This review isn't about the local Spectrum office, it's about the quality of the internet that they provide, and how the corporate office treats you. If I could give less than one star I would. And after reading my post, perhaps you should look elsewhere.
I bought the service from some employees of Spectrum at the Walmart on South Street in Long Beach, between Downey and Lakewood streets. Had the service for 1 year and 1 month. Service cost 50, which I thought was just okay at the time. After 1 year, and without any forewarning, they raised my rate to 70. I had auto pay, and because I only had enough in the bank to cover the 50 I thought they were going to charge, I got slammed with an overdraft fee.
I was pissed off and cancelled the service immediately. Spectrum would not reimburse, citing that it was already in between billing periods, so I had to eat the 70 they charged me, and the overdraft fee.
A week later, they send me a bill with mystery math applied, stating I owed now 79. I called and told them to pound sand I already cancelled, but found out that they were about to illegally charge me through autopsy because they forgot to take off autopay. Then I mysteriously get another bill where "fuzzy" math was applied to determine I now owed them 179. Needless to say, I called them again and this time cussed them out. I asked who was in charge of charging peoples accounts that don't know how to CANCEL an account, CANCEL taking your money AFTER you cancel them, and who adds up all the bogus charges. The lady on the phone said, ".....oh I'm very surprised that you're not taken off of auto pay". WTF? Had I not called YET AGAIN they would have charged me. The idiots still might. We'll see. If they do they'll regret it.
The moral to this story is this - don't use Spectrum for anything. I heard horror stories worse than mine, and mine is mild in comparison. BUT, they were always throttling my access either during streaming movies on Netflix or YouTube, and I had to move around the house most of the time to even get a signal for internet. I could have paid 35 a month for a WiFi hotspot for my phone and had better service. And for them to jack up the price for their poor service was just a joke in itself. I know the game, they want you to bundle. Well I've got their bundle and they can kiss it.
I think they owe me the 70 back from last month. But because they really don't care about me or you, I'll never see that money again. And because of it, they'll never see me again, ever.
Frontier was really crappy when they took over Verizon, but have since really impressed me by actually being better than Verizon ever was. That's who I'm with now. But Time Warner can change their name, but the stink still follows them. Don't use Spectrum. They have no morals, scruples or values. They just want to take your money, and when you're not looking, they'll take some more. read more
