Nittany Mall

It's always interesting to tour a mall that has died and is actively attempting to resurrect…read moreitself. Give or take 35 storefronts that are occupied. That's if you count the non-retail establishments as viable locations to visit in a mall. I did take a stroll around the mall just to get a feel of the layout. It is a fairly decent sized mall, and I can see this place being busy back when it first opened and years beyond that. But like one reviewer has stated in a prior review, once stores started open up on the main drag through town which make those stores more accessible to the university students, the mall started to decline. Along my route through the mall I did make multiple stops along the way. Into and out of a few select stores. An oddity of this mall is that there is no food court or any type of eatery to speak of. That could be chalked up to the year that it was originally built, 1968. But that does not explain why they didn't think about this with each of the expansions they did on this mall. You could have at least thought about having a food court in one of the wings. Enough with the depressing thoughts about this place. There seems to be some light at the end of this very narrow tunnel. Each of the vacant anchor stores have already been filled, or will be filled shortly. Although, when you think of anchor stores, you don't think of those stores as your typical anchor store. But when you think about it, when you think of a mall now, they do not reflect what a typical mall is. Maybe with the addition of the mini casino here soon that will draw some stores. Whether it be a wonky national chain or a local spot that sees the potential. Only time will tell.

Nittany Mall is troubled and there's no way around that. It's too far away from the university and…read moredoesn't have the trendier shopping and dining options North Atherton Street does. Externally, the mall around the former Bon-Ton looks massively out of date. The mall is also small for an area with such a large population. Parking lot is in surprisingly good shape except for parts around the former Macy's. Every anchor since 2015 has left Nittany Mall, with the only replacement being Dunham's Sports. Rural King is to open in the former Sears at a TBD date. Nittany's layout is similar to the now closed Phillipsburg Mall in New Jersey. Interior was clearly renovated at some point as the mall has a 90's color scheme. Nittany's interior is in surprisingly good shape with almost no water damage, a common sight in a mall like this. Tenant mix is that of a dying mall. Several national chains still call the mall home, but those are mixed among the many empty storefronts. Several local businesses have space here. Planet Fitness has no mall entrance, a bad thing for the amount of space they occupy. A local senior center also uses space. Mall does have a bookstore, Bradley's Book Outlet. Nittany Mall has no food court. I would estimate Nittany Mall will not be open in five years, but some of the anchors might. After seeing this mall in person, it would also be a challenge to de-mall portions of Nittany without significant investment. The current owners, Namdar Realty Group, do not make those investments, making the future of the mall uncertain.

You know when you see a t-shirt with a witty saying or picture and you think to yourself, "I gotta…read morehave that!" and proceed to ask the wearer many questions or try to find whatever means to procure such a shirt? People's Nation makes that easier for you. In a college campus where everyone has their own style and sayings, this store can make your statements loud to the world on a t-shirt. You can browse through their store and see all sorts of quips on different sleeve length shirts. They definitely don't skimp on their products. Best of all, if you don't like what you see, you can give them a design and they'll make a shirt for you! Genius. You can choose from a book of designs they have or bring your own black and white design made to the exact size you want. Obviously, you pay extra if you want more than one ink color. Then, choose a shirt from their arsenal or bring your own (there's a Michael's nearby if you want plain t-shirts). My friend and I did this for our Secret Santa people and they loved their presents. Really, it's a great idea. I'm just sad I never made one for myself. Service is usually friendly and turn-around is great. You can get your custom-made shirt within a week. Ask them for details on bul purchases because I'm not sure how they are with those.

I've been to t-shirt stores like this before, and PN is too expensive!…read more Additionally, the staff is comprised of apathetic, bored kids who have no interest in your business. After 3 visits, I can accurately say this is the case. There are a few things to look at, and you might find a gift or something. But if you're a savvy shopper, you'll likely find it cheaper somewhere else. Not a good place to shop in my opinion.

This place is definitely not the best head-shop in State College. There's a better place 2 blocks…read moredown called Exscape that has super friendly staff, a HUGE selection, and a 10% student discount on everything. Grasshopper also doesn't allow returns on anything - even if it's unused! It's a subpar place to get smaller stuff but it's really not worth it because of the unfriendly staff and cash only requirement.

I will NEVER return to this establishment. I bought a vapor pen there and being new in that…read moremarket, I trusted the woman selling them. There were problems with the pen before we left but we were assured by the manager it was just that it needed charged. We got home, an hour away, charged i, and within 1 hour the button on it was broken and the issues that we were told that were related to battery charge were worse. I took the pen to a local store that sells different vapor pens and vaporizers where we were told that the item was in fact a "knockoff" and that the button was not fixable as was the issues that we were assured that were "just the battery needing charged. We immediately called and emailed the store as they had closed for spring break. When the store reopened we made a trip over.. We were greeted by rude and unhelpful staff. She stated "hey, it worked when you left." We assured her that indeed it did not but being new with vaporizers we didn't know that at the time of purchase. At that point the staff member proceeded to tell us there was absolutely nothing she would do for us and that we would have to return when the manager was there, she was sarcastic and continued to be rude. This was by, far the WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE I think I have ever dealt with. If your buying simple little things your safe but I would never recommend this place for anything like vapor cigs, vaporizers, or anything that could potentially require repair, exchage, or any type of assistance from the staff.
