The problems I had were management and checkout. 2 cashiers, 2 parties in front of me. Each party must have had 40-50 items! I had one shirt to buy. Cashiers were VERY slow. Scanned about 3 items a minute. I waited like 20 minutes for my turn, 7 people backed up behind me. The customers in front of me, well, 3 calls to the manager to try to peel 20 cents off items, and to ask long questions about receipts and returns. But after helping, the manager looked at the line of waiting customers, turned on his heel, and ran to the back! My cashier took a break to sip her drink for a minute or two before helping me. It must be boring to work in a store like this with no windows; Probably low pay, so motivation might not be there, and the low prices keep people coming back, but seriously! I was on a short lunch break, and returned to work late. Maybe it's karma, you know? Those employees may be my customers one day, and maybe in a hurry...

I always find it a huge disappointment when you walk into one of these and the men's section is almost nonexistent. And what is available is like the leftovers that probably would end up at Goodwill. Very few times have I been able to find anything clothing wise. With the pared down selection, and sparse items, this place felt cavernous. To the point if you weren't in here with other customers, you would feel like you were in a movie where you are the only person left. Customer service was over the top here. That is one area where they did succeed at.

Harpers is a rare gem to have in this area, and we're lucky to have them. The staff are all very fashion-forward, and are all more than capable to send you on your way looking sharper than when you came in. The store itself is very upscale, and feels like a place you'd find on Savile Row (without the Savile Row prices.) Really great seasonal selections, with a lot of well-curated accessories available. Their custom garments are where they really shine however. With hundreds of fabrics, linings, buttons, and styles to choose from, it is always a joy creating something that is uniquely yours. Used to think it was just the "poor college kid" treatment but even as middle aged person they still give you the you should appreciate us approach. A decent selection of outdoor clothing, a much smaller selection of ski boots and ski than I recall. They also resell LL Bean items. Footwear associates were quick to offer assistance. When checking out, be prepared to pay a premium to the local shopping experience and the tacky "who assisted you?" obviously for a commission credit is uncomfortable!

The running shoes they carry are mostly for trail running, but an employee helped me find a pair of street running shoes that were just what I was looking for. So Urban Outfitters has finally made its way to State College. Located right in the heart of…read moredowntown State College is where you can find a haven for college kids. This Urban is pretty much the same cookie cutter layout that you'd find in any major city or mall. The store itself is split into two floors, with the first floor dedicated to women, and the second floor to men and other misc items. Traffic throughout the store isn't too bad throughout the week, as students are scattered around downtown and campus so there isn't really ever a line here. As far as the selection goes, it pretty much has everything you'd find at a full-fledged Urban Outfitters. From shoes, to random books, to clothes, you'll find them all over at Urban. This place is great for the college student who's on a budget, but on the downside, the quality of the clothing and other things sold here is mediocre. For an older individual who wants more quality items, you probably would want to shy away from Urban. Just come here to buy a t-shirt for $20, and if it rips after 5x of wear, then oh well!
