This place serves a variety of Indian and Asian cuisine both veg and non veg. The ambiance is really nice and modern looking. The paneer makhani was so flavorful and a favorite at our table. The veg biryani was also very flavorful and fragrant. The veg Hakka noodles were a little bland for me even though I requested medium spicy. The lime sodas were refreshing but the color of it was not pleasant. I think they probably used Mountain Dew vs Sprite or Limca. Service was great and they even have a banquet hall attached for parties up to 100 ppl. They even cater jain menu (no onions no garlic) if you request ahead of time. I will definitely go back and try some new dishes. read more

Terrible customer service. Placed and paid for an online order. Got an email confirmation. When I went to pick it up, they couldn't find the order. Instead of admitting their mistake and making the order as soon as possible, they continued to look for it for 30 minutes. Then was told they got it but made the wrong thing which is a lie because they still would have found my name quicker than 30 minutes. Finally decided to remake the order and said 10 minutes which ended up being 30 minutes (full hour after the original estimate we got). The owner was rude and obnoxious. I understand being busy but why have an online ordering system on your site if you're not going to look at it. And sometimes mistakes happen but shouldn't waste 30 minutes of the customers time before attempting to fix it. No real apology or attempt at making up for it. Food sucked too. Don't waste your time or money read more

This is my first time writing a review for any service. I want to take the time to say this place is horrible because of the owner nitin. This used to be our go to restaurant up until a year ago on our anniversary June 15th. We even had our baby shower party at this restaurant. Last year we ordered takeout food for our anniversary dinner and they forgot about our order and when my dad got there our food was not ready. My dad waited for 38 mins and they sent us home with uncooked paneer and all dishes were made in a hurry so was missing masalas and did not taste as usual. When we called nitin he was so rude and did not even care to make it up to us instead he spent 45 mins arguing with us calling us liars and said that his chefs never make a mistake. Customer service is really bad and nitin is extremely unprofessional and money hungry. He does not care if you are a loyal customer or a new customer he is not looking to make his customers happy. Since last year we have been ordering from samudrha and moghul express twice a week and have been especially impressed with samudhra's excellent service. Both samudhra and moghul express have excellent food as well and they are close to spice rack. read more

They charge mandatory 18% service charge when food is actually served by a robot and it's difficult to get a human help for dining inside. They charge high price for every dish but don't provide enough food. We ordered a Bengali Fish dish, but the fish wasn't Bengali at all. They gave two small pieces of pompano (a fish that costs less than $5/lb in Chinese grocery) with stingy amount of curry and charged $19.00 for it. These people are thieves. Will never go there again. read more

Bad food, expensive and bad service. Not sure if there's a change in the management but it's decent food not too long ago.

Got food poisioning the last 2 times I ordered from here and the service is terrible.

I came to get lunch and there was an obscene party going on in the middle of the restaurant. I think that they were doing karaoke??? In the middle of the restayrant??? Very absurd lunch experience. Would not recommend. The food was a solid medium-contained a lot of heavy cream and very heartburn inducing. I think the service was also distracted by the party and they were all super slow. It's our 4th time here. They have best chicken tikka masala and fresh baked bread! Also desserts are very tasty too. Our favourite with carrot (halwa?) read more

Spice Rack - Tikka masala - Indian Near Me - Franklin Park, New Jersey

I had recommended this place before but couple of recent disappointing experiences has obliged me to to write this review. Hopefully they will improve. Date 1/19/18: Service issue here, couple of waiters were very unhappy to see us show up at 9:30p for celebrating my sister's new job. Technically they close at 10p. As they hurried the chicken tikka masala was very undercooked. Date 2/1/18: Picked up food as I was craving Indian Chinese. Harish's service was good but totally disappointed with the cooking of the chilli chicken dry, it was not marinated at all. And no salt too. Horrible to be measured in my words here. read more

Ambience is okay. Food is below average, too starchy and the quantity is also not adequate. Service was horrible, servers didn't speak well nor were pleasant. They forgot and sent the order to a different table apparently and served finally after many reminders. They have a lot of items on the menu but they taste quite monotonous. Doesn't match their claim of a fusion restaurant as Schezuan fried rice tastes like regular fried rice. The noodles were served cold. Naans were thin, dry and hard. Definitely do not recommend. read more

