It's always interesting to tour a mall that has died and is actively attempting to resurrect itself. Give or take 35 storefronts that are occupied. That's if you count the non-retail establishments as viable locations to visit in a mall. I did take a stroll around the mall just to get a feel of the layout. It is a fairly decent sized mall, and I can see this place being busy back when it first opened and years beyond that. But like one reviewer has stated in a prior review, once stores started open up on the main drag through town which make those stores more accessible to the university students, the mall started to decline. Along my route through the mall I did make multiple stops along the way. Into and out of a few select stores. An oddity of this mall is that there is no food court or any type of eatery to speak of. That could be chalked up to the year that it was originally built, 1968. But that does not explain why they didn't think about this with each of the expansions they did on this mall. You could have at least thought about having a food court in one of the wings. Enough with the depressing thoughts about this place. There seems to be some light at the end of this very narrow tunnel. Each of the vacant anchor stores have already been filled, or will be filled shortly. Although, when you think of anchor stores, you don't think of those stores as your typical anchor store. But when you think about it, when you think of a mall now, they do not reflect what a typical mall is. Maybe with the addition of the mini casino here soon that will draw some stores. Whether it be a wonky national chain or a local spot that sees the potential. Only time will tell. read more

Nittany Mall is troubled and there's no way around that. It's too far away from the university and doesn't have the trendier shopping and dining options North Atherton Street does. Externally, the mall around the former Bon-Ton looks massively out of date. The mall is also small for an area with such a large population. Parking lot is in surprisingly good shape except for parts around the former Macy's. Every anchor since 2015 has left Nittany Mall, with the only replacement being Dunham's Sports. Rural King is to open in the former Sears at a TBD date. Nittany's layout is similar to the now closed Phillipsburg Mall in New Jersey. Interior was clearly renovated at some point as the mall has a 90's color scheme. Nittany's interior is in surprisingly good shape with almost no water damage, a common sight in a mall like this. Tenant mix is that of a dying mall. Several national chains still call the mall home, but those are mixed among the many empty storefronts. Several local businesses have space here. Planet Fitness has no mall entrance, a bad thing for the amount of space they occupy. A local senior center also uses space. Mall does have a bookstore, Bradley's Book Outlet. Nittany Mall has no food court. I would estimate Nittany Mall will not be open in five years, but some of the anchors might. After seeing this mall in person, it would also be a challenge to de-mall portions of Nittany without significant investment. The current owners, Namdar Realty Group, do not make those investments, making the future of the mall uncertain. read more

I stopped in today to see what was there. It was clean & had a few stores. I was happy to see American Eagle, Maurice, Bath & Body Works and Claires. I went to Gabe's for the 1st time. If I'm in the area, I'd go back. I wouldn't make a special trip to go to the mall though. read more

I met an owner (?) of the mall six years ago and she said that she wanted the mall to die. She said she wanted to keep business in downtown State College. That's worked out really well. The mall is dead. Shameful waste of indoor shopping space. At least the gym will keep it going until they come back to their senses. read more

Although there are so many bad reviews about this mall, I didn't think it was that bad! The mall is very clean and I LOVE that this mall has Rural King. Although I was disappointed that Rural King doesn't have a mall entrance, which didn't make sense to me. Will definitely go back! read more

So sad. This mall was not awesome when I attended PSU in the late 90s but now it's just an empty building with nothing going on inside. I used to have a shopping spree a couple times a month back in the day. When we went to "shop" at the mall yesterday, all I came out with was two magnets. Yippee! read more

First there is basically nothing in this "mall". As we were leaving tonight my daughter had to use the restroom, the grouchy ass old lady that was taking out trash decided to single out my children and myself. Mumbling under her breath at us, telling my kids not to run (they ran maybe to feet to the bathroom) and then says in a nasty voice. We're closed! It's 7pm. I said I am.aware but she needs to use the bathroom. She proceeds to tell me, well she should have went before hand. My response was not as nice this time around. Mind you there is at least 20 people still wandering the mall but she says nothing to any of them. If she's so miserable at her job maybe she should take her rude self somewhere else! read more

Ugh. On a positive note, some of the basic mall stores are here: macy's, victoria's secret and auntie anne's pretzels, ... It works well enough for those times when I don't have time to wait for shipment of an online purchase and need something asap. read more

I have to give this place a low review, it's just depressing. It will be a ghost town in probably 5-10 years. I moved to Penns Valley which is outside of state college 7 years ago or so and this place was relatively busy and had all functional business's for the most part. But as each year progresses another store or stores leave. Today when I went there were a good two or three, possibly stores that were having closing sales so everything was cheap. Other than that there are a couple places that are local and aren't corporate while the rest of the businesses in there that are corporate and haven't left are the ones that have kept the place afloat. read more

Agreed. One end of this mall is completely useless, and the rest is pretty spotty. Things come and go a lot, so there are a lot of empty storefronts. Honestly, one of the highlights is the Chinese restaurant, which is super weird. If you really need to shop, you'll have to leave State College. read more

This place shouldn't really be called a mall. It should be a place with a few stores. There are no more than 5 decent stores and the place is always boring and dead. The first time I came here, I thought there was another level or side to the mall. I was wrong. Granted it is in state college, but don't have high expectations here. I wish they would renovate, but it doesn't seem like the area has a high demand for clothes retailers in a huge mall. read more

