As soon as I walked into Asia Grocery, I was given such a warm welcome. The owner is very nice and willing to help if needed! After shopping around a bit, I went to the counter to pay and got the famous potato samosas with some of their hot sauce. I cannot begin to explain how tasty the samosas were! They were filled perfectly, fluffy, extremely flavorful, and the hot sauce was the ultimate cherry on top. So being an insta fan and yelp fan and a Yelp Elite myself (of course!) I had heard about these little pockets of heaven - aka Samosas. So, having established that this establishment was so near to where I work, I HAD to check it out. The service was fact and friendly. I told the male owner, why I was there! I said your samosas are supposed to be amazing, and if they are then I will be back. He winked at me! so..... verdict? I bought three and was on my way to work, so I thought I would sample and nibble ONE in the car whilst driving. OH dear!!! This little market will amaze you! They have a really large selection of Asian products and even carry halal meats. They also have a variety of Asian veggies both fresh and frozen. You can also find hair and body products, teas, snacks, and plenty spices. But i will let you in on a little secret...they make the absolute Best Samosas! these babies are hot and delicious...super crispy pastry filled with a potato chickpea mix that is a bit spicy and very flavorful. And do ask for the spicy sauce cause it's amazing. Also order one of the Chai teas, they come in different flavors and already sweetened. My favorite is the cardamom Chai, it's just perfection. My daughter has been asking me to buy henna for months. Because we had some time to kill while waiting for food, I called first to confirm the business was open and if they carry henna. We were in luck. They were open until 4 pm on Christmas Day. When we arrived, I asked the man I spoke with about the henna and he showed me several options, both under $4 so very affordable. We ended up buying two tubes and some potatoe samoas which were only $1. The samoas were tasty (fresh / hot and flavorful). In college I dated an exchange student from the London School of Economics, she was basically the human version of the United Nations. Born in Israel, ethnically Turkish, spoke Greek, and practiced a customized version of Sunni Islam. Hande didn't cover her hair with a hijab or abstain from alcohol, but was tyrannical about observing religious holidays and not eating haraam (forbidden) foods. We met just before Ramadan, the month of fasting, and she spent that time starving and jittery from nicotine withdrawal. Towards the end of the month she was starting to get delirious, and probably imagined I was a walking-talking İskender kabob and get uncomfortably close to smokers to inhale their breath. I needed to cheer her up. After a successful Ebay mission to get a carton of Lark cigarettes, I was on a quest find Halaal meat. The only problem was Miami isn't Dearborn, Michigan with the nation's largest Muslim community. This was pre-Yelp so by sheer luck I found a Pakistani cabbie outside of Club Space, and he pointed me to Asia Grocery. It not only had what I was looking for but these treats as well -- A menu of seven homestyle items cooked to order. The whole bill of fare costs $20 and will feed 2 big, 3 average, or 4 small people. Having not even seen a South Asian until I got to my first college-level Chemistry class, I had no idea what I was eating. For your benefit here's a brief glossary -- Paratha: buttery fried bread. Chicken Tikka: marinated in yogurt, butter and spices, then baked in a clay oven and served with a cucumber/onion/tomato salad. Rolls: beef kabab (spicy ground meat), chicken kabab (saffron-spiced) or vegi (curried legumes and vegetables) wrapped in a paratha. Samosa: fried pastry stuffed with spiced garbanzos, potatoes, peas and carrots served with chili sauce. I washed it all down with some freaky drinks. It was a bit of trial and error as I tried an Aampanna (green mango) juice box that was saltier than licking Paula Deen's armpit. As an encore I tried Ayran (mint yogurt drink) that's similar to lapping up a Yoplait that someone that doesn't like you dashed against the ground at the Bonneville salt flats. These are some I enjoyed -- Badam: sounds like something a pimp from the '70s would say, "I went BADAM! on those jive turkeys!" but it's really almond milk available in regular, chocolate or saffron flavor. Basil Seed Drink: feels like you're drinking a bottle of insect larvae but tastes like the goddess of love Kamadeva herself poured you a glass of honey-wine. Idris Fiery: ginger beer with hands that will literally choke you with hot hot heat. After trying sweets made from lentils (Jaangiri) I decided to go the more familiar route and purchased Kulfi (frozen custard). The flavors made me realize why the spice trade began in the first place...Falooda (rose), Kesar (saffron) and Pista (pistachio). Asia Grocery is a scaled-down version of the Anarkali Market in Lahore, Pakistan which sells anything and everything from instruments to rice cookers. If you need any help don't be afraid to ask any of the employees of this family-owned business. They're a treasure trove of information for where to buy saris, best tea for making chai or recommendations for Hindi films. I counted down the end of Ramadan to the minute and made my entrance bearing cancer-sticks from England, meats blessed by a cleric, and potatoes (Polish vodka). We watched the Bollywood