Late review, but finally getting around to it. I had Docs Garage do an electrical overhaul on my 1967 Chevrolet Camaro RS in Nov of 2021. I had them fix my rear tail lights, install a complete radio system, fix my interior courtesy lights, glove box light, replace my vacuum controlled broken hideaway headlight system with an electrically powered one, and fix my blinking headlights that wouldn't always stay on with the car. All of that was done to the tune of $4,190. I knew that this was a lot of work and a high price to pay. But I had given them a complete call sheet of the repairs necessary and set my appointment a few weeks out to complete. So why the 2 stars? My biggest concern with the car at the time was nighttime driving. Not having my headlights working properly was gambling with the safety of doing that. When I picked up the car I was pretty much right away given a disclaimer that "the headlights weren't working a 100% and might need to be totally re-wired..." Which I found a pretty odd thing to say to a customer after I'm supposed to be picking it up fixed. That was a priority to repair and they had to already completely remove the headlights to install the electrically operated hide-away headlight system. Not only that, but they forgot to repair a broken hinge in the headlight system that I had given them a new replacement part for. This would have taken 1/4 of the time to do with the headlight assembly already removed from the car. Pretty much within a week off the lot I started to notice my headlights blinking again at random worse than when I dropped the car off. I lived with the car like this for almost a year before I finally found a local auto electrician to fix them for $500. They informed me that both headlights were improperly grounded and they put in my replacement hinge Doc's forgot. Seeing how I paid at Doc's $500 for troubleshoot and diagnostic, $1000 for the hideaway headlight swap, and an other $500 for "repairing of faulty headlight connections and grounds" , only now I know I way overpaid for service that was done incorrectly. They did a great job with the radio, all the other electrical repairs, and the car was delivered back to me cleaner and detailed more than any other mechanic has ever returned the car. I just wish they had spent less time detailing the car and more time on the headlights. For paying $2K alone to work with the headlights, they should have been correctly wired. read more

This review is years coming but I am still dealing with the sub par work that was done by Doc's. As said by another person, Jason is a nice guy but that is not why a person comes to him for work. My car had a new transmission, air conditioning, power steering, electronic dash gauges for speedometer and fuel etc. The A/C never worked right and have since found the bracket that holds the compressor is not properly installed. Both the fuel gauge and the speedometer failed almost immediately. There a two other issues that will not be mentioned as I can't be sure if it was Doc's or the paint shop next to him that caused one. I only wrote this because after all this time and money spent I am still dealing with these problems. read more