Most pathetic place for carryout. Ordered a couple of times and their pick up ETA was off by almost an hour. As a result we had to wait there hopelessly all our Friday evening waiting for just a couple of food items to be ready. Also the food is very mediocre for its price point. There are several other good food options in that area. Would avoid this place going forward. read more

Chicken Tikka Masala dry and overcooked. Terrible. The Dal was watery and boring. Hardly any onions in the onion kulcha. Samosa bland and soggy. Will definitely not be back. read more

Most of the food is great except for some paneer dishes where they just put onions. I like the convenience of having a good restaurant nearby but taste could be better. Edited the review : I unfortunately didn't have cash to give as tip for delivery. And the guy asked me to add tip to the bill.. when I wasn't able to do, he kept calling me 4-5 Times. read more

This is now one of my favorite Indian restaurants. Review is based on my first visit. There are many more dishes on the menu that I will try at future visits and will keep editing this review. Reservation and service: I was able to make a reservation on the phone for about 16 people including kids. Krunal was a 5 star guest host. He is was attentive, helpful (recommends and describes dishes including ingredients and quantity) Ambience: Modern, Romantic (recommend for date night) Cuisine: Indian (street, Punjabi, Indo-Chinese, veg and non-veg) Must have appetizers: krispy chili baby corn (veg, spicy), chicken 65 (non veg, spicy), hara Bhara kabab (deep fried, veg, mildly spicy and savory), fusion bhel (veg, loaded with vegetables, mildly spicy and savory) Must have entrees: Railway chicken curry (non veg, spicy and savory), paneer makhani (served with rice, go to dish for kids, mildly spicy and savory) Average tasting appetizers: kurkuri bhindi (expected dish to be tangy vs just fried) Average tasting entrees: awadhi vegetable, lucknawi paneer (expected dishes to have more spice elements than sweet) Prices: appetizers under $10, entrees under $15 read more

So about 7 years ago when I moved to North Brunswick I found Spice Rack and absolutely loved it. Since then they have moved to a larger location not far from the original one. Over the years unfortunately the prices have gone up and their consistency and quality has gone down. I used to call them and they would know my name and address immediately they were always very polite and provided excellent service. I wish that I could say the same now. Unfortunately, as the business has grown and the prices have soared everything has changed. The staff are now rude and dismissive and unwilling to actually listen to what you have to say or answer the questions you asked them. The time they quote you on your order is immensely inaccurate and always late. I have to say the straw that broke the camel's back for me is when I just called them to place an order for delivery because my partner took our car to work. They asked me where I live and then proceeded to tell me to come pick up the order after finding out where I live. While I would love to come pick up the order I'm unable to and so they essentially told me not to bother ordering. i'm sure I'm not the only customer they're going to lose due to the way they operate their business. Maybe it's the automated robots delivering food to the tables that really took the personal touch out of this business. Just saying, maybe instead of spending money on having robots deliver food to tables the staff should learn how to interact with their guests better. read more

Heard so much about it and had once a good experience dining there too but catering from this place is a big NO!. Yesterday, during a snow storm we ordered catering from Spice Rack, we ordered a full tray of Veg fried rice, full tray of Veg Hakka Noodles, a full tray of chicken Szechuan, full tray of Chili chicken amounting to some $350+ bill. The food reached home 20 mins later and some guests were already home, at that time there seemed to be no complaints, but hardly 1.5 hours later the Noodles and rice start to smell. For the guests that arrived later the food seemed to already go bad. The chicken dishes seemed to be unspoiled but by 11:30 PM, the food was already spoiled and unable to eat, there was a stench that filled the room, and everyone could clearly point out it was the Veg fried rice and Hakka noodles. All this made me think about how old these dishes were, how early that day or day before they were cooked to go bad so fast in a matter of few hours while in room temperature. Upon calling and asking Spice Rack today of when the food was cooked and why it got spoiled in a matter of less than 3 hours in room temperature, they claimed they could not find that order. I doubt that though because when I was in their restaurant during the snow storm the entire restaurant had no guests and my order was the only largest (catering) order that was sitting on their 2nd counter outside wrapped in foil. I am guessing, the food was cooked early and was there for a long time. My advice, if you're really hungry, please just dine in, make sure its fresh, ask when its cooked and make sure not to cater. The experience for us was not great. Some of our later arriving guests yesterday had to make alternate choices for dinner, not to mention embarrassment on our end. Hope you find this review useful. read more

