Took about two hours just to pick up a modem and router. There has to be a better way.

DON'T USE THEM. Billed for a service they couldn't connect. Constant transfer to try to fix the problems.

I moved away and returned all my equipment with my account in good standing. I am owed a refund…read moreand was told that it was mailed on 10/21. They have my correct address because the last statement was sent to me. I am on hold trying to get more information, it has been TWENTY FOUR minutes and I am STILL HOLDING! Good customer service?? I think NOT. FORTY MINUTES later, still no live person. At 59 minutes a LIVE person, who said that all she could do was confirm that the check had been cut on 10/21 and verified the address to which it was mailed. I said is there ANYTHING you can do? And reluctantly she said the case could be forwarded to a supervisor. She did not offer to do that, I had to ASK for it...... Sadly, not too many other options in Grand Junction...... UPDATE 11/7/11 refund check arrived today. It was sent to the correct address but was only cut on 11/2 not on 10/21 as I had been told.

This review is based on Bresnan/Charter Communications Internet Service for my father who lives in…read moreGrand Junction. First, in February 2013, Charter acquired Cablevision's Bresnand Broadband Holdings ("Optimum West") for $1.625 billion in cash. Optimum West manages cable operating systems in Colorado, Montana, Wyoming and Utah that pass more than 660,000 homes and serve 304,000 video subscribers and 366,000 customer relationships. Second, Bresnan should be better off with bigger capital and upgrades with Charter and it appears residents of GJ are getting those planned upgrades as Charter/Bresnan in GJ is rolling out their support of 8x channel bonded modems to increase speeds starting Dec 2014. I gave Bresnan/Charter two stars because the internet speeds for a Cable company should be a MINIMUM 4x the speed of what a copper DSL-line service provides. Although your mileage will vary by your provider, you'll need to evaluate the speeds on your own using 3rd party sites like these: http://myspeed.visualware.com/index.php http://speedof.me/ http://testmy.net/ http://speedtest.net As a result, my father only barely achieved .9Mbit/sec DOWN and 2.4Mbit/sec UPLOAD. That is NO WHERE near the 60Mb/Down and 4Mb/Upload Charter is promising him in his Triple Play Gold package. What that means is he's getting only 1.5% of download speeds promised to him while most DSL providers can give him a service of at least 12Mb/sec down. See the problem here? While this may all change with the upcoming upgrades in 3 weeks, those results are horrible by any cable internet provider.

Run Away as fast as you can!! This is a HORRIBLE company!!! They can ruin your life!!! RUDELY!…read more I had an account with them for over a decade. They have now given me one of the biggest computer nightmares I've ever had. Almost as bad as getting hacked. Recently, my inbox was getting full, so I deleted several thousand emails. They wouldn't go away, so I called customer support. "We'll check." While I was on hold, I watched my computer as the number of emails in my inbox spun very quickly down to zero. They had deleted ALL my emails!!! A decade of my life, GONE!!! When the person came back from hold, she said she would call me back. Two hours later, I finally called her back, and she told me they had accidentally deleted all my emails. No apology. We have no way of recovering them. Me:"What am I supposed to do?" Brainstorm:"You should have had a backup." THEY HAD THE NERVE TO TELL ME I SHOULD HAVE HAD A BACKUP!!! That's their business--keeping people's data safe. And they had no backup themselves, and no procedures in place to prevent deleting a decade of my life in the blink of an eye! Rude beyond imagining. "Can I speak to your supervisor?" "I am the supervisor." "Who can I speak to above you?" "There is no one above me you can talk to." Initially she told me they would give me a year free. I said, they should give me at least a decade free. "We can't do that." "How can I get my emails back?" "I don't know. You probably can't." I thought I had a backup with BackBlaze. BackBlaze backs up your "whole computer", BUT NOT YOUR EMAIL (maybe only if it's IMAP). I was using IMAP because Brainstorm had previously told me that was the only way to have emails on both my computer and the server (so I could see them from other computers while traveling). Turned out switching was a major hassle, and NOT TRUE! I could have simply changed a setting on POP3, but their "technical support" didn't know that. In three months, while I was still hoping to find some way to recover my emails, they called to tell me my account was past due!!! "You owe us money." "You owe me a decade of emails." Still no remorse whatsoever for deleting my emails. "I thought you were giving me a year free." "You turned down that offer." Again, rude and what I would describe as "pissy"! Now, I'm having trouble with other accounts, because my Brainstorm address was listed as backup email address for Google, which won't let me restore my password with them, and GOOGLE HAS NO CUSTOMER SUPPORT WITH A LIVE PERSON AT ALL!!!! If the automated system doesn't work, you are just ****ed! I don't know how many other accounts I will have to close because I no longer have that email address. TELL EVERYONE! DON'T USE BRAINSTORM INTERNET!

