It's been a bummer how many Chinese restaurants have closed in the area over the last few years, but Karma is a new Asian fusion one that popped up relatively recently that I finally got to try for my recent birthday celebration. Entering the building is like stepping into a different environment, feeling like a big city eatery with many customers and bustling activity. There's an almost comically large amount of takeout and delivery orders on a large table at the front counter, so they've really taken the area by storm. Once I had a taste of their food, I could see why! We started with the pork pan fried gyoza, one of the best I've had and full of flavor and a good amount of meat. I ordered the seafood chow foon for the entree, which I haven't had before, and wow it was fantastic. Two chunks of lobster tail are in there with sliced scallops, some shrimps, and numerous squid pieces stir-fried with wide flat noodles in a mild egg white sauce. There's also large bok choys on the edges. It was for sure a top of the line birthday dinner, especially if you don't eat red meat and/or can't handle spiciness or sharing with someone with those preferences. I also had the Mongolian beef which tasted wonderful, flavorful, and tender. I also had a bit of the pad thai which had a really nice flavor, savory and kind of smoky. I for sure want to come back, to try some chicken dishes and their sushi as well. The service was great too. The atmosphere is electric- beautifully decorated and loud but not too loud sounds of happy diners. The menu is extensive and has some creative items. We got beautifully adorned cocktails (Karmarita $15, Cucumber Cosmos $16)- which were tasty but had such a tiny amount of booze. Our party got some sushi which they loved and some classic Chinese dishes- Pepper Beef with snowpeas and stir fried noodles with seafood combo and vegetables. At $28. the noodles were the main character in the stir fried noodle dish- a little too greasy and the sauce was a little dull. I would have liked more vegetables too. The Pepper Beef was $30!!! and it was good quality beef but nothing to celebrate in the dish. It was ok. I guess my 3 stars is that it was a decent restaurant - server was attentive and fantastic, but lordy lordy- the prices make me want the flavor experience to be exceptional and it fell short. read more

I was shocked by the price and thought I'd tally up before I arrived. karma called me right back saying they were unable to make one dish gluten free. Removing that dish they gave me a total of $278. i know the $12.00 dish didn't change the total. Serious allergy complaint: I have been ordering the yellowtail with jalapeños for my gluten free family for years. and this time my two orders of Yellowtail with jalapeños were bare-no sauce. I called and asked why I was charged $18.00 for five thin slices of fish and no sauce. They said the Sauce is not gluten free and never was. The cauliflower had a sour mustard taste as well. Everyone brags about the food here but I think it's the lack of any Asian food in the area that allows the mediocre food at high prices. such a disappointment for our house guests. read more

Our visit last night for dinner was beyond disappointment. I ordered the Hainanese Chicken with rice since this item was not offered in other Karma locations. This was false advertisement and it's $27.00 for a couple pieces of fried chicken. The rice was not the traditional fragrant rice infused with chicken broth and garlic. The special sauce is suppose to be soy based but instead, a sweet-n-sour plum sauce overcame with strong ginger taste. YUCK. The wait staff was in a hurry to get you out of there. The entire service felt rushed. As soon as I placed the last bite of food in my mouth, the waiter will appear immediately to take the dish away. Never coming back. What happened? I love Karma. I go to the Burlington location often and this was my second visit to the Concord one. First the coke mixture was way off. I told the waitress and she brought a new one. Still not right but I endured. You can tell by the color immediately. But oh well. The gyoza used to be awesome. They arrived within 2 minutes of me ordering. They we nothing like the ones I get in Burlington. Tasted like the cheap frozen ones. Decided to try the tangerine chicken. Heavily breaded...despite the menu indicating they're lightly breaded. These were like the sweet and sour chicken you get at a local cheap Chinese food place. The dishes were awful. This went from one of my favorite places to being among the worst. $50 later and I'm sure I'll never be back. The place was empty which tells me most people found out before I did, how badly they fell off. I used to recommend this place to many people. I'm officially out. read more