TERRIBLE TERRIBLE customer service We were a party of 5 , they give us a table of 4 in-spite the restaurant being pretty empty , he adds another chair on one side of the table and just keeps walking, i mean you are not giving food free right? Mr. Owner (the old guy with mustache) welcomes you as a host. At least in our case as we were there during weekend lunch. Almost post pandemic time. A human server will take the order. After some time a robot rolled in and stopped at our table. You pic the dishes from robot shelves. The food was less than ordinary and tasted very mediocre. Food, for which you actually go to restaurant, disappoints you here. Not sure why human takes order and robot serves the food. read more

This place is the worst. Their customer service sucks. They should not be in the business of food. I am okay with the sign that says they charge 18% for dining in this is not tip. But I ask for one of the server to tell me about fish dishes he said he does not know and that he would get me someone that never came. I order Thai green curry fish and let me tell you it taste like shit. They put sugar and powder curry and then put the fish in it it was awful. They over charge and the owner was unapologetic. No one person approach and apologize even when I said am going on Yelp. Maybe this is why they moved from another place. The goat dish my sister order was trash as well. Basically they try to make it look like upscale restaurants but it's a trash. Never coming here again. They literally killed Indian food for me. read more

I was thinking whether to give this a 3* or 4* - Eventually I decided to go with 4. Read on ... Indian food in US unfortunately never lives up to my standards - even the best Indian restaurants would get mostly max 5/10 in terms of food quality. This place is no different, but the good thing is they have consistently ranked as good or better than most of the peers in the neighborhood - so in comparison, they are often much higher. They try and do have a few innovative dishes and that's a good thing! The kebabs are very good, curry dishes are mostly run of the mill, did not really enjoy the goat brain but the keema naans are good. The biriyani is a miss - I generally don't order biriyani here, but one time I did, it was overpowered by a strong smell of cinnamon. We mostly order takeout here - since we have a hyperactive 4 year old, and it is an ordeal dining out. However, when he was younger, we did dine out here a couple of times and the ambience was very good. Although we do pick up orders every week, this place we order from only occasionally since there are so many options to choose from around here - but still we do order here sometimes when we have a huge kebab craving. Another reason is when picking up, this place has a average premium of about $2 per dish (I believe it is due to ambience when you dine in) compared to other restaurant around here. Why the 4* ? - These people have been very professional ALL the time we have ordered here - keyword is ALL - and that's good. They have excellent customer service and the couple of times we dined in, it was great! read more

We just returned from Spice Rack. The food was just horrible. We ordered Schezwan rice and Veg munchurian . When we told that the Fried rice was horrible and that there was just peas in it, it looked more like left over veg pulao and all the left over rice mixed together and also munchrian was like just plain flour dumplings . When during the exchange of arguments manager started shouting and asked us to pay the amount and go otherwise he will call the police. It was so ridiculous. We left our 2/3 of our food, paid full amount and left. Owner should take the action against such a nasty and rude manager who does know hospitality and customer service. We found out Manager himself is owner. We suggest never go to Spice Rack and waste your valuable money. There are so many other restaurants with delicious food with great hospitality and customer service. read more

