This is my go-to place for fresh feta, pita, kabob, vegetables, and the best sweets and dried nuts! Today we drove just to get the grape leaves to make our own dolmas! He helped us learn. Best quality, best service. Worth any drive !

This morning, I bought some cheese. About 15 minutes later, I realized I got the wrong kind and went back to exchange it. I think it was the accountant -- bald, not the one with glasses. He said the cheese had been opened. I told him I hadn't opened it and that I had just bought it 10 minutes ago. He took it back with an irritated attitude, and I exchanged it for a different cheese. When I got home, the new cheese was spoiled -- it tasted bitter and had a disgusting smell. I returned it again. I will never go back there, not even for water. I don't recommend this place to anyone.

Oh my gosh what a hidden treasure! A fantastic Middle Eastern market with packaged goods, a deli with fresh prepared food, a meat and poultry counter, an actual kebab (fresh) as part of their deli, an olive bar where you help yourself according to type of olive and weight ... we got their spinach/feta pie, which never can I resist. In their refrigerated sections, they have more than Middle Eastern foods--Undian naans :-) A ton of produce and more varieties of dried dates I could count on! The service fast and efficient, the costs super reasonable, free parking out front. What is not to love? What a find! Love!

This middle eastern store is one of the oldest in the area. I had no clue it existed until I saw kanafa ( a desert flaky cheesy sweet yummmm). I saw the advert on Facebook and I was added to my bucket list of must go to when in San Mateo. I love little gem like this that offer so much in one place. From grocery, Togo food and a mini dine In area. Unique decoration and dishes catering to middle eastern. Their spice mixes and pickle galore. And I really like their varieties of Baklava and Halwa but let's not forget the freshly made kanafa. Customer service was amazing, as it being my first time and not so familiar to the menu names he guided me and directed me to best option. As I told him I wanted something a little more spicy as middle eastern food is full of flavor but not spicy. He made the adjustment perfectly. While I waited for my food to be prepared I walked around and of course picked up a few unique Middle Eastern items. There was a hidden corner that had household items which are reasonably priced. I was happy to find a variety of marshmallows which my kids love and being we can only have a special Halal type. In the back they had a refrigerator of drinks that are carbonated with unique flavor such as pomegranate peach strawberry. Of course I grabbed one to have with my meal. It was not a busy night as it was a weekday but I'm pretty sure on a weekend it must get busy. I did look over the fresh meat that they had to offer prices were just as average but the quality of the meat look good. A great place to grab a meal and a few groceries while you wait.

Low key probably the best Mediterranean I've had in the peninsula. There are a few other spots that…read moreare pretty good, but Falafel Tazah is consistent and an amalgamation of most tenets that make up good Mediterranean food: the meat typically has a good char and moisture, the salads are fresh, well chopped, and lemony, their pickled products are great, and they have an accompaniment of delicious slices of charred onions, tomato, and jalapeno. The turmeric rice is perfectly buttery and moist. The pita is soft and pliable, but not too puffy - a great vessel for hummus with very brief charring. The hummus has good olive oil and is blended well. Personally, I do prefer it more smooth and with more lemon juice, but for the average person this is perfect texture. I almost always get the mixed grill here. It's a combination of large tender and moist chicken pieces, a thick beef kabob, and the well spiced kefta, which is very meaty, flavorful, and juicy (tastes like koobideh mixed with onions and other herbs). It's also great for sharing between two people. The meat is typically cooked perfectly medium rare or medium, but you can request it to be done however you like. We usually get 3 sauces, which taste like a smooth tzatziki, a sriracha tzatziki, and their spicy harissa that kind of has a sweet sambal-like thing going on for it. The food actually doesn't need any sauce, but they're good on anything. While my favorite thing to get are the kabob plates, their wraps are good and humongous if you need something handheld, though they'll most likely drip with juices. I'm not too fond of the shawarma because it's been hit or miss on the texture. It's rare that tabbouleh is chopped and proportioned to the perfect mixture I like, but they do that here (mostly greens with bits of fresh tomatoes and cucumber, and minimal bulgur). They are a small casual joint, so there is not too much seating, but they do have some inside and outdoors. I like calling in to order my kabob plates in advance because it typically takes 20 minutes to make. Out of all the casual Mediterranean spots from SF to SJ, Falafel Tazah is one of the best.

I generally order the veggie combo, salad with chicken shawarma, or falafel wrap. When I'm feeling lazy, I'll buy a dozen falafel or several chicken kebab sticks to supplement my lunches and dinners. They have two other locations (San Carlos and Redwood Shores). I'm so thankful to have this healthy and yummy option so close to home.

Truly practical: good grip, less likely to slip. Uncommon, but attractive. I ordered the salmon wrapped in lavash bread, minus onions & mayo. I asked for hummus bi tahini instead. There was lettuce, cucumber, & unripe tomatoes (It's tomato season, folks, but most restaurant produce suppliers just sell for bulk, not necessarily peak/in season. That's a different, more costly supplier) inside the wrap, the char-grilled salmon just right. I'd say that even if I had eaten earlier. The salad was marinated (I think) red cabbage over lettuce, cukes, & pale tomato. The whole meal--no dessert--was really tasty and welcome. The staff was pleasant, the food was true to its eastern Mediterranean roots. While ostensibly Turkish, there were Armenian and Greek elements (erm, both done wrong by the Turks).
