What should have been a routine phone upgrade turned into a devastating experience due to poor management and complete lack of accountability. I came in on a Thursday to transfer data from my old phone to a new one. Diana, the employee who initially helped me, was kind and genuinely tried to assist. A coworker even called me later that evening with an update after Diana had left. At that point, I still felt hopeful. Everything fell apart when the situation was handed off to the store manager. When I returned the next morning, the manager had no idea who I was or what had been going on. Despite me calmly explaining the situation and how critical my data was, he was dismissive, condescending, and clearly uninterested in helping. I was told nothing could be done. Canceling the transaction would take hours and would cost me a $50 restocking fee. Pressed for time and needing to return to Lincoln City, I felt forced to proceed based on his assurance that once an update was initiated, everything from my old phone would appear on the new one. I explicitly begged him not to erase my old phone until I could confirm the transfer was complete. He told me that was "not possible." It turns out my cloud backup only went through 2020. I lost the last five years of my life: irreplaceable photos of friends and family members who have since passed, critical text messages for my vacation rental business, and important documents saved on my phone. All gone. This loss is permanent. It was completely avoidable. And it was made worse by a manager who showed zero empathy, professionalism, or care. I am sharing this so others understand the risk. There's a lot of yowling about Spectrum service on the Oregon Northcoast with admonitions not to use them and lots of exclamations marks. But if you want reliable cable service and fast internet access, there are no other choices; satellite services have TV but their internet access is essentially a telephone line. Spectrum/Charter is NOT Comcast, but it's what is available west of the Coastal Range; it's just another trade-off you make when you move to the Coast. Work with the reality of circumstances and your life will smooth out quite a bit. My remote went in-op and the Spectrum Astoria office is a 35 mile one-way trip; I called the toll-free number and they said I could exchange it for a new one at the Astoria office or Spectrum would overnight me a new one, delivery the next day by FedEx. Do a 70 mile round-trip in the rain and wind or wait until tomorrow for FedEx to show up? Easy decision. The Spectrum customer service rep was courteous, engaging and had the problem solved in less than five minutes. Considering the challenges of servicing this area, it's easy to give them five stars on this one. Ignore all the snarky comments about how bad Spectrum is -- they're pretty damn good and so is their service. read more

Trust me, their stripes did not change as this company is out to screw you! They will sign you up for a internet service deal that sounds too good to be true, because it is! Let me explain, I have a second home in Seaside and 6 months ago received an increase from $39.99 to $69.99 monthly. I called customer service to see about other options before changing ISPs and was informed my usage qualified for a "seasonal rate" which was explained as ideal for second homes. $11.99 a month! .......great rate for weekend usage, right? I accepted the offer and; Today, 6 months later I received a bill for $78.86 and am raised to $64.99 a month plan for 30MBPS! I called customer service to inquire about the increase and after being on infinite hold, was finally answered by an agent that english was not her primary language. I could not understand her rapid chatter! I painfully asked her for another agent and was directed to hang up and call back. This company is the last company you want to contract for anything unless you truly enjoy a painful experience like buying a used car, chapped lips or getting a root canal at the dentist! The rest of the story is: I said shut off the service and then the monthly offer was dropped to $44.99. (which was explained as the new customer rate) If I accepted that deal I would have to go through this ordeal again in 6 months! My most recent of many bad experiences was we requested Internet service at our new home it took them almost 3 weeks to fit us in. Then when they showed up to the appointment they said we didn't come to install anything we just wanted to make sure there was a house here. Then they left and rescheduled an appointment with us for a week later. We would use a different company if we had an option but this is the only company in our area. read more

I wish I could give less than 1 star! The service we have is constantly in and out. Usually it is ONLY once a week, but it has been a daily occurrence recently. The service doesn't go out for a minute or two, but for 4 to 16 hours at a time. All repair service is contracted out of house and these contractors only seem to work from 9am to 5pm. Each night at 11pm this week, the service goes out. SOL....gotta pull out the dvd player and dust off the disks if you hope to relax for the evening. We pay more and get far crappier service in our small community and don't have any provider competition. Way to go antitrust laws...we're all so much better off. read more

