Last summer we had a gas line leak outside the house. I called to report smelling gas and they responded immediately sending a tech out within the hour to assess. The tech shut down the lines and instructed me on how to coordinate with the gas company. I really appreciate having this company on our side and highly recommend them. Portland Water Bureau said it wasn't their problem. So I called Sutherland Plumbing randomly, and we did some trouble shooting over the phone. It looked like it may be a VERY expensive issue in the pipe between the house and the street. Ti Sutherland found a time to come by, since this was kind of an emergency since we couldn't shower, and he found the problem in just a couple of minutes. Turned out it was only the HOT water that was being stopped, and it was a janky flood prevention device that had been installed with the water heater. The batteries died and it shut off the flow. AND I was billed $82 for the parts. if I picked them up at the store myself, it would have been about $35 - $40. So far, I've only found 3 reputable contractors on the peninsula. I know how to do the projects, but I wanted a few off my list. I feel sorry for the folks who are stuck paying for this crap because they don't have the skills. I can't imagine what I would have been billed if I rescheduled the two showers. Never call Belks or Taft again.