rom-com, Salaam-Namaste, and then I serenaded her with Modern English's lyrics "I'll stop the world an melt with you" while using a kulfi popsicle as a microphone. This is the closest Indian shop to me, and I wouldn't trade it for any other. It's small, filled with products, and smells just like India. Khalid, the owner, usually has fresh samosas and baklava. They are delicious. You can sit in a tiny table in the shop and order from his menu. It makes you feel like you're not in Miami anymore. Everything they make is delicious: the chicken roti wrap, the cardamon tea, did I mention the Samosas? This Asia Grocery is primarily tailored towards East Indians. They sell the "heat and eat" pre-made Indian foods, have plenty of vegetables, gulab jamun, and chilled yogurt drinks. They have a section of beauty items, household items, and they have the latest Bollywood films available for purchase. The owner and his wife are so sweet and very friendly. At least once in your lifetime stop by here to get the most incredible samosas... and I'm sure you'll be returning for more. They are only $1 each and they have the most incredible flavor. Add some chili sauce for an extra kick. Also try the Veggie rolls, they are something like $3.50 and are so good. Finish off with some pistachio baklava and you've had a light, healthy, delectable meal. Oh and the grocery offers a ton of Asian items packed in a small space and the nice owners will be glad to assist you for whatever you're looking for. Hands down my favorite Indian food supply stop. The best thing here are the freshly made samosas for--drum roll--$1 each! Nowadays, especially in Miami, that's unheard of for something hand made in the store. They are about the size of an empanada and are full of a mixture chickpea, potatoes and loads of fragrant spices. They have a very spicy sauce that they serve them with, with lots of red pepper flakes. After 8 pm they are made to order. You can find just about anything you need for cooking Indian cuisine. You'll find raw ingredients, ghee, frozen prepared dishes, jarred sauces, snacks, and beverages, too. The staff are friendly and helpful. This is such an awesome spot to pass by and pick up many grocery items as well as beauty remedies and hot food served to go. Plenty of the aisles are packed with so many asian cooking supplies that give you the opportunity to sample some authentic and unconventional dishes you sometimes haven't been exposed to. Asia has such a broad variety of cuisines and cultures so you'll be able to spot out many Indian and Arabic foods throughout the aisles. The aroma from all the herbs and spices immediately greet you as you walk in further enhancing your shopping experience. There's plenty of soups and sauces worth trying out. Those samosas are literally crunchy morsels of heaven that were sent from above. I like their tea selection a lot and always pick some up when I'm here. I like leaving here with at least one item I've never tried before because I find joy in exploring different tastes and cuisines. Their juices are fresh and loaded with vitamins to boost your immune system with much-needed love. I loved this place. The spice smell is overwhelming when you walk in, but I'm probably just not used to it. The man (not sure if he's the owner) treated me & the other patrons in the store like VIP. He helped me find the spices I was looking for & even found me shortcut pre-mixed spices to make my Indian dishes even faster. He even gave me tips on different ways to make use of my spices. They have beautiful fresh ginger in the fridge. There were also other fresh items in there like mint, culantro and fruit. I have been searching for fresh turmeric root for a couple months in south Florida with no luck at the major chain health food stores or even a couple farmers markets. Asia grocery had plenty in stock along with fresh ginger and a variety of other spices and Indian treats. The staff was very friendly and the place definitely had a family business vibe. :) They also carry European chocolate bars (the real Cadbury). I will definitely be back to explore some more. I love this place. Its primarily an Indian/South Asian grocery, vs most of the other asian groceries which are typically Chinese groceries in Miami. They sell takeout stuff made there (tandoori chicken, and other delicious stuff). It is honestly a bit overwhelming to the non-asian cook, but they are all very helpful. The samosas are delicious too! Think every type of indian sauce or spice you can imagine. Tons of products imported from India which you won't find anywhere else. Prices are very reasonable (especially if you compare to the asian aisle at whole foods). read more

If you're like me, you probably drove past this place and assumed it was an East Asian grocery. So, I came here expecting to pickup some lemongrass and maybe even some lime leaf. Well, when I walked in, I was very pleasantly surprised. This is actually an Indian grocery with tons of goodies. For those of you looking for East/Southeast Asian products, they do have some of that. To give you an idea, they have the canned green and red Thai curries, they have Sriracha products, soy sauce, dark soy, rice vinegar, chili vinegar, jasmine rice, and even some rice noodles in the back right corner on the wall by the bags of rice. Just to clarify, don't expect much on the Pakistani end of things. Indo-Pak stores are common where I'm from, but this one, aside from the small East/Southeast Asian shelf, is pretty much 100% Indian products. As far as the Indian