This store is incredibly out of shape. How're you going to be open when half your damn store is in the "middle" of renovation? Why do you want your employees and customers to freeze? Why is it COLDER in your broken store than it is outside? Y'all hire lazy employees who can barely communicate w me and refuse to find something in the back. And then y'all keep your poor employees FREEZING at WORK that they have to fucking bundle up in sweatshirts and vests and hats. Truly the most disappointing Asian market I have ever been to. I miss when Marina Market was still here. Hashi is total shit

Extremely disappointed--selling rotten/moldy fruit! I bought a pack of Golden Pears from here, and it was a total waste of money. On the outside, the pears looked okay through the plastic, but as soon as I got them home and unpacked them, I realized how bad the quality was. * Visible Mold: One of the pears had large, soft brown spots on the skin with white fuzzy mold growing right in the center. * Mealy/Rotten Interior: Even the parts that looked somewhat decent were terrible. I cut into one and the texture was completely "icy" and translucent in a way that suggests it was either frozen improperly or was already rotting from the inside out. It's really frustrating that a market would let produce in this condition stay on the shelves, especially since they are wrapped in a way that hides the damage until you pay and get home. I won't be buying produce here again. Check your fruit very carefully before leaving!

Their sashimi selection is incredibly fresh, beautifully cut, and perfectly packaged to-go. I'm a huge fan of their tuna--especially the otoro, chutoro, and akami--but you honestly can't go wrong with their salmon, uni, or any of their other fresh fish selections. Their hot food section is just as impressive and made fresh daily. Whether it's chicken teriyaki, beef teriyaki, salmon teriyaki, sushi bowls, nigiri, chicken karaage, or grilled salmon, everything hits the spot and tastes homemade. What really makes this place special is the family behind it. You'll almost always see Ken, Shu, Misako, or their mother Ryuko, and they make the whole experience feel welcoming and authentic. And if you're into whiskey or just a casual drinker, keep an eye out for their selection--they occasionally carry rare bottles like Yamazaki and Hakushu, which are getting harder to find these days. Overall, Suruki is a gem in San Mateo. Quality, freshness, and great people--what more can you ask for?

I was impressed: the location is clean, organized, has a great selection, and has fun Turkish music playing over the speakers. I was able to find kagit helvah, which is a wafer-like treat; I've been trying to find some for years, so I was pleased! They have a nice deli and refrigerated section, with tempting meats, cheeses, and pickles. I was able to find a variety of tahini. They also have a great selection of lokum (Turkish Delight), of which I purchased several flavors. Best of all, I sat down for a delicious serving of Turkish coffee. I had mine "az sekerli" (a little sugar), which was luxurious and a treat. I look forward to returning for baklava and simit. BTW. My visit was met with a friendly welcome, which was appreciated.

I love seeing people enjoy tea/coffee & treats outside the bazaar with friends and family. And finally we gave it a try! The people who work there are all SO friendly. They were so welcoming and the man (maybe the owner?) who helped us with the treats/tea was especially kind & helpful! We sat outside an enjoyed a Turkish delight, kataifi, and chocolate baklava with tea (we paid for a small and he gave us a large since he saw we were sharing)! Everything was so yummy and we will definitely be back and tell all of our friends! Also the produce and meat are decently priced so I'll be back to get those!

The establishment is more of a market with a hot food counter on the side. I ended up ordering the beef shawarma gyro plate with falafel, mujadar, and fried eggplant. My order was ready in less than 15 minutes. I felt I did a good job picking the items in my combo. The flavors of each item were really good. I especially enjoyed how the beef was seasoned though it was a bit on the dry side, but the included white sauce definitely helped moisten it up. Each of the sides had great flavors as well. Overall, the portion size and flavors were great for lunch. I probably could've saved half for another meal but ended up eating it all since it was so good. I definitely will come back to try more items on the menu!