This company will lie through their teeth and not come close to what they promise. Seriously,…read moresomeone should file a class action lawsuit against this company for offering services they know they cannot provide. Their customer service system is terrible beyond belief and if you are lucky enough to get a real person, prepare yourself for a frustrating condescending conversation. A typical evening at home trying to stream a single movie is guaranteed to end with a lost connection due to crazy low bandwidth. Absolutely do not sign up with this provider unless you are a glutton for punishment.

So Bad You'll Wonder Why It's Legal…read more This is a long review, but read it all to learn just how bad Dish Network is. The first thing you need to know about Dish Network is that the service they'll really give you is not the service they'll tell you about. Oh, technically it is, but the truth is buried in microscopic print deep in their contract, and they won't tell you the facts up front. Number one, there's a usage cap. In most of the areas where you really need satellite TV and internet, the cap is 20 GB per month - in theory. But the real cap is only half of that: 10 GB/month. This is because the other half is available only between the hours of 2AM and 8AM. Chances are you won't be online a lot at those times, so in the real world you're getting only half as much bandwidth as they'll claim you're getting. But it gets better. A single person with normal internet habits (email, web, social media, the occasional Youtube video) will use about 100MB per day. Someone who uses the internet for business will go through 200 to 300MB per day. At that rate you'll go through that 10GB pretty quickly. A family of four will be lucky to make it through the month. Forget about streaming video services, such as Netflix, Amazon, or Hulu. A single hour of streaming HD video will use up 2 or 3 GB of bandwidth easily. So for most practical purposes you can't use those services at all through Dish Network. Unless you watch streaming video after 2AM you won't have any bandwidth left. You can't use internet phone services such as Skype through Dish, nor can you play online games. The audio quality is terrible and the lag makes online gaming impossible. So right out of the box Dish Network is pretty much useless for most of the things that people use the Internet for these days. If you do anything more than email and a little bit of web surfing you'll constantly be running up against your half-size usage cap. But it's their customer service that takes Dish Network from "Mediocre" straight through "Awful" and into "There Oughta Be a Law." I started using Dish about 3 months ago. I ran into all of the problems I outlined above, and then today my Internet went out. I called Dish tech support, and the tech told me that my wireless router (the router Dish provided) was dead and that it needed to be replaced. After just 3 months. Then he told me that he couldn't help me with that. If I wanted a new router then I would need to go to a store and buy one myself. That's right: Dish Network refuses to service or replace the hardware that they provide. The excuse for this incredible lack of support is that they provide the router "as a courtesy". It is "free of charge" - though the service they do charge for (and a pretty penny they charge) can't be used without the "free" router. And you can bet that the cost of that equipment is covered by their fees one way or another. They aren't taking a loss on it. So, bottom line: Dish Network really gives you only half as much bandwidth as they claim they do. Their Internet service is useless for much of what an ordinary person does with the net. And if your wireless service goes out you must repair or replace it at your own expense. And they will tell you that all of this is a "courtesy." I will be ending my service with these thieves just as soon as I possibly can.
