I could go on and on about my experiences at this wonderful establishment. Everytime ive gone ive felt extremely welcome by all of the staff but mainly the management and waitresses. All have been extremely kind and treat you like part of the family. Not only is the service fantastic but the food phenomenal. They have so many options for everyone and im so happy to finally find a restaurant that has such a large variety of different foods especially for a picky eater like me. Personally the BBQ chicken chunks are my favorite if you aren't sure what to get when you visit. Lastly The atmosphere and overall look of the restaurant is so historic and really shows the accurate history of not only spengler's but napoleon as a whole. If you are ever in napoleon just for a visit or live close you should definitely come visit. 100% recommend will be going again!! read more

On paper, Spengler's was a restaurant I should have absolutely loved. It is a long-running, historic establishment located in an equally historic building filled with lots of local character. Additionally as a mom-and-pop restaurant, it positively exuded the 'small town charm' vibe that I typically adore. However both times I have had lunch at Spengler's, the generally clueless wait staff have killed the entire experience for me. The first time I went to Spengler's I had the lunch special chicken breast sandwich, with a side of macaroni and cheese, a cup of the New England clam chowder, and a Pepsi. When I ordered the sandwich, I asked what came on it, and my waiter had to go ask someone in the kitchen. Likewise when I ordered the cup of soup, I asked a question about it, and he had to go back to the kitchen to ask them. Later, I wanted to use a coupon for a free slice of pie, and you guessed it, he had to go ask the kitchen. The food itself was good in an average-sort of way, and the portions were also averagely good, but it really irritated me that I had to ask every time for refills on my soda, and then it took forever to get them. This meal cost $13.96 before tax and tip, but after coupon, which made it about average in value. My second lunch at Spengler's was with a different, but equally clueless server. This waitress also had to run and ask someone else when I asked questions about the Hawaiian grilled cheese. Same thing when I asked how to connect to their new wifi. Exactly like my first trip there, I had to ask for drink refills, and each one was a long time coming. The Hawaiian grilled cheese sandwich itself was pretty good, if pricy. PROS: I loved the historic character of the restaurant; the food was pretty average on balance, as were both the portion sizes and prices. CONS: Wait staff. Full stop. Engaging, friendly, knowledgeable wait staff can make or break a dining experience, and both of my trips to Spengler's were turned from a decidedly average meal into a just OK one by the complete cluelessness of the service. Overall I rate Spengler's as being OK, and might or might not come back. read more

with the passage of time and so much else a little stability goes a long way. no, this is not the same as it ever was but it really hasn't changed much in the almost fifty years I've been in and out of here. rest rooms still include an adventure down the stairs, big old mirrored bar in back, and somewhere in between you can get two snappy hotdogs on rye breads plus horseradish and yellow mustard, a cup of (bean) soup and a soda... anything beyond that is beyond me except maybe a slice of pie. I come to town to visit family and hit the big reset button reminiscing about childhood summers out to the farm going out by way of M1, and decompressing from city life while tenting out in my cousin's side-yard on Wayne Park Drive (neither of which exist any longer) through it all Spengler's is still Spengler's, warts and all, and I'm a little less worse for the travels. read more

Just stumbled across this place while visiting the appliance store next door. Wasn't hungry, but I wish I was. Their breakfast menu looks great, but this was mid afternoon, so I just had an IPA. Again used Yelp to guide me to a higher-rated restaurant to try while away on business. This restaurant has over 100 years of history. It's in a really neat building with high ceilings. My only complaint was I sat under an AC vent and was cold most of the time. You know a place is good when the locals flock the place, which is what I saw. Tried the Reuben sandwich with fries. It was really good! Very good service. I will definitely try this place again for other items on the menu if I stay here in the future. read more

I used Yelp to find this Pub as we'd be driving through this city on our way home. Yelp states that it's open until midnight, which is absolutely false. We got there about 9pm, and there were still tables full, and the wait staff came right up and served us. We had no idea they closed between 9-10pm. Even though we stayed until almost 10, they were very courteous and attentive to us! I apologized once I realized they were trying to close up. One hometown favorite in Napoleon, I highly recommend Spengler's if you love great food and a hometown feel. Tried to stop here last year on the way home from Wauseon, the door was locked as they had some repairs to make. It's that time of year again, and we decided to see what we missed. We were well attended by the server, food was decent and certainly plentiful. I went with the fried bologna, they say it's thick and they mean it. Was good, but not Waldo good (IYKYK). Daughter got the large order of chicken tenders because she was extra hungry. They were much bigger than the slivers you usually get these days, so a take home box was involved. Wouldn't call the onion rings app "shareable" size, but this order was all for me and any more would have been a waste. Excellent choice of music going on, and actually had the volume at conversational level. Only real CON on this visit was with the restrooms being in the cellar, I'm too tall to stand up down there. So, daughter got to turn the table on my making fun of her for being so short. Love stopping at places like this on road trips. I would like to know the story behind the little hole drilled in the floor near our table, though. Might stop next year to find out. read more

