Unfortunately another Indian Grocery Store has started price gouging! We have been going here for years so my mom knows the prices of items they sell. Last week she saw a 50% markup!! Charged me extra which I realized after getting home. Looking at the receipt, a lot of items under "misc items" so one can't even know what they are charging for. To get the money back, you have to drive back to the store. Pretty bad practice. read more

Very very bad service from the front end lady. She doesn't have any skills for customer service. She never smiles. She never greet her customers. If you her any item you don't find she always reply if should be on these isles if you don't find then we don't have it. Her way of talking is never polite. It seems like she is not happy from her job. Store owner should take it serious because due to her negligence, store will loose their customers for sure. She is very arrogant. On Sunday while I was paying for my groceries I entered my Debit Card. When it prompts to enter your pin, she hit something on the pin pad without ask me and it went to my credit. When I asked her why you hit on pin pad . She said option didn't came so I hit it on credit??? What the heck??? Lol .. don't be over smart. She has no right to hit on pin pad during my transaction without ask me. She needs to tell me to follow the next steps on pin pad. I asked her what is your name Mam- She replies that you asked me same question in the past. We go to this grocery store from almost 6-7 years now. We go from SFO to Union Store, just for the goodwill of the store. But this lady is ruining their business. After changing the ownership of the store... this lady is messing up the store. This review is long overdue. Our community started a free food pantry in March to serve those who had lost their jobs due to Covid-19, were ill and immuno-compromised, or elderly. My husband and I walked in here desperate for some flour so that our volunteers could make their deliveries to these needy families during that time. Spice House employees recognized our urgency and charged us $50 for a 25lb. bag of flour. The bag was the only one left and there was no price tag on it. We were of course, in great need and paid the $50, but because of this we have never returned and will never return in the future. Essentially, this place took advantage of the needy during Covid-19 and price-gouged, accordingly. read more

The best service ever. I always leave work late and the people here are always accommodative to let me in to pick up my groceries. Most of the items are fresh and you can ask the boys at the counter to bring you in some more if you need. Price is much lower than India cash and carry. It gives me the feel of a small Indian family owned retail store that builds a relationship with you. My go to shop for Indian groceries every week! Keep up guys! read more

spice house is a bad place did you know they have illegal workers and sell expired canned food like sweets and stuff ... I got dates once and there were bugs inside of it, it was so bad.... its like if you eat stuff there, you are risking your health.....the expiration date can be manipulated by taking off the old date and then putting a new expiration date... there are methods to change the dates! then who says the health inspections are always correct.... there are a bunch of indians working that do inspections... and indians can bribe each other.....just putting it out there for you all to know the truth! Usually no one is at the counter and boys are busy chit chatting. Vegetables are not fresh on the weekdays not sure of the weekends. Spices are well labeled that is a plus point. Not sure about the expiration date of stuff. One review says they over charge. read more

Pretty good store for the area. Asked for organic oils in the store and they started having them. Variety and freshness of vegetables can be increased, include veggies from all parts of India. Would just ask them if I need anything. read more

Well, it's ok. The people that run this place are really freaking rude! My husband had to use the bathroom really bad so we went in but also to buy things. The elderly man said to my husband "don't use too much toilet paper" and then turned to me and said "tell him not to use too much toilet paper and don't flush the toilet paper" So weird.... I dunno. I find that weird... So after that I start getting what I need. I'm learning to cook authentic Indian food so I needed certain masalas that I cannot make at home and I knew I wanted powder not paste. One man insisted that I get paste so I tried it and I failed. Probably because I knew I wasn't ready to use paste but whatever. The products are all really good. You can get everything you need for Indian food. EVEYTHING!!!! They even have certain cookware that can be hard to find. One dude kept following me around to every single aisle and watching me pick up every single ingrediant, thank you personal camera.... He offered me a basket right when I was going up to the register... Gee thanks. The woman who rung me up didn't care for my existence... They have really good stuff but damn. I don't think I'll ever go back. They are not friendly at all. I guess that's ok but if your not friendly, how do you expect to get customers? read more

They have just about everything. Many, many spices both whole and ground, all the dals, seasoning pastes, ghee, pickles/chutney, tea, desi snacks, cookware, Hindu worship items. They have saffron behind the counter. The veggies do not look very fresh, though. Sometimes they have fresh curry leaves. I've been shopping here for a few years. The young guy is very helpful and friendly; mom, not so much, but tbh she's better than she was when I first started going here. I believe Mondays they're closed (I'll update if I got it wrong). I wouldn't call the place dirty but they turn on the minimal number of lights, so it looks dark and dreary inside. read more

I thought this place was pretty awesome. It was like an Indian version of Disneyland! They had all these different products of Indian food that I have never seen before! My dad bought 2 boxes of tea (not bags, BOXES) and my mom bought $40 worth of Indian snacks. Seriously, like they had Indian versions of a "tv dinner." You'll find everything from naan, aloo, masala (both vegetarian and non), curries, spices, faluu da--everything! Even some housewares, cookware, hair products, and Henna. The people seem nice and gave us some free stuff for buying a lot. They were also helpful too when we were trying to find briyani spices. read more

In 2008 a lady wrote a review that Spice House is a warehouse and one should not expect anything more than that. Wrong! This is 2011 and the store is fully renovated and is as good as any other Grocery Store in the bay area. Besides, it first started in 1984 and I have been shopping there ever since and seen it flourish and grow. I am glad to put it into a correct perspective and give it it's proper dues. read more

I liked going to this place before when they had friendly staff. So I went to buy butter chicken sauce, but they were all out atleast the guy was nice enough to check for me. But, the middle age lady at the register is sort of rude, I mean at least greet your customers once they walk-in instead of giving them a weird stare (kinda creepy) but anywho, so I bought a alternative simmer sauce and this lady didn't even ask if I needed a bag for my stuff I bought more than 3 items. I would've paid the damn 10 cents too! So, I just ended up carrying my items out instead, and she didn't even say thank you or bye. Now, just cuz of this one bad experience, I might just have to think twice before going back to this place ;( read more

Good place and has everything that we need in terms of groceries...range of utensils is vast!! very happy to have discovered this place. Never noticed the place before...only stumbled upon it due to kabila restaurant next door. This store is running since many years. The owner and her sister in law have been serving the community with such grace and fine service and celebrating true service since 20 years. They have recently made this warehouse into a nice decent little supermarket.. spicehouse carries all the products needed for all your indian cooking. Keep up the good work ladies.... read more
