We spoke to the owner, she is just a fantastic person. She runs her restaurant with such outstanding customer service. But there is a bit of inconsistency with the food. Specifically with the fried calamari. I don't fry food at home so this is always a treat for me when I go out. The last 3 times I have ordered the dish it has come out 3 ways. First it was overdone. Twice. It shouldn't be brown. It should be golden. When we went back I told the bartender I really wanted to order the calamari, but they had overdone it the previous 2 times. She told me they had a new chef so I decided to give him a chance. It was better, but still not great. Then, because I just can't quit it, I ordered it one more time and it was awful. I'm kicking myself for not sending it back because it was that bad. It was as if the oil was not hot enough and it just absorbed all this grease and had almost no crunch. My bad. I have only eaten off of the appetizers menu because I like doing drinks and small plates so I can't comment on the entrees. You can't really screw up a Wedge Salad. The Brussel Sprouts are a safe option as well. And the Castelvetrano olives and warm hazelnuts with baguette is an interesting dish. But this is a pretty low bar in terms of cookery. The Barn at Hickory Station is a great addition to the community, offering a family-friendly environment where kids can run free in a large grassy area.