Looked for a restaurant in Napoleon since we were looking for a change of pace for Breakfast (which is my favorite meal of the day and found a very unique place called Spengler's located right in the downtown area. I do not know why we haven't stopped there before. The building's history dates from 1879 and had previously been a Bank among other venues. First of all, just have to say, I loved the place. The ambiance was charming, the service was great and the people in there all said hello there, as we walked to a booth. (they also have tables). Coffee was mellow and was passed freely, eggs, bacon and home home fries for me; eggs, sausage patties and hash browns for my husband. We will be back, most definitely!!! Oh, by the way, the only negative I found in the entire restaurant were the Ohio State items they had among the other decor..(yes, I'm a Michigan fan), but my husband, the Buckeye fan totally appreciated it!! read more

What do you get when you cross a diner with fantastic food with a full bar with 5 or 6 excellent craft beer taps, and stick it all in a 100 year old building ? Spengler's, of course. We drove over from New Haven, IN to check out this place and the local craft brewery. We got there on Sat. at 12:30 and the place was packed. We found a couple seats at the bar (a diner type bar, they don"t have a proper bar rail , but do have a great old back bar). After choosing a couple craft beers from the very interesting local craft beer selection they had, we ordered some fried green beans for starters. They were very good, but slightly over done. No biggie. After another beer each, my wife ordered the lent menu fish tacos, and I ordered the bison burger. My wife loved her cod fish tacos, and my bison burger was one of the best I have ever had. Cooked to order, med. rare. The better half also had an excellent slice of mixed berry pie. We could see the chefs cooking up everyones food from where we sat, and everything looked fantastic, and was cooked to order. On top of the great food and beer, every single person who worked there smiled, and were very friendly. The service was great, even though they were packed. Everything was very reasonably priced to boot. So, we have found our new once monthly Saturday drive dining spot. A really great place. Can't wait to return. read more

Spengs is a classic whenever I am in town visiting it's a must. Great local fare. Love their homemade chicken rival soup, hot beef or chicken sandwich great burgers and salads too. Sweet potato fries awesome and if possible save room for dessert! read more

Came here because of the reviews and was disappointed, bowling alley food at best. 1/3 lb Hamburg didn't look much bigger than McDonalds regular burger and smaller than their 1/4 lb. Speng's is a great sports bar / grill / family eatery. They've got awesome Chicago-style hot dogs and chippers (basically homemade potato chips), as well as great spicy fried pickles. They also have the standard range of burgers, wings, and etc. for an eatery. The building is old and downtown, and has a lot of character both inside and out. I found Spengler's today because of Yelp after being in Napoleon a million times for work. In the past I have usually waited to get back towards Toledo for lunch as opposed to some of the other places I have tried in Napoleon. This place isn't an easy find while driving through town but now that I know they are here, I will find them every time. The homemade Mac and Cheese was great and the Chocolate Pecan pie is off the hook. Great service and really nice people. For those of us on the road a lot, it's nice not having the server with an attitude you find at a lot of the franchise type restaurants. Please keep doing what you are doing Spengler's. I visited Northwest Ohio recently and stopped into Spengler's for lunch after reading all the positive reviews on Yelp. All I can say is the reviews were spot on. When was the last time you visited a small town restaurant that was established over 125 years ago? The building is historical which you seldom ever see at least in my experience. I ordered the reuben with waffle fries and it was excellent. The portion was great and barely had enough room for a slice of pie. I had a tough time making up my mind what kind of pie to try. I went with the coconut cream pie which was a large portion and a great value not to mention the best I've ever had. I am a big fan a craft beer and to my surprise Spengler's had a great variety too. I highly recommend Spengler's, great value, great lunch, great hospitality. I just wish their was a Spengler's near me. read more

Spengler's has been in business for over 100 years, and given that there are so few restaurants in Napoleon, it's easy to see why. They serve diner-type food, but the food menu, in addition to the beer menu, is fairly extensive. I had the Hawaiian grilled cheese, which was an interesting take on the traditional - Grilled cheese with diced ham, green peppers, and pineapple added! My fiance had the pulled pork nachos, and they were decent, but not as great as I had expected based on so many reviews recommending them. The pies are homemade (our waitress said by Great Grandma - not sure if that part was true or not), and quite tasty. Prices are very inexpensive. Overall, I'd come back next time we're in Napoleon. read more
