I enjoyed nibbling on the rice puffs but found that I needed a protein or else I would get flavor fatigue. We ended up placing a second order for the lamb kebab roll, which was AMAZING. Lamb is already my favorite protein so I knew I was going to like it, but I didn't expect it to be so good. It was very well seasoned and even a little juicy. I went here for a fairly casual lunch as food comes fast and is very affordable. A kathi roll is $8-8.50, and the snacks are $5.50 each and are fairly sizable. The recommendation is to order 2 rolls or 1 roll and 1 snack for a hungry adult, but I ignored the recommendation and ordered 2 rolls (chicken with egg, and lamb) + 1 snack (aloo tikki chaat) and a mango lassi, all for myself. I was really stuffed at the end, but that was also because this is my only meal I would eat today based on my personal logistics. The chicken tikka kathi roll is really nicely grilled, fairly tender, and the egg soaks up a lot of the chicken tikka flavor so I recommend adding an egg to just one of the rolls. The $1.50 surcharge is okay, but trying it for one roll is more than sufficient. The lamb kebab tikka roll is also good, with a good amount of green chutney that brings forth a slightly sweet flavor. The aloo tikki chaat has a potato patty with yogurt, tamarind, and some crisps, which is a great starter but I enjoyed eating it throughout the meal. It helps cool down with the spice, although the food is not too spicy. The mango lassi is on the thicker side, but can't really complain for $4. It also helps cool down with the spice, and a meal is not really complete without. Overall, I really enjoyed this place and its relatively fast casual format. My daughter has been raving about Spice Waala but every time I come to visit it's been closed until today! We stopped in for lunch and ended up on a bench as there were no tables left. For our party of three we ordered four rolls and two snacks along with a chai and mango lassi. Service was fast and friendly at the counter. Great price and quick service! We came in a Friday around 5. The space to dine in is on the smaller side. It's good for 2 people ideally, but can sit 4 people at one of the tables. For one of the rolls and a mango lasso it was 13.79. The rolls are smaller than a burrito, but pretty filling. I tried both the lamb and the chicken tikka. The flavor was good on the lamb, but I liked the bite of the chicken better than the minced lamb. Both were good though. While the taste was there, I wish there was a bit more freshness to the roll, maybe more sauce or more onions? It was a roll of mostly meat, which to most is probably a good thing. Mango lassi was great and thick, would recommend trying! Overall a place to stop by for good food, just wish there was more freshness to cut through the meat/richness. We came on a weekday right when the place opened. Service was quick and food was pretty good. There's bench and table seating inside available but can get full as the place gets busy. It was pretty quiet overall, music playing was chill too. The masala crispy fries were delicious! We asked them not to put the masala on it, but asked for it on the side. If you've had chaat masala, their masala tastes very similar to that. Not bad but we enjoyed the plain crispy fries with the side chutney. The chicken tikka roll was good. I finally had the chance to try Spice Waala in Cap Hill! They sell Indian street food for reasonable prices and they have rotating ice cream flavors. My friends and I came for the soft serve, they had a Chai flavor when we went. I thought the ice cream was alright (didn't taste too much like chai to me) but I'm glad they have creative flavors. I got two items to go for dinner - the Aloo Tikki Chaat and the Paneer Kathi Roll. Huge fan of the Chaat, I would 100% get it again. The packaging is creative and comes with detailed instructions so you can put it together in the right order. The roll was alright, nothing really special! Came here on a weekday for take out lunch and everything was solid and prices were reasonable. I loved the lamb kebab roll and would get it again in a heartbeat. The fries (masala aloo) were a little soggy, but much improved by some time in the air fryer. The masala chai was not my favorite, and I say this as someone who regularly makes my own masala chai at home. It just wasn't that spicy. I like a strong ginger kick though and a good amount of cardamom, so if you like a more timid chai, maybe this is for you. Interestingly all of the staff were white. His rude responses to other lower reviews basically ensures I won't visit again. Heard great things about Spice Waala but I thought it was just ok. Overall, the flavors are mild which is surprising because the restaurant description boasts of authentic and strong flavors. There is some seating inside and the restaurant has access to a bathroom in the bigger building. Food -kathi roll aloo tikki: my favorite out of what we ordered. Good seasoning. It's a small portion so I recommend grabbing it as a snack -Chana chaat: the chickpea salad was just ok. The taste is kind of similar to what you'd get at a deli -masala aloo: the fries are supposed to be in a spice blend but all you really taste is how over salted it is. The extra green chutney we ordered was good though -chai: my friends ordered the chai after inquiring about it and only after ordering did the staff mention it was made up of 3 spices. The Cap Hill Spice Waala is a simple, inviting counter service type place with an easy-to-use takeout web platform. Just a half block walk up from the Safeway and the Kaiser Permanent North bldg if you happen to be there. My order was a mixed bag. The Kathi roll aloo tikka was tasty, but the chunks of potato inside were undercooked and thus crunchy. I had to pick them out, and the remaining sandwich with just some smashed potato patty was a bit sad. On the other hand, the snack masala aloo (spiced fries) are some of the best fries I've had anywhere in the city. The spice blend is really delicious and the cook on the fries is both super crispy and tender inside. These come with a green chutney that is also delicious. I even mixed some with Greek yogurt and put it in my deflated kathi roll--a big save. I had been eyeing their soft serve for a while and was excited to try it. When I went, their rotating special was a saffron pistachio ice cream; this is one of my favorite combos! The flavor did not disappoint, but I found the ice cream to be a tad too sweet overall. The restaurant is fairly small, but they have tables and chairs if you want to eat there. The servers are super sweet and helpful, too! They serve a variety of chaats, kathi rolls, and drinks and I'm obsessed with all of it! A few personal favorites include: Mango Lassi: not too sweet, the perfect serving size! Aloo Tikki Kathi Roll: get it Calcutta style with egg, trust me on this one. Paneer Kathi Roll: I believe they make the paneer in-house and it is SO. GOOD. Papdi Chaat: delicious chutney and the addition of pomegranate seeds is so great. The story of the restaurant owners is also really adorable, and it's so cool that they've been able to grow and expand to multiple locations while continuing to give back to the community.