I did a self install in two houses in Seaside and the person who helped me on the phone was horrible and ordered the wrong number of cable boxes and some how turned off the signal to my current boxes . After many hours on the phone trying to correct the problem, things finally worked. I self installed 5 boxes and was grateful that they sent me two extra boxes so that I could piece together the 5 sets that I needed, some were missing remotes, some were missing cox cable lines.... But the reason that I am giving it a 4 star is because when I drove to Astoria, ( expecting the worst), I had the pleasure of working with a woman named Willow, who was so pleasant and really willing to help sort everything out. She was patient and very helpful. There were two people in front of me but she seemed to handle them in the same positive way. I am going back to take the phone modem back because I don't need a land line any longer and I look forward to seeing Willow again. Sometimes, if you are pleasant to people, they will be pleasant back and I want to thank Willow for her very friendly and professional attitude, it helped erase the other negative experiences I had with the company in the prior week. read more

Dreadful. My home is fairly new, about five years old and is prewired for cable. The previous owner also received Charter cable TV/internet. I called Charter to restart service. They came to my home and I watched their technician cut off the previously used cable connector. Then he was unable to replace it correctly. He said that he would research the problem and return. Went to go return my cable boxes at the location in Astoria at 1pm on a Tuesday-the times on the door were clearly and largely posted that they were open Mon-Sat until 6pm. The door was locked and the lone employee inside ran to hide behind a computer so he would not have to deal with me apparently. I'm ok with lunch breaks, but please have them posted and at least come to the door and let me know you are on lunch (and when I should come back!!) instead of rudely ignoring me while I'm balancing 3 cable boxes/cords/remotes in the pouring rain at a time when you are supposed to be open. As far ad I'm concerned they have broken the contract with their hidden fees and I'm returning their equipment asap. Also I called their support and following their directory to get to billing and payments the gal says I'm at the wrong department and attempts to transfer me but only to a recording telling me to call back another time. So Cable companies have horrible customer service. That is a fact. it's not arguable, and it is backed up with lots of data. So I won't go over how incredibly bad Charter is. What I will go over is why I killed my cable service. So after a year, your bill jumps up with any provider. Normally you can call and negotiate something better than what it switches you to. So I called Charter and said "Hey, I see my bill jumped up, can you hook me up with any special offers?" She said "Nope". At that point I said, thanks and called Directv and set up service for cable. I've had DTV before and I've had nothing but positive experiences with them, so I had no issues with switching. Once that was done I called Charter to cancel cable. I kept the internet because it's fast and reliable and I don't need to worry about my bill jumping up. It's 60.00 bucks pretty much without fail. At this point I got put on with Charter's wonderful "disconnect your service" line. This is where you have to battle with some dipshit to actually disconnect your service. You have to listen to bullshit continually spill forth about how switching is stupid and you'll be back and it will cost the same in the end....blah blah blah. I shut that down pretty quick but still it was 30 minutes of my life I will never get back. I will tell you this, Charter lost my business because they try to charge too much for outdated equipment, poor picture quality, and horrible service. Instead I switched to my other provider and have state of the art equipment, better picture, better service, and an infinitely more user friendly experience altogether. Yes it is a 2 year contract, but if you really hated it, you could call Charter up and set up service with them again and they would pay the disconnect fee that Directv has...that was something that the lady on the phone told me about 30 times. 2 weeks, 4 technician's later, and I still have crappy download speed, and cannot live chat. We are in a brand new home, we have under ground fiber optic cables, so we should have no issues. I have had 4 tech.'s come to the house and still do not have the service we ordered. WTH is so hard about getting decent signal ? When you tell me it's easy to install, that means I have to install, not the company, so of course it's free......... free to them.....My husband worked for Dish satellite for over 20 year's, we know how to install these product's, but first you have to have a WORKING product !! Not unit's from the 1980's. 2 weeks and still waiting for service .......oh but they offered us a whole $10 coupon. Seriously ? $10 ? You have got to be kidding me. ..... So we just moved to Ocean Park Washington and decided we needed internet and tv. We called spectrum to have service installed. We got an appointment they came out and said they couldn't do it that day because they needed to drop a line. They told me it would be done that Thursday Feb 1st Wednesday they call me and tell me it will not be installed until April 18th. Aside from the one guy that came out every other person we talked to was cold and obviously could care less about customer service. One person who claimed to be management told me "well sir it is what it is, have a good day". That's the way this company treats perspective customers? If that's the case, I feel sorry for any individual that has to try to get them to do anything. Thanks for absolutely nothing Spectrum. Thankfully they aren't the only high speed internet provider in town. I guess it's time to call their competition and give Fios a try. My grievance is not with the Astoria branch. It is with Charter Communications. I just had to get a cable box because apparently everything is going digital. Originally, I was just connected straight into the wall. The channel selection wasn't great but there were a few good networks that I enjoyed: TBS, MSNBC, The Esquire Network, and sometimes truTV. I have had these channels for years but now, with this new cable box, Charter has not only eliminated all of those channels, but they have added 6 Spanish speaking channels, 4 religious channels, and 2 terrible radio stations! I don't speak Spanish, I'm not religious, and I own an Ipod. Seriously?! What am I paying for? If I were you, I would look at other options for cable television. read more

