This is a small lunch counter at the back of an Indian grocery store. You can kill 2 birds with one stone - pick up an amazing lunch and buy ingredients for your own cooking. They have lots of mixes, grains, spices and really fresh vegetables. The lunch is great and huge. With the meal you get a plate of rice, a bowl with your curry (vegetable, chicken, goat, etc.), a bowl of beans, a papadum and a huge piece of naan. I usually take half home for either later or for my husband! It's quite a bargain. Fresh vegetable samosas with spicy and sweet sauces are a dollar! If you're near FIU or in the west part of town, this is a must go to place. read more

While I had read the reviews prior to trying this place, I do not think there are enough words to prepare anyone for this grocery/restaurant. It is tucked away in a strip mall on 107th - a little south of Flagler - and probably does not see many customers with bigger options around (Los Ranchos) is about two doors down, but it is an experience worth trying. i stepped in with an out of town lunch date and was excited about the range of groceries I saw. Heading to the back of the shop (where I knew the counter would be located), I was not really greeted by the smell of overwhelming spice; or anything for that matter, which surprised me a bit. Getting to the counter, my stomach lurched a little as the place was very divey - no menu, no idea what was being served unless you asked, and you just had to hope you got something good. There was no place to sit, so we grabbed everything to go. I ordered the Channa curry and four samosas and it came with rice, nan, mater paneer, and lime pickle. A decent selection and the price was astonishingly low for the amount of food that was given to me.... As for the food, once taken back to work and devoured for lunch, I would have to say that it passes the test. I had been craving something like Biriyani, but the Channa curry was good, if a big watery on the sauce. The jasmine rice was perfect and the samosas were big and crunchy and stuffed on the inside - exactly how they should be. I was not really expecting to go vegetarian for lunch, but it was a nice change and a place I would try again. Add to that my dessert (a Crunchie candy bar), which I spied while checking out and I was quite happy..... Well worth a try, as long as you can get past the dive aspects. read more

I've been a loyal customer here at Spice and Curry for a matter of months now, and here's my review: - The place: I feel like a part of the store. Every time I walk in, starving (as most college students tend to be), I am treated as if I never left from my last meal. Jai and company have this wonderful diversity in their personalities. They bring life to what would otherwise be a quiet Indian grocery store. Whether it's the incense, the allure of the warm masala's prepared daily, or the lunch counter style of eating, I feel like this spot really has a social aspect to it. I NEVER speak to others during lunch at other restaurants, yet here, I feel as if the others at the counter are not only sharing an incredible meal with me, but we're all brought together by the food, conversation, and atmosphere fostered by Jai and his team. Things may seem odd at first, but you'll soon open up to the idea of this place. - The Food: I know this is what you were all waiting for, my apologies for being so long winded! This is why I come here almost twice a week after all... I can't find a plate of food near my office that not only offers a hefty meal, but is only $7 ($8 for the goat, and it's definitely worth it)! Now aside from the economic value of a meal at Spice and Curry, you would be hard-pressed to find flavors as unique and exciting to the palette in Sweetwater as you would find here. The previous Yelp reviewers prepared me for my first visit. Spice 'N' Curry is a hole in the wall Indian market with a food counter in the back. While it is not the tidiest of places, once I tasted the food, I completely forgot about the boxes of product I had to dodge on the way in. You can tell they are not trying to impress newcomers to Indian cuisine. The spices are strong and they punch hard. I LOVED IT! The samosas are probably the tastiest I have ever had and even the soup that came as part of the lunch meal (usually these additions are hit or miss) was amazing. Don't come expecting anything fancy and you'll leave a happy camper. I come here at least once a week and always leave satisfied. As the other reviewers have said, this place isn't really a restaurant but rather an Indian grocery store with a little food counter tucked in the back. They recently expanded so you won't trip over as many boxes anymore, but the place is still pretty small. Even though the store is small, the grocery section is packed with all sorts of curries and pre-packaged mixes. If I weren't really busy and really lazy, I'd try to figure out how to use them and make my own meals. They also get fresh vegetable delivery a few times a week if you seek hard-to-find asian greens. The food is authentic homemade Indian and very well priced. They offer vegetable, chicken, and mutton curry as standalone orders or as a meal with rice, naan, lentil soup, and a soda. There is a different variety of lentil soup almost every day, which adds a nice element of variety. Standalone curries will run you no more than $5 and meals no more than $8. They also have a pretty delicious samosa chat for under $4. Check out the whiteboard opposite the counter for all the menu items. Most of the dishes can be pretty spicy, so be careful if you are a small girl or a typical American that sweats after eating the "hot" sauce at Taco Bell. read more