Decided to hit up Spice Rack on Father's Day weekend and it did not disappoint! With my family, it's hard to convince us to eat Indian food out cause everyone is a critic but I can honestly say every one was pleasantly surprised. We ordered the naan, chicken tikka masala, saag paneer, chicken cheese kababs and chicken fried rice! My favorite dish of the evening had to have been the paneer! The paneer was well cooked and soft and the saag was spicy and flavorful! With the naan, this was a winning combination! The chicken tikka masala was spicy and well flavored! The gravy had a great consistency and went well with both rice and naan! The chicken cheese kababs were brought out on sizzling plates and I was impressed at how thoroughly cooked everything was! I would definitely order those again! The chicken fried rice was also amazing! I was surprised with a menu this big to begin with, the restaurant also chose to do some indi-Chinese fixes as well! The restaurant itself is large and well lit! The establishment was clean and the servers were well rehearsed in the Overall, I know I can convince my family to come back to this place anytime! UPDATE: we have come back to spice rack several times after this time and the food and service has never disappointed! Wanted to give a shoutout to the owner and our server pankaj for giving us extra care on a very busy night where our food was taking extra time! The owner even gave my dad a hug! Needless to say spice rack is our favorite Indian food restaurant and we'll always be back! Also the malai kofta is absolutely amazing! read more

This restaurant is by far the worst restaurant in central Jersey as far as the catering service is concerned. We catered indo Chinese cuisine for a party and in a couple of hours the food started stinking ! ( vegetables used in the dish were soggy and smelled rotten) . It was a sheer embarrassment in front of my guests . My family had stomach aches next day. We called the restaurant with our complaints but the servers Kunal, Pankaj and so called "manager" Nitin ( who lacks hospitality and common sense ) were very rude and insulting!! We were shocked and upset how they treated a dissatisfied customer!! The restaurant should be closed down temporarily until they get rid of all the stale food and should get checked by food safety dept . Please do a favor to your hard earned money and do not waste it at this restaurant! Terrible customer service and low grade quality of food!! read more

Waiting time for pickup is too long , it has been 1 hour Over the original time with no updates

The responses from the restaurant on all the negative comments proves what kind of restaurant business they run. Abusive and underpaid staff. Can't handle the rush hour and 1-2 hour wait for food/drinks and if you ask them they are rude and try to passive the customer instead of informing them that the Chef walked out and setting realistic expectations instead we had to wait hour n half for food and every time we followed they said it was coming in 5 mins. There is no manager or owner in the restaurant so it is run by under-qualified staff. I am writing this review expecting that there will be an reactive/abusive response from the restaurant. P.S. - When I was finishing up my meal, I saw a couple being accused of shoplifting and being verbally abused because they were waiting for their food for an hour n half and they wanted to cancel it and pay the bill for what they received and even after that they were called "thieves" and "shoplifters" for questioning why dint they get their food. Disgraceful! Reply to Nitin Chanana: As mentioned I expected a verbally abusive response from the owner Nitin Chanana - and he proved me right. You clearly have me mixed up so I'm not sure who you're blacklisting. I was finishing up my drinks and my table had already paid their bill of $120 in full when the owner Nitin Chanana had accused one of the men for being a shoplifter because he asked why his food was taking over an hour and half, he requested to cancel the food that never arrive and pay his bill. He received a bill of $110 and paid in full. I'm not sure you should be giving advice on how to behave in public when you don't even know how to treat customers and then accuse them of being thieves when they simply want to pay for the food they received. Also Nitin Chanana, I WAS BORN HERE! read more

Not at all impressive. Very rushed and slipshod service (simply disorganized). Certain menu items are not what they are supposed to be but the manager will argue that it is (e.g. Chicken Reshmi Kabab according to the menu is 'Minced Chicken Seasoned With Chopped Ginger, Onion and Spices, Rolled Over Skewer and Barbecued in tandoor Oven' but if you go anywhere where tandoori food is served it is basically "Pieces of Boneless Chicken Breast, marinated in juicy mixture of Curd, Cream, Cashew nuts and Spices and then Grilled in Oven/Tandoor" (not heard of barbequed minced reshmi kebabs and what they serve looks like something you can by out of the freezer section in any Asian grocery store). One aspect really put me off was the cutlery - which was evidently rushed-cleaned (so make sure to double up on tissues to wipe before you eat). If you attempt to discuss this with the management they get really aggressive and have no room for constructive criticism (e.g. manager pointlessly will argue and speak over you without even understanding the issue) This place just appears to be great from outside but its just smoke and mirrors. Not recommended - unfortunately we have to provide a minimum of 1 star for this review. read more