I tripped one night trying to get by people standing at the bar didn't even near to falling he won't serve me and has told all the bar tenders to do the same we were there least two or three times a week and he also ruined a wonderful relationship with one of the employees read more

Well..... the restaurant design was legitimately fun. And I've added a few photos of that because the hip decor is noteworthy. But a $100 lunch for two, with no alcohol- the food better be damn good. And it was just okay. So we had the asian fries as an appetizer, which was supposed to be tossed in some sort of sweet chili sauce. Instead there was some sort of watery duck sauce on the side with very little flavor, which resulted in a very underwhelming appetizer. The sushi was okay, but generally overpriced. We had warm main courses- tangerine shrimp and tangerine beef. The flavor was fine, but overall not special. The odd part was that tangerine meats didn't come with rice, that was a separate cost. Overall, the restaurant seems to rely on its drink menu featuring scorpion bowls and other tiki inspired drinks with generally bland meals. The service was good, and that's the one aspect that almost dragged this review up to a 3 star. Ultimately though, the meal isn't worth the price. read more

The Chinese food tonight was awful. We called the restaurant to give the feedback and they basically argued and could have cared less. Very disappointing . This was the second time we have had negative personal interactions with the staff. The sushi is excellent. We consider this location as the flag ship location for Karma. We enjoyed a late lunch in Concord after a walk through nation park at battle bridge. Our waiter, Gerald, was fantastic as was all or our beverages and apps. No bamboo chop sticks for this location, all is done first rate! I've been to Karma twice now, and have had great experiences both times! Let me start off by saying that I'm a total sushi snob, and would never order sushi at an Asian fusion restaurant.... BUT, I saw some photos of their sushi and thought it looked legit, so I decided to try a few pieces. It most certainly was legit! In the Boston area, we seem to have a dearth of authentic Japanese sushi (Oga's in Natick and Cafe Sushi in Cambridge are the only places I'll go), but now I can add Karma to that list. And seriously, I never thought I'd be saying that. The Chinese food is also excellent; I've had the tangerine shrimp and mango shrimp, and tried some of the Mongolian chicken as well. They were all terrific. I think the prices are very reasonable for the quality and especially for the high rent district of downtown Concord. I'll definitely be back soon! read more

Extremely expensive for what it was. Over $200 after tip for two people to approach feeling full. The sushi was lacking; very small pieces, tiny rice and thin pieces of fish for about $5 a piece! The maki was good though. The Kung Pao Chicken was bland - no red chili peppers (standard in this dish). Frankly Panda Express Kung Pao is better! They have a fish "taco" that is not at all a taco. It was just a few pieces of deep-fried tortilla(?!) and a pile of poke and nothing else taco-like. The poke was ok, but this is not my definition of a taco! The room was noisy and crowded. I have never gone to Karma before. My mom set up a 6:30 reservation but we decided to go early. We did not know if we were going to receive a table but we ended up acquiring one. The restaurant was packed with a lot of people and was noisy with people talking and music. The menu is Chinese, Japanese, and Thai. We ordered a bunch of food from scallion pancakes, tuna and salmon sushi, fried rice, edamame, and Mongolian beef with white rice and green beans. The edamame was salted lightly and was tasty. The scallion pancakes were dry and the sauce that was provided barely helped it. The sushi was average. The fried rice was average as well. The Mongolian beef was great. It was not dry and it was very flavorful. The service throughout our dinner was inconsistent because our food took very long to come to us and we were handed very small plates for the amount of food that we were given. The bill was 100 dollars for two people which is too expensive. Overall, make your food worth the 100 dollars. read more