Huge thanks to Yelpers who posted about Spice N Curry. I'm not sure I ever would have found it, otherwise. What appears to be a small-time ordinary Indian grocery store has a wonderful chaat cafe hidden in its back corner. It's definitely not a proper cafe in the traditional sense (minuscule dining room with just several bar stools at a counter, menu marked up on a dry-erase board, etc) I think a lot of the disgruntled Yelp reviewers here walked in with the expectation of dining at a traditional Indian restaurant (with waiters, a host, pleasant ambiance, quality service, filled water glasses etc.). WRONG: you're at a grocery store that happens to cater some food options in the back. As soon as you enter, tell them you're there to eat at the cafe (else they'll think you're there to shop at their store). They will direct to you to the back and show you their makeshift menu. The value meals are a STEAL. My mutton meal came with one large buttered naan and chole, curry rice and mutton curry, freshly chopped onions, and a mango juice drink. For $8, that is practically unheard of. My friend joined me and ordered an entree of Chicken Biryani. They brought out a mountain of biryani rice on a plate. I honestly can't remember the last time biryani tasted this good. I'm so grateful I got the chance to try out their samosa chaat as well: their samosas are ON POINT and by virtue of association, the samosa chaat is too - made with appropriate spice n' care! The two Latino gentlemen who prepare the food behind the counter are a delight to be around and really go the extra mile to satisfy your requests. On the other hand, the owner isn't exactly the friendliest guy in town - might even ignore you while he's there and might strike you as being curt as you try to interact with him while checking out. I say it's worth it! Don't go here for all the things that make ordinary Indian places really expensive (ambiance, soft bollywood music playing in the background, lovely interior decor, stellar service, etc.). Come here for the good, cheap, quick, and simple FOOD, and I'm sure you will become a fan! PS: very easy to order take-out here. Watch out for their cafe hours. What a fantastic find! Spice N Curry is serves both as a cheap fix for curry cravings, and an authentic Indian Grocery for us cooking types. The service is wonderful. I came for a Jalfrezi curry paste that Publix didn't carry, and thanks to the help of the staff, left with three grocery bags filled with everything from cardamon Chai tea to a flavorful Indian pastry. I also took home a no-frills container of the goat curry, which was delicious and affordable. Places like this make are what put the spice into big city living. read more

The samosas were on the greasy side and I don't think I will have them again but the chicken biryani..well that is a different story. Oh my! I like some heat and for me it had the right amount. I was ready to give up on Miami for Indian food. It's amazing that the climate, flora and fauna remind me so much of South India, but there's not very much South Asian culture here. But one day on the way to the dolphin mall, I spotted this place in a strip mall. I'm so used to see the little latin cafeterias that I almost missed it and I had to process the words Spice and Curry for a moment to really understand what it was. I went in there right away and have returned many times. I love their quick food in the back as it is really authentic. My boyfriend wasn't a huge fan, but he has never been to India so some things like biryani scare him a little bit. The cousins who own it are extremely helpful with suggestions and they are well-stocked with many convienence foods (can you believe that Pillsbury is now making frozen naan and roti). Lime Pickle.... I was craving lime pickle and chicken curry like nobody's business and went on yelp to find the closest one. Lucky enough this one is just a couple blocks away from school and I decided to stop in. LOVED IT! Their samosas are soooo tasty and I was able to find a lime pickle to my liking...salty, tangy...i'm going to eat it with everything. The only thing i didn't like was the fact that it was extremely small...other than that, I really like this place. I'm definately going back pretty soon. A hidden gem in Miami. If you're a foodie, you HAVE to try Spice N Curry. This is the only place I've ever been to where they serve the street food exactly as it is served in the streets of India. I had the opportunity to visit India last year, and now I appreciate even more (if it's possible) the food that is served in this tiny market. The meals are great for their quality and value, but I always tell my friends to try the snacks, too! My favorite snacks are the Kachori Chat and the Dahi Puri! The market sells everything you need to prepare Indian foods at home, from pantry items to fresh produce. The best, freshest potatoes in Miami are sold here! They've got: all spices, fresh veggies, frozen goods (including ready-made samosas, desserts, and paneer), Indian fruit juices, snacks, condiments, sauces, curry mixes (in different level spiciness)...etc. They even have a small selection of garments, accessories, and little trinkets. Like everybody already mentioned, the small canteen in the back serves fresh, homemade Indian food--yummy! Hits the spot when you're feenin' for Indian food. I used to live around the corner and would come here often when I needed real food for dinner but didn't want to spend at a sit-down restaurant. These hole-in-the-wall places are the best. Going to Spice N Curry chaat house is a multi sensory delight. I love the smell of the spices and incense that hit you as you first open the door and walk in. I love perusing all the products in the market & being able to find items I can't find in conventional supermarkets - Lipton Red Label tea, Cadbury Flake bars, and of course all the Indian, British, and other foreign products. I love that every time I go, the place is filled with people who are actually from India - that must tell you something, right? - and love that I can hear Marathi or Hindi or whatever Indian language they are speaking. Best of all is that back counter where you can sit & order your takeaway, or eat your meal right there. I prefer the latter just for the experience. I like to imagine just for a few moments that I'm not in Miami, but have stopped off on some side-street in Mumbai for a bite to eat. And of course, there's the food. This is Indian comfort food at its best. Hot, savory, and a carnival of flavors to the senses. I always order the goat biryani because it's that good. It's Mumbai-style which is delicious. Rice with saffron, cardamom, cloves & more, with fall-off-the-bone meat... Amazing. Great samosas, too. You can pick up a cold beverage and sweets (ladoo, anyone?) in the refrigerators in the back. I need to veer away from these favorites and explore other menu items. I don't think anything is homemade - it's probably frozen food - but that's fine by me for this place. The portions are generous and the prices are remarkably low. One order of the biryani can feed two-three people, and is only 8 rupee - er, dollars! ;-) This comes with naan & a beverage. I wish the chai were not out of a machine, but it's good anyway & that's what it is for this kind of place - basic, unassuming, no-frills grocery store with a modest lunch counter for hungry patrons. I went last Friday to this store. My experience was horrible. I am student in FIU engg campus and use to go almost every week as I do not have the car but not going to go this place anymore. 