Would never do business with again.....Word of Caution: do a thorough parts inventory when you package arrives and be sure not to destroy the packaging..........I ordered some parts to rebuild my 4-speed transmission in my 40, from the larger box I pulled out the smaller box and items I could see. I assumed that the syncroring's were in the smaller box, did not think anything of it. Fast forward to installation, like 3 days later and they were not in there, called Specter, they took the route that it was my fault, as they claim that because they scan barcodes it would be impossible for them to ever mess up. I had to pay for them again to get them to ship the replacement, did not even offer to help with shipping, did not really care at all honestly. I will never ever do business again with SPECTRA OFF ROAD. I've been doing business with them with 3 Landcruiser's since 1990's. I'll spread the word on forums and in my dealings around the globe. When you tell Spectra Off Road that their part is faulty immediately after installation, but I could not get to the part due to the existing restoration. I simply put them on notice, really out of courtesy until I had a chance to inspect the part myself. They could have told me about the warranty period if that was an issue. But they said ok and knew what was going on. When I called them back after receiving the part and personally inspecting the part did I say I'll have to return it for a refund or apply the cost of the part as a credit. THEY SAID SINCE IT WAS BEYOND 30 DAYS THE PART WAS OUT OF THE WARRANTY PERIOD! I said if you do this I'll never ever do business with you again. They said if you want to be that way, so be it, and did not care!! Typical California company attitude. I used to live in SoCal back in the 1980's! It was a great place back then but not anymore! I used to be a raving fan and have spend thousands of dollars with them over the last years. That all changed when Mark called me today regarding a return and accused me of lying to him. I purchased 6 injectors for my FJ62 and they delivered in a timely manner. Once my team and I ( I am in automotive) installed the injectors three cylinders wouldn't fire. I called mark and he graciously offered to overnight me three more. These ones worked so I sent others back. Mark called me once he received the injectors came back to him, his tech applied electricity to them and said that they "worked". Keep in mind he didn't take half the day to install them into a truck to see if they worked and their company didn't even do the rebuild themselves! He and his team told me they believed that my techs fixed something else and lied to me about what was actually done. I have never been so insulted! Why would my team or I try to cheat specter out of free shipping? I have better things to do than that! When I told mark I had confidence in my techs and they were as good as his he told me "I'd bet 20 paychecks on that"! Even though they aren't a Toyota dealer they do represent the Toyota brand and should stand for exemplary customer service. Maybe he was having a bad day but this is uncalled for. 9/19. I was called by Paul at specter and thought they were going to apologize and no hard feelings. To my surprise they basically called me to have me admit I was wrong and that I should be responsible for the free shipping they voluntarily gave me that I didn't ask for. Unbelievable! I purchased upholstery for my FJ40 and have already had to contact them twice for issues. 1) The wires they sent were the wrong size. First they informed me that they have sold over 50 of them and nobody else has complained. When I persisted, he went and opened the kit and came back and said "oh yeah I see what you mean." He had to send me two new wires and I had to cut 4 of the ones they sent me to get them to the right size. 2) upon installation the upholstery ripped. I sent them a photo and they informed me that their product "is not prone to tearing." In reading the reviews I see that I am not the only one with this experience. I was told to return it for a quote on repairing it. I was also told that if it appeared that I pulled too hard during installation than I would be responsible for the repair. Their products are "pit bull" tested yet you have to be gentile with them when installing? I pulled it only as much as I had to in order to get it to cover the frame. The attitude on the phone leaves something to be desired. Clearly this company has no interest in customer service. Unfortunately the resources for old landcruisers are limited so they can provide crappy products and crappier customer service and stay alive. read more

I ordered a weber carburetor from this company. Please beware the carburetors that they are selling are not weber carburetors. They are a "weber type carburetor" and they are cheap knock off made in China. The owner of the company I hear died a few years ago and ever since then the company has gone in the wrong direction. Please be aware of this company. The customer service guy was very rude. Refused to give me some reimbursement. I called them a few weeks ago after I got the the carburetor and they were playing dumb that they didn't know what I was talking about. Be careful with this company be so warned. read more

I own a shop in Escondido and have been working with a 1971 Land Cruiser, doing some suspension mod's. We ran into some snags with parts that were not able to be put together so I did some homework and called Specter and spoke with Mario. What a great place. Was overwhelmed at the amount of parts at this massive location. I just purchased a new engine for my 1974 FJ, and they were so helpful and honest. I definitely did not feel like I was taken in anyway or over-sold. One of the mechanics actually went out of his way to help stripped-down my original motor that I brought in and made sure that the new motor had everything on it before I left the driveway. For years, I've always had trouble finding parts for my old engine. I hate having to go to the auto parts store asking for a 1974 part. They always look at me like I'm asking them to split the atom. They do you have an incredible inventory, and great knowledge of these vehicles. In this day and age of customer reviews, where the consumer has some voice based on making their experiences public, you would think that this kind of thing would be kept to a minimum. The conversation lasted about 3 minutes, within 1 minute it had escalated. The brief phone exchange with him left me uncomfortable. All I wanted was a simple clarification on a part number, as this contains information to get the right part because ordering online says 'no returns' on special orders. So it is important to know exactly what one is buying. From the moment I asked, he seemed annoyed with the question.