products, they have all kinds of spices imaginable, whole and ground--whole cardamon, various curries, fenugreek, garam masala, basically everything. They also have those little green hot peppers along with some herbs such as cilantro, mint, and what I'm pretty sure was tarragon. That said, don't expect to find East Asian herbs here. Where the majority of the true gems were was, believe it or not, in the freezers. They had boxes of different types of samosas, chapati, and all sorts of prepared Indian meals you could possibly conceive of, as well as some sort of yummy-looking onion pancake-like thing. They also have in the refrigerated section those delightful juices you find at Indian restaurants and groceries with the fresh taste of exotic fruits like mango, lychee, and more . They also sell plastic containers with a variety Indian desserts in each one for $5.99 in the refrigerator and a plastic container of what I think may have been a sort of felafel (it was some kind of chickpea ball). They also sell prepared foods and do orders for catering because I saw someone picking up a fresh tray of samosas with a red sauce. I don't remember everything they sell fresh, but I know they have kababs for $3.99, naan ($2), and samosas ($1). I had one of the samosas and it was sooo tasty! It has curry potato chunks with peas, shredded carrots, and tons of warm spices. It had the perfect amount of heat that left that nice, slow burn in my mouth. I highly recommend you stop by and try the samosas. Honestly, as I drove away while eating my samosa, I was seriously contemplating going back to get a meal from them because it has to be good, considering how good the samosas were. My only complaint is that they could have been just a tad bit crispier and flakier, but it was still delish! As far as customer service goes, the woman was a bit smug, but the man was super friendly and helpful, despite the fact that he was busy running around taking care of various things. I would recommend this place for anyone who longs for Indian food and wants nothing but the goods. I'm used to having access to tons of Indian restaurants and markets nearby, so I'm glad to have found this place here in Miami. The only real complaint I really have, and the main reason I am docking a star, is that things were a little on the pricey side...not outrageous, but I've seen cheaper for sure. For example, small bottles of dark soy sauce were $2.99. Where I'm from $2.99 gets you a large 24oz bottle of fish sauce, for example. If I could, I would say 3.4 stars as well for the prices and the smug service from the woman. BUT, the food they make themselves was pretty affordable, by Miami standards. As soon as I walked in, the young woman at the cash register greeted me with a friendly smile and helped me find the spices I was looking for. We chatted for a bit about the Indian community in Miami and Bollywood films that will be playing in South Florida. I felt very welcome here. The selection of products is pretty big; everything from spices and lentils, to cooking supplies, Bollywood films and CDs, skin care, produce, frozen meals, and more. I will definitely be back. The Asia Market on Miller Drive is a magical wonderland of everything Indian. We stumbled upon this place by accident one day and now it has become a destination....we even bought "Classic Indian Cooking" so that we can cook with some of the awesome spices that are in this place. The family that runs the store is very helpful and they do not tell you to buy stuff that you will not need or use. 3.5 stars; the default Indian grocery store in Southern Miami-Dade. Why? Well, there are a few others around, but this one is easily the best, especially in its new, larger location (in the plaza just next to its old location). Still, if you can plan ahead to do your shopping at one of the Indian grocers further north (like Mirch Masala, in Northern Miami-Dade), it will be better for your wallet, as you do pay a premium for its near-Gables location. The family that runs it are very helpful and friendly and make sure you try their samosas - they're very good. However, skip the chicken tikka and chicken tandoors also on offer. read more

Wow! I can't believe I've lived in Miami as long as I have and never been to Asia Grocery until only recently. Fantastic selection of South Asian ingredients. Spices, beans, flours, junk food, bottled sauces, premixed spice packages for vegetables or meat dishes, etc. Look in the freezers for frozen meat offerings, like whole chickens or lamb brains. Probably more than a dozen different kinds of basmati rice. The shop is clean and bright. Staff are helpful. The fresh vegetables section could be better, with a larger variety of items (in fact, I'd love for them to have a selection of vegetables as broad and as attractively displayed as at Lucky Oriental's shop) -- but even so this shop is a clear 5-star in my book! read more

The staff is extremely friendly and helpful. They are always eager to answer any questions. This place was a lifesaver! My regular henna person isn't an option anymore and I decided to start doing it myself. This shop had a few options for henna hair dye and conditioner (I chose the one I could read lol), and so many other goodies!! It was kinda packed (Saturday afternoon) so I just ran in for my stuff and left. Next time I'm definitely picking up some snacks and trying their food, and probably stocking up on incense since they have a huge amount. They have a $5 minimum for card, and a 10% discount for cash.
