We ordered four dishes, spicy dry fish fillets, cumin lamb, shredded pork with green pepper, and pea seedlings (names of the dishes are my translation, so may not be accurate). The first three were all spicy yet had nice taste beyond being spicy. The pea seedlings was the lone vegetable dish we ordered. It was also very good. In addition, we ordered scallion pancakes, which were among the better ones we have had. The price was quite reasonable. Before the tip, the total was about $65. Surprisingly, the restaurant was not busy at all. We were seated right away and the waitress was attentive. read more

SpicePepper dishes out surprisingly authentic and delicious food. 4 of us went and sampled a wide variety of dishes, The chef's special 'hand carved' eggplant is out of this world - a truly unique and impressive dish. Beef with dried red pepper is HOT - and damn good - great flavor with amazing heat - if hot food is your thing you will not be disappointed. The dumplings with red sauce - delicious and again served up terrific heat. Chili oil makes the dish. Crab Rangooon actually had more than just cream cheese (like crab! and veggies) - a very tasty and surprising change. Other hits - the General Tso's and shredded duck were both great. The duck was, surprsingly, the least stellar out of the whole lot, but still a very tasty and well-proportioned dish. The sushi was impressive as well - especially the Hawaiian maki. Spicepepper Garden restaurant is our favorite Chinese restaurant ever since it opened. It serves authentic and delicious food, especially if you like it hot (thought plenty of options for those who do not....I know because many of my friends are not heat lovers) Few restaurants use szechuan pepper corns without which you cannot create authentic szechuan dishes. Thank goodness Spicepepper Garden does. Try their fish fillet with pickled peppers...includes a luscious tofu and delicious sauce. Their sweet/sour sauces are amazing too, just the right blend of subtle flavors, not too sweet o cloying so typical of lesser restaurants, which I dislike. Try their amazing cabbage and eggplant dishes.. Often full of Chinese Americans which is another indication of how great the food is. I see people of all ages there enjoying their meals, including young children and seniors. Pretty quick snapshot, as it was only a friend, his son and me (and they both got the same dish!), but what we had was very good. In particular, the Ma Po Tofu, which shows three peppers, their highest heat rating, was one of the best flavor blasts I have had in Chinese food. I ordered it with no meat, it came with rice, and the waiter offered the two soups. I chose the hot & sour, which was not as thick as usual, so it had a slightly cleaner taste, and was very enjoyable. They also put a small plate of edamame beans out on the table with water and tea (asked for) while we waited. The other lunches were chicken-based, one with the chicken wing appetizer, one with the crab rangoon, and neither seemed out of the ordinary. Sweet red sauce on fried pieces of chicken. But the others seemed to enjoy it enough to clear their plates. I brought half of the Ma Po home to share, it is that good! The one oddity is that they offer sushi, there is a 6-seat bar near the front. Big differentiator, no? Except today they offer no sushi because the owner gave the one sushi chef the day off. This place is great. It's so exciting to finally have good Chinese food and sushi close to Concord. My husband and I went here with some friends last weekend to try the place out. We ordered some Chinese dishes (General Tso's chicken and the shredded duck with ginger) and some sushi (spicy tuna and some kind of crazy roll). Everything was very tasty and the service was friendly. And the food had none of the after-effects that bad Chinese food can have. No stomach aches or MSG-induced headaches or insomnia. A few days later I ordered takeout sushi for lunch. For $9 I got 12 pieces of sushi, miso soup, and salad. The sushi was not as good takeout as it was in the restaurant, but it still was very good. Our experience with Spicepepper Garden is inconsistent at best. Once we waited more than 20 minutes for an $11 maki sushi roll that came out so paper thin, we wanted to scream in protest. Excellent hidden gem in Acton! I've been working in the area for almost 5 years and never knew this place existed. I stopped in for lunch with some co-workers, and was slightly overwhelmed by the many lunch options. For $7.95, you get a meal, choice of soup, as well as a spring roll or crab rangoon. They also have bento box lunch specials as well. The inside was clean, and we were seated quickly by the friendly hostess. Service was also prompt and very friendly. This will definitely be added to the lunch time rotation. read more