Hot Rodders tend to be good mechanics, and car geeks. These guys are both, and although the shop might be difficult to find, and you'll drive down a narrow alley bounded on one side by an array of various hot rods and restorations in progress, I can assure you it's worth your time. In my case, I can't afford a hot rod. I can't afford a restoration, but I do need somebody that I can rely upon to work on my old truck and make it right. Jason and his crew of wild-eyed fanatics have done excellent work on my "beat up old truck", which is purring like a kitten and just turned 300,000 miles. So, take it from me: whether you've got a project to resto-mod something into a 500 horsepower show car, or 165 horsepower working heirloom, this is a garage you should check out. Let me start off by saying that Jason is a good guy and a cool person to talk shop with... To start it off, we had a discussion on how the project (LSx swap into 1st Gen Camaro) finances would be handled. He gave me a fair overall estimate, I would pay bi-weekly and he would update me as the project went along as to avoid a snowball bill at the end. We were on the same page, then. I added a few additional options here and there which of course added a few thousand to the total cost ($12k). During the first few months progress came in pretty regularly and we kept good communication. There are a few delays but the car seemed to be coming along. I visited the shop here and there and everything seemed well. But as the months rolled by, the bill kept getting larger and larger to the point where it's passed the original estimate and we weren't even halfway finished yet. Must be a fluke I thought as he hasn't mentioned to me that he can't finish the car for anywhere near the original estimate or I would've simply pulled my car out and bring it back when I could afford it. Came to pick up the car and the final bill was nearly TWICE THE ORIGINAL ESTIMATE ($19k). The bill didn't even break down the work hours for each job. There was no way to gauge whether they billed me too much for a certain task. I understand that this is all custom work and that sometimes it takes longer to do a certain job due to unforeseen difficulties but there wasn't anyway to account for anything on the bill besides part costs. We had a talk about it and we came to an agreement to knock off a few thousand to be fair to both parties (revised to $16k). At this point I was pretty upset having to spend way more money than I envisioned but whatever, the work was done. Wrong. The first day I picked up the car, it nearly overheated. Pulled over and gave Jason a call. His answer? "Oops I forgot to fill the radiator all the way, my bad." He also forgot to wire up the reverse lights like I asked. When it did get wired up, it was too short to place underneath the carpet. The radiator fan would also come on at varying temperatures sometimes bordering on overheating which I thought was due to the separate fan controller. I asked him to please have the ECU control the radiator fan but I was completely ignored several times. He also didn't have a fuel filter installed which I had to install myself later. My C&R radiator also later failed due to heavy electrolysis only after a few months. When I called to ask him about it he said, "I can't believe I forgot to install an anode. I usually do for all my aluminum radiators specifically because of the electrolysis. See if Summit will give you an exchange." Now I'm stuck trying to save up for another radiator while I'm still struggling to pay off the original bill. All while my car sits in my garage. See the common theme here? When I asked him about why the costs exploded he basically said that it was because he didn't have anyone to help with him the books. Guess I gotta pay for the mistakes that come out of that. I would've liked to give the shop at least a 4/5 stars because for the most part I had a positive experience even with the insane bill at the end but I payed a lot of money to have my car running yet I'm STILL dealing with issues to this day. Well sometimes things just happen for an unknown reason. I have several cars. One day a few years ago my 64 Chrysler had some electrical problems. Needed a complete re-wire for a 70's era Toyota Landcruiser (FJ40). It had been modified extensively by previous builder including a Chevy V8 engine swap and EFI. Wiring and electrical systems were a nightmare. I wanted to go with someone who really knew what they were doing when it comes to a rewrire as I wanted to ensure future maintain-ability, reliability and improved aesthetics. Doc's Garage nailed it. I was expecting all of the above but also ended up with more horsepower and responsiveness in the throttle due to an upgraded EFI setup that also eliminated a rat's nest of wires and ECU box that took up too much space in engine bay and behind the dash. In addition to the rewire, Jason provided great recommendations along the way and anticipated what I would want (do what I mean, not what I say). As an example, I requested the addition of a full length light bar for the top of the windshield. Instead of the standard, bulky bars you see everywhere that almost look like a windshield visor, he found a bar that had a much smaller form factor that fit right up under the lip of the roof so you can hardly see it. I've had a couple minor issues in the last couple months and he's been very helpful in answering my questions and helping me to sort it out. He does full hot rod and classic restorations that I'm sure are spectacular but for anything electrical, hands down the most professional and skilled in the business. read more

Couldn't have had a better experience with Doc's Garage. Being a female and trying to restore my classic has had its obvious challenges. Needless to say, I was ripped off many times and became discouraged by the whole restoration process. I had my original 1954 Olds radio converted back in 2013. It's been sitting in my closet since then because I could not trust anyone to install my radio properly. Once I found a trusted mechanic, my car was running once again. It was finally time to get my radio installed. I found Doc's Garage through a Google search. I had to make sure that I could trust him with my radio. I had gotten estimates from other radio guys who either scoffed at me or tried to upsell me on more of a system than I originally wanted. Jason, on the other hand, listened to exactly what I wanted, did not try to upsell me, and did not patronize me because I was female. To be completely sure, I corresponded with Jason via phone and email a few more times and also had my husband talk to him too. We both agreed that Jason was the right person to handle the job. On top of the installation of my radio and new speakers, he fixed the dome light, re-wired the dash, as well as fixed a serious brake issue. (I had taken the car to 2 other mechanics who mickey-moused the brake repair, and also failed to tell me how dangerous it was to be driving the car at all!) Anyway, I was expecting the final invoice to be double based on the services he performed but it wasn't! My car was with him for a week because I had no time to pick it up immediately. After researching which electric re-wiring auto shop I should take my 1939 Chevrolet Master Deluxe. I chose Doc's Garage and I am more than glad I did. Doc re-wired my vehicle in a professional and first cabin style. The work was clean and neat. He installed an electric braking system and an electric power steering conversion system. The workmanship and subsequent driving of the vehicle was outstanding. Doc also replaced my old carburetor with a new one which made all the difference in performance. Doc addressed many other issues I had with my classic. He always called me to discuss the work before he performed it, great customer communication! All of the work Doc performed was first class.