My mother in law was required to be put into assisted living. My husband, who is her legal guardian within weeks experienced a brain aneurysm. I tried to shut off her service, but charter cable maintain their equipment must be returned in order to cancel service. We do not live near the equipment, he is on life support, she has dementia. Worse service of ANY company I have done business with. I could write a book about the poor service. Here is the latest. We have Charter at a vacation house. They absolutely refuse to do any device calls on weekends. We had to go in person to pick up our cable box and waited three years until we could be there m-f. We explained how difficult it was for us to make apointments. We pay every month for a service we use only when we visit the house. All of this clearly explained to them. We decided to add Internet, so we could get a service call on the weekend. I guess paying $65 per month you cannot get a service call, but if you want to give them more $ they make it work. They said they would be at the house between 3-5. Short story. Cable box we waited 3 years for does not work, no help from customer service. They Never made the scheduled appointment. We called at 5 and they assured us they were on the way. An hour later no show. They blew it off. Even knowing how difficult it is for us to make this happen. We are sitting with a broken cable box, no Internet, and NO solution from them. Said things like we can TRY and work you in sometime. I understand the product is good, but if you can get TV and Internet from any other source do it. Stay away from this company at all costs. Century Link has DSL and I have seen direct tv vans installing satellite around. This company knows they have a monopoly and do not mind reminding you of that. Charter sucks. No other way to say it. Tricked me into upgrading my service from residential telling me I had a problem with my hardware and would take 5-7 days to fix but would be next day service if I upgraded to business which was twice as much per month! Because the phone is very important I agreed to upgrade. The next day admitted it was their problem but I decided I would upgrade for better service. I have now been waiting 14 days! Yes 14 days to get my phone number back!!!! I have 7 open ticket numbers, 2 empty promises that a supervisor would call me back, and even had two sales calls from Charter to sell me more service and when I calmly explained to the second one that it had been 10 days since my problem started...he hung up on me!!! I will see this through to the end and take all my complaints to the better business bureau! I will then file a fraud claim with the department of justice! But as of today, still no solution! Charter TV service is terrible. If there was a minus star rating I would give them a minus 3. The TV service was intermittent and unreliable. Then a couple months ago they changed our package without telling us, cutting out the one channel we wanted most. Today the worthless tech arrived to waste more of our time. He told us the channel we want is no longer on our package. Then a rep on the phone told me it is on our package. A while later another Charter person called and said it wasn`t. I called yet again, got a rep and said give me your supervisor. The supervisor told me the Tennis Channel is on our package. That`s two saying it`s on, and two saying it is not. Now they want to send another tech tomorrow. Wish I had never heard of Charter Cable.
