I've come to Spice Waala during their soft launch, and I love it! I loved it so much that I've come back twice in two weeks. The paneer and chicken rolls are delicious, the filling is flavorful and well made. At 7$ (including tax) it's reasonably priced. Food comes out fast, and everyone that works there is very friendly. They also have chaats on their menu, though I haven't tried any (yet). I would love to see a larger size mango Lassi on the menu as an option and for there to be more seating at some point. Amazing food. The menu is limited but what they do is phenomenal. The flavor punches you in the face and then you ask for more. And the prices are amazing (assuming you bought straight from them), it's around $7 I think for a Kathi roll. Mango lassi is to die for. And on top of the delicious food, they are incredibly friendly people and give out free meals to the community. We try to eat here a couple times a month to keep our mouths and stomachs happy. read more

This spot has a very positive vibe (5-stars) as soon as you walk in. The very limited menu exudes confidence... but also presents a unique challenge: when you have just one or two chaat items on your menu (as opposed to the dozen options that every other Indian restaurant has), you expect it to be mind blowing, awesome from the very first bite. And this is where a couple of the dishes left me wanting. Ordered the chicken roll, papri chaat (weekend special) and mango lassi. The lassi was by far the best I had. 5 stars. The papri (deep-fried crisp) in the papri chaat could use a bit more salt and so could the entire dish (with potatoes, yogurt and two chutneys). While presentation was awesome (and nice to see an Indian restaurant try to ace presentation), the chaat (in comparison to other chaat places in India and the U.S.) was missing that first burst of flavor when you take that first bite. It's almost authentic. 3 stars. The chicken tikka roll. 3 stars. First let's talk expectations. When this is one of the few entrees on your menu, and it has the word tikka... it needs to be a huge differentiator from your competition (other katti roll trucks serving SLU) - which it was not. But it has a few good things going to where I believe it can easily evolve to a 4/5 star roll. The expectation part is easy to fix. The menu sets the expectation that this was a chicken tikka roll. Chicken tikka implies succulent pieces of chicken cooked in a tandoor... unfortunately, this chicken was missing the strong tandoor/charcoal flavor. If you're not going to cook it in a tandoor, take the word "tikka" off the name of the dish, and you still have a good dish. Second, the dish is well-flavored - more innovative as opposed to authentic (which is not a bad thing). Innovative because it's an interesting blend between authentic North and authentic South Indian flavors - which make it a dish worth trying. I would suggest experimenting with a couple changes to raise the bar 1) if you're not gonna use a tandoor, try dark meat (thighs) instead of breast; my chicken was just a shade dry. 2) add a very-tiny-bit more salt and acid (fresh lemon sprinkled on it) to make the flavors pop. Salt is such an important component of Indian cooking..: you can't skimp on it because that is what causes flavors to come alive. 3) An authentic roll, ordered in India, has a few strands of raw onions (marinated in lemon), this adds flavor and crunch. Maybe add that back. Experiment with sliced cucumbers instead? Wanted so bad to give this a 4-star or 5-star but am keeping at 3 for now, until the next time! Bottomline, with a limited menu, you're taking on quite a bold challenge: you're saying we do just a few things, and we do them so well - that you'll be floored from the first bite. Just a tiny bit more salt, more lemon, a bit of crunch, and maybe a tandoor (if you want to stick with the tikka theme) - and you're there! Good luck! read more

The mango lassi and Bhel Puri were the highlight of our visit. Tasted homemade, unique and just quite tasty. We did not love the Paneer / Lamb kathi rolls - nothing specifically wrong with them, just didn't love the dishes. Portion sizes were just right - not too small to leave you hungry. Not too large so you can try a couple of different items. Prices were quite reasonable for the location. Service was polite, efficient and space is well decorated. Parking is the same as other restaurants in the area - you need to find street parking, particularly if you come for dinner or weekend lunches. read more

Ordered takeout 2 weeks back and been dying to try this place out, since it replaced kanak 2 months ago. The limited hours does get in the way of spontaneously coming here. We tried the paneer, aloo and the lamb roll, Calcutta style. The rolls were indeed value for the money, and pretty good overall. They were not soggy despite the takeout, and held their shape well. The masala fries were a big disappointment however, and they looked pretty soggy and despondent. Either take this option out of the menu, or fry it crisp with a flour coating etc. It's a great opportunity to add Chaat masala and serve these, Indian style! read more

Miss Kathi Rolls? You need not look any further. Don't know what a Kathi Roll is? Ditto. Spicewaala has all the answers. And you'll with questions that'll make you come back for more. (I usually leave with - how do they make it taste so good?) Egg Chicken Roll? Check. They call it Chicken Roll, Calcutta Style. Bhel Puri. Aloo Tikki Chaat. All check. If you're vegetarian, I recommend getting either the Aloo Tikki Chaat or the Aloo Tikki Roll with whatever else you're getting. You can't go wrong with Bhel Puri, Paneer Tikka Roll or Masala Fries, but you must try the Aloo Tikki. And sometimes, when pomegranates are not in season, they use beets (I'd use the heart-eyes emoji here if I could). And we haven't even mentioned the drinks yet - they have Bira (very few places in Seattle do - it's an Indian microbrew and if you thought India didn't have any good beers, you're about to change your mind when you try Bira Blonde), Mango Lassi and Masala Chai. Go to 15th Ave and try Spicewaala for lunch or dinner and if it's raining and you don't feel like leaving home, they deliver (currently on ubereats and doordash but check their website for up to date information). read more