I had dinner here with a friend on Saturday and the place was busy. The wait for the table wasn't too long as we arrived towards the end of the dinner rush. The ambiance and decor is beautiful. We ordered some sushi, salt and pepper chicken wings, edamame and some drinks. Everything was excellent! The waitstaff was very attentive. Came here for dinner on a Monday night with hubby and a couple of friends, one of whom had a birthday. We ordered a tiramisu-tini, lychee-tini, spicy edamame appetizer, samosa appetizer, coffee rubbed steak, sizzling scallop hot plate with veggies, spicy General Tso's chicken, and the mapo tofu. We brought our own cake for the occasion. What's Hot - Health and safety. All their staff wore face masks. There's a sign taped on their front door requiring unvaccinated customers to wear masks. They didn't appear to be confirming vaccination, which isn't good. But that their staff were all wearing masks was a good sign. We also saw some of their staff wear gloves. - Menu variety. I'm not a fan of Asian fusion restaurants. I admit that I'm an Asian food snob cuz I'm a native Californian. To be fair, their menu items aren't so bad. There's some Thai, Chinese, Japanese, and other Southeast Asian cuisines. It's also not the stereotypical Asian dishes. They venture into more ethnic dishes, which I appreciate. For example, there's sushi, Chinese food, noodle dishes, rice dishes, a good variety of ethnic veggie dishes, etc... - Drinks menu. They have a nice drinks menu with a good variety of cocktails, beers, and wines. They also seem to cater towards the Asian fusion cocktails, including drinks like lychee martinis, soju, etc... - Quality. For an Asian fusion restaurant, it's not so bad. My scallop hot plate was well-seasoned and delicious. Although their samosas are not Indian samosas, they were still tasty and had a delicious sweet dipping sauce. Their lychee martini and tiramisu martini are delicious and not commonly found in other restaurants, which is a nice change. What's Not - Price. For drinks, appetizer, and 2 meals, the total came out to over $100, without tip (for my husband and I). For a more upscale Asian fusion restaurant, it's not good value for money. I've definitely had better Asian food. - Quality. Hubby's coffee rubbed steak was flavorful, but not tender. The somosas are not Indian samosas, but a weird Asian fusion samosa that's wrapped in phyllo dough and the stuffing was minimal. The mapo tofu sauce didn't taste like the right sauce and it wasn't spicy. The General Tso's chicken wasn't spicy, either, and our friend specifically asked for it to be spicy (not mild). The food flavors are more subtle and dulled than what the real ethnic food is supposed to be. - Portions. For the price they charge, it's not a very good value for money. The portions per person are enough to get you full, but it's definitely not good for family style sharing, which is what Asian dining is supposed to be. - Service. Bad service. To be fair, they appear somewhat short staffed, which is common during this time of the pandemic. However, their staff do not appear to be organized. They appear to be running around, which makes it difficult to get what you need. Be prepared to wait and put in more time and effort to get what you need. - Parking. It's mostly street parking in the area, which isn't bad, but it can be difficult to find depending on what time of day you come. Additionally, it's metered paid parking, so be prepared. Final Answer Willing to come back, but it's not a first choice. read more

I was very surprised to see this place was very crowded during the weekday night. We came with a party of 6 and they told us that we should have a reservation. If they had a reservation function on their homepage, I would definitely do that. Maybe that's an improvement for the future. In any case, the hostess put together three tables quickly and let us seated. Because we came for Chinese food, I have to say this place does not offer authenticate Chinese dishes. However, some are better than the others. We ordered gyoza (actually this is Japanese style dumplings, and good), duck bao buns (good), tangerine chicken (ok), okra (good), black pepper filet mignon (beef is perfect but the rest part is ok), Cantonese lobster (good but very expensive, $50 for a single lobster), duck with plum sauce (ok and very salty), and beef chow foon (ok). Karma was very decent Chinese fusion food. My favorite was the Chinese broccoli...nice and crunchy. The Phad Thai was decent too but they could have had a little bit more vinegar and sweetness to it to make it a really good phad thai. The General Gau chicken was good too. Ambience is hip.