For the love of God, if you must shop, go to Altoona. Honestly, you would think most major retailers would be giddy with the thought of opening storefronts in a small town where 75% of the population are college students with daddy's credit cards in hand. Nope: a total shock. To start off our grand adventure, there's no actual food court. Yup. You heard me. No food court. A couple restaurants, yes, but no Dunkin Donuts, no Burger King, no Panda Express, nada. There is however, a Bonton. Yes indeed, one of the most useless department stores of all time. The stores range from a small bookstore (surprisingly not a Waldenbooks), to Victoria's Secret, to Claire's, an American Eagle and eventually a GAP. The Macy's is possibly the worse one I've ever been to- it's ridiculously tiny and doesn't carry any of the great brands or lines that many of the others do, ie Chanel, etc. The GAP and American Eagle were just about the only decent places to buy clothes in town aside from Target. Granted they were smaller than the other locations but in State College, you have to take what you can get. The rest of the fronts are a random hodgepodge of total lameness: I cannot even begin to count how many stores opened and closed in the last seven years. There is however a Garfield's which is a chain restaurant much like Fridays or Uno's. Since they opened my fiancee and I really enjoyed eating there: the food was a little typical but the prices were low and the service prompt. They did have a cool assortment of interesting appetizers and always gave out great coupons. I think there was an episode of "Maury" where he gave some helpless girl a gift certificate for the Nittany Mall. She totally got shafted. My only reasons for ever popping in were the GAP, Vicky's and dinner at Garfield's. Period. Like I said before, go to Altoona people! read more

I know you're not supposed to compare the amenities of one region to another, and I grew up about 10 minutes from the King of Prussia mall, so any comparison to there is useless. HOWEVER: I've been to many a small-town mall with better national chain stores and selection than Nittany. Even their standards, like the Gap, don't have the extensive inventory of other Gaps. This mall is on a bus line from campus; I'd think, therefore, that the demand for a higher-market retail spread is already there. Most of the PSU population must shop online--I know I do! read more

This has got to be the smallest, most boring mall in the world. The stores I mainly visit when I'm here are - charloette russe( for their fabulous deals on shirts) , Auntie Anne's pretzel (cause its the only Anne's pretzel place in the area from my understanding, but then again I never looked around), express, and macys. Nothing here is worth much, there's a Vietnamese salon that does Mani/pedis for 35$...which I thought was pricey and they didn't even do that great of a job. Boring, but it`ll get the job done, if u have some time and gas money to spare, head to altoona instead! read more

I've been to this mall plenty of times, and each time it gets worst and worst. Yes, it may have most of the popular retail stores (i.e. American Eagle, Hollister, Macys) but the people who work there are miserable and never want to help. They are also very rude and lie to your face. I've tried to do a couple returns and every one of them have lied to me telling me that I am only going to get store credit or I can't return it at all. The stores itself don't have any good merchandise. You're probably better off ordering online or traveling somewhere further. read more

Borderline "dead mall" status - many empty storefronts. Macy's is still decent for clothing, and Dunhams Sports is good, but the other anchors (Sears, Bon Ton) feel like they are straight out of the 1980's. On a recent Saturday night you could have rolled a bowling ball down the concourse and not hit a soul - there was literally *one* car in the parking lot outside of Sears. Spend the extra 30 minutes and drive down I-99 to Altoona. read more

The mall is fine....but the nittany nail salon in the mall was so dirty I did not have my mani & pedi. The water for my pedicure was dirty so I asked the girl to clean and redo water. Instead she put on the bubbles....I said no thanks put on my shoes and left. read more

I decided to venture west and head into State College to check out the mall. I went in entrance "C". Cute gift shop with an inviting fall decor store display. Walked around the Mall, a lot of empty stores, which the future of most malls these days. But,than nature called. The bathroom I used was very clean just a single room. While I was in there there was a knock on the door, I said just a moment almost done. Than a man's voice said "the men's bathroom is backing up, please do not flush or use the sink." I replied ok. I was a little disgusted, but felt bad that someone will have to tend to the bathroom after I left. I peeked out the door, looked both ways in the hall, and ran like the wind. I want to thank Bath and Body Works and their demo sink and a variety of soaps to test. I took advantage of that, because I am very vigilant on hand washing after using a restroom. Especially a public one. Oh yeah the frosted cranberry soap is the bomb. read more

Since State College really is its own bubble, I fully expected there to be more shopping options from this mall. As a college student, I can't afford the stores the downtown has to offer, so the mall chain stores have to do. This mall has some of the basics: Macy's, hair salons, CVS, and about two food establishments, but there really should be more. It's great that there is a bus from campus, but after making the trek there I wish there was a more extensive mall on the other end. read more

Went to the mall with my best friend and had my service dog with me. This is the WORST mall I have ever been too. The mall cop and one of the guys at the kiosk there were rude as hell. Asking me if my dog was an actual service dog and wanting to know exactly what he was used for. As far as I am aware of my service dog is here to help me with my chronic illness. And I shouldn't have to feel interrogated or intimated just because of my service dog as we go out to do our daily tasks. This is the FIRST AND LAST TIME I will ever be at that mall. I will never go there again. Anybody with a service dog shouldn't be treated rudely and asked a bunch of questions just to see if I was telling the truth about my service dog. I'm not surprised this mall is so empty and going out of business. I am so disgusted with the way the service here is. I will take my business elsewhere. Somewhere where all of the store are actually open and operating. 4 stores at this mall were closed. Not going here ever again. read more