3 Reasons not to go to this place. 1. Owner has an attitude. No one to say hi hello or give information about the food. Owner does not treat customers well. If any questions are asked he does not like to answer. 2. Food is gross. This is not Indian food. Its frozen food which he is serving for prices 5 times. 3. its expensive than other Indian stores. Because its front of FIU he want to charge more because students do not have car and do not have any other option. Save your money and go to a better Indian stores if you want to eat real Indian food. What he serves is not even 10% of Indian food taste but 500% times more money. Grocery is expensive too. Honestly this place is a gem. It is not pretentious, it does not try to distract you with fancy decorations, it just gives you the most wholesome Indian food you could possibly imagine. You really can taste the love they put into every part of the meal. Amazing if you're in college, especially if you go to FIU. So much food, it's cheap, they have vegetarian and vegan options, and the food is absurdly delicious. My neighborhood Indian friends told me to go to Spice and Curry to get some spices to start learning to cook Indian foods. I walked up to Jay and told him my story and he was kind enough to give me a tour of the store. I know where all the food is, where the unique hard to find vegetables are and the different kinds of spices. I could cheat and get the flavor from a jar with lots of Sodium. I could take the middle road and by the packets of spices to make 20 of the favorite dishes. Or I could take the long want and make the dishes from scratch using the spices. Jay helped me pick out 7 spices to get started with and I am on my way. I local stores with owners who are passionate about what they do! I can't wait to use up my spices and go back for more! For me this is the best Indian food in town! Very cheap and delicious. They always provide naan bread with their meals and that makes the meal complete and even greater. (They changed the naan bread and is not as good as before) they are cooking their rice with less spices now or they just changed the rice to a cheaper one, maybe, and it is not as good as before, but still a good place to eat. A plus plus all around!! I'm recently vegan and this place offered such a good variety of flavor - all in one dish! I ordered the vegan curry and was surprised at how much food I was given (I couldn't even finish, so I took some home). The meal includes rice and a salsa on the rice, two lentils, naan, and another hard bread (sorry I'm not too familiar with the food names) and a drink, all for $8! It is grocery shop up front.They have a small eatery at the back. Ambience is not good. Mostly used for take outs. Owner is very friendly. But what they lack in decor and ambience they make up in food. Food is delicious. Their chicken curry was awesome. Portions are large. I've only had the samosas here, and they are fabulous. I was compelled to write a review because I just left the store and felt so un-welcomed! The owner gave me the impression that I was a bother to him. I ordered samosas to go, he tossed them in the bag, along with the sauce in a container, hands me the bag and points to the register up front (no words). I noticed the sauce was spilling all over the samosas so I walked back and told him the sauce spilled. He did replace the bag/samosas/sauce but with the same attitude of 'not wanting to'. I go to the register and wait. After a couple minutes I ask an employee (whom at first I thought was an owner, because he was very nice and welcoming when I came in) whom I should pay. He points to the owner (who is the same man that was serving my samosas), who finally comes to the register (mind you, there were NO other customers present). I paid, said thank you to him, and......silence. He doesn't say thanks, doesn't even look at me. The employee pricing some merchandise did say thank you. Here's the real reason I decided to write this: I left my keys at the register! After I get to the car and realize this, I return to the store, finding the owner just sitting at the register, my keys in plain sight of him, leaning lazily back in his chair. You'd think he would have been gracious enough to either a: grab the keys before I left and say "hey, your keys!", or b: hand me the keys when I walked back up to the register. He IGNORED me again! Am I invisible?? No, the man has no manners! But after reading a couple other reviews describing the owner of this joint, they do say he is cold 'at first'. Indian grocery? Yes. But also the best Indian Bodega lunch cafeteria in Miami! And I say that only because I wish they were open at night so I can eat it twice a day. There's nothing better than good healthy food that fills you up and makes you just feel good. This man cooks with love and you could really feel it when you go there to eat. luckily I know how the luxury of Uber eats and I'm so happy that they're on their I order lunch from them at least twice a week. the owner has been trying to get me to switch to vegetarian for a while and so long as I eat there I would never have a problem doing it. It's not your traditional Indian food maybe it's Indian food if your abuelito made it but it's absolutely great and it's always consistent and good. And the time she takes to prepare each person's meal with dessert, sides, naan, I really appreciate the time he takes into doing that for everyone's meal including those that are take out or being picked up or delivered.
