This is actually my 'preferred' Asian grocery for my area...now. The produce department is significantly better/fresher than when it was Marina. Back in the Marina days, the produce were borderline sketchy, cheap yes, but if you found something, you better use/eat it within a few days, or else it may rot on you. Not here, most choices now seem fresher and sturdier. And still quite cheap, especially if there is a sale. 80% of my haul here is from this produce area to stock my kitchen for the week of a vegetable/fruit rich diet/habbit. I'm loving it! The Seafood area still seems quite the same. Marina was not bad in this department and Hashi is maintaining the choices and quality. I'll usually get something from the fresh seafood case as well. But if I want something more exotic or more premium then I'll have to go to another city like New Sang Chong in San Leandro or HMart in the south bay. The Meat section seems the same, maybe a tad cleaner in processing than when it was Marina. Things seem more cleanly cut and stacked. And the bulk meat you get by the pound behind the case are pretty darn inexpensive, especially for pork and chicken. If making a big family style dish I'll go here over Lucky's or Safeway most times. Pork Spareribs for $3/lb, boneless skinless chicken breast for $2/lb on special, and $3/lb for ground beef, ka mon brah, just can't beat those! Dry Goods the same as Marina, just maybe stocked a bit more. Marina had more holes/gaps in their shelves. So I have been coming in more since the changes cuz they have been working for me. So a positive change in the neighborhood...I gotta show my support and approval.

Special section with products for Lunar New Year also in front. Sad to see only one register open. Didn't look for specials. May return at a future date when I have more time. I think the old location had more stuff from Eastern Europe, but this new location seems to have a broader selection, with more stuff from Western Europe and the Middle East. The guy behind the counter was very friendly and helpful - always willing to answer questions and even give tips on how to use the products that they sell. And his recommendations have been great - we asked him about which tahini and zaatar to get (they have many different brands/types of each...) and the ones he recommended have been way tastier than any of the brands that you find in most markets. Especially good was his recommendation on lebnah - he said that the brands they carry are all good, but they have some that they package in-house that was special. I tried it - it was less expensive than the other brands, but was the very best lebnah that I have ever tasted! Richer, creamier, with just the right amount of tang. Wonderful stuff! Anyway, Crossroads is a nice, clean, well-lit place with a great selection of unique products, and friendly, knowledgeable sales staff. Well worth a trip!

Product selection will not compete with H-Mart nor Kukje, but who cares when the quality (and price) are far superior. Yeah, the huge restaurant in the center is a bit odd considering it's expensive, and did I mention huge? The Bakery is fire. I heart Sulppang. Ladies that work there are very nice. All other supermarkets, except for maybe Fresco in South Bay and Berkeley Bowl in East Bay, have a niche, and you're going to be inconvenienced if what you want to make is outside of that focus. This large market had a dedicated aisle to Latino products, one for Japanese, Central/Eastern European, Southeast Asian - mostly for Filipino and Indonesian products, an aisle EACH! Now, as you may know, Hashi has taken over the market following the retirement of the previous boss under Marina. Apparently the kids don't want to take over haiyaaaa. Not much has changed but necessary renovations are planned, though unfortunately, the European section was down to some canned drinks and Slavic sauerkraut during my recent visit. Other reviews have mentioned how cold it gets inside. During my visit, it was all right, about as same temperature as outside. They don't have a heating system, I guess. Now I understand that Hashi has a focus on Japanese products, but given the physical size and history of this market location, I do wish that its Japanese branding doesn't come at the expense of everything else, especially since there are major competition nearby and we don't need a rat race to the bottom.

I was excited to find some sesame candy which reminded me of childhood snack, however there is no expiration date on the good looking box ($4.99). The food court area is being remodeled, we walked around it carefully. The crabs we steamed last night for dinner were pretty good. Today I tried the sesame candy and was very disappointed. As soon as I opened the nicely wrapped candy, the aroma of rancid sesame oil hit me and it tasted bitter.....basically the candy is inedible. I understand it may not be the fault of the market because this item was imported. The lack of expiration date should have given me a warning, my fault. Needless to say we will not be rushing back to shop here anytime soon, hopefully they do a better job on quality control going forward.

Hong You Ban Mian (3/2.99) dried instant noodle "red oil tossed noodles" -no English label. Chinese instructions similar to other noodles. -dried noodles were wide & long. Boiling time 5-8 min. Rinse with cold water..drain...add sauces, oils..eat..messy. Worthy! Legit mala taste. Not for mala intolerant foodies. -add on sauces tastes like mala chili oil, stale chili oil. All sauces had msg as an ingredient.
