I'm going to explain in detail why I'm giving this office 1 star.
I came in late July of last year. I had not been to the dentist for a checkup within a year prior mostly because of dissatisfaction with the ones I'd been to previously (not problems per se, just not super satisfied). I tried going to this one since it's within walking distance of work and my gf had a filling successfully replaced.
She said it was pricy, but they got the job done so I went ahead and made an appt. Boy was that a mistake.
I was looked at by Dr Sanaz Seifi first. She told me after just a few minutes that I had 4 cavities that needed to be filled ASAP and that I needed a deep cleaning. I was practically beside myself because I had told them that I NEVER had a cavity before that day. I was 26 at the time, by the way. Both her and the front desk lady Bahar ignored that statement, though. That should've been my sign to leave, but I took their word for it because, hey, I hadn't been to the dentist for a year and these are professionals, right? So I let them do the first filling that day with a follow up for the week after to get my deep cleaning and to do another filling.
Anyway, Dr Seifi had another patient to work on so they sent in Dr. Behnaz Sharifi to do my filling instead. This was probably the worst doctor I've ever met. First of all, she was 8 months pregnant and was getting occasional episodes of discomfort which should be reason enough to not work. She did a seriously terrible job administering the anesthesia...it was SUPER painful and i was crying a river on each shot. During the procedure she would have to get up and walk around due to her discomfort. She always made sure to leave the suction in my mouth when she did this, by the way. After I got home and the anesthesia wore off, I discovered that the tooth she filled was now experiencing pain whenever I bit down on something crunchy OR whenever I flossed next to that tooth. Ironic, because I had zero pain in that tooth (or any of my teeth) beforehand and now I had this new harmful sensation while chewing or flossing, which seemed to be the result of a sloppy job.
I went in the next weekend for my follow up. First of all, Dr Sharifi didn't even remember which tooth she filled. She then proceeded to laugh about the fact that she forgot and told her coworkers something along the lines of , "haha, I forgot which tooth I filled and look at how nervous he got." Great. I told her about the problems I had with the filling and she tried a bunch of quick fixes that didn't work. She ended up re-doing it (crappy job doing the anesthesia again, btw) and during the procedure Dr Seifi, comes in and tells me that they decided not to do any of the other fillings (HMMM I WONDER WHY). Just to top it all off, I left the office with bloody gums because Dr Sharifi, again, did a sloppy job this time with the deep cleaning.
My flossing problem went away, but I still had pain biting tough/crunchy food with the filled tooth. I went back several times to get the problem looked at. Luckily, I got Dr Seifi in my subsequent visits, who was so good at administering the anesthesia that I felt nothing at all. She couldn't figure out what was causing the problem, though. She kept saying she would research it and ask colleagues, but she never did as far as I know (or she never told me about it).
To top off all these problems, they went through all of my insurance money AND charged me several hundred out of pocket. So basically, I paid them to give me dental problems.
YES, I have thought about legal action. I'm in the middle of going to a different dentist to get this problem fixed. That dentist looked at my teeth and said that, yes, I have high cusps which could be interpreted as cavities, but he said that filling them would do more harm than good. He also found cracks on the tooth that was filled, but told me that spectrum dentistry could have a defense against me because it's hard to prove where exactly the cracks came from. This dentist I'm seeing now isn't totally finished with his work fixing my problem so I'm not going to review that one until I'm done there. So far, I've had to get a crown on my tooth because of the cracks he found.
Long story short: don't go to spectrum dentistry. They will charge you a lot of money and they won't do a good job. Well, maybe they will if you don't get Dr Behnaz Sharifi.
Dr Seifi does not seem to lack skill, but I'm not going to recommend her because she was the person who recommended the fillings I didn't need.
Dr Sharifi was just horrible all around. Botched the filling, did a poor deep cleaning job, and was working while she was clearly not able to do so. That says a lot about her judgment.
If you look at their website (www.spectrumdentistry.com) it seems like Dr Seifi isn't listed. No idea what's going on there, but just another reason to stay away IMO. read more
