The column clutch to my '68 Ford Falcon has been sticking for several years; sometimes I couldn't get it into first gear or reverse. I thought it meant the need to replace the socket in the column. No one would work on it. Finally someone recommended Automotive Classics. When Frank looked at the part I brought, he thought it wasn't enough: It needed other parts too. Then, noting the struggle to get it into first gear, he asked to open the hood. He looked at the gears. He went to get something: a tall thin can that looked red to me. As he sprayed he told me to keep shifting the clutch. Then he told me to drive around the block. It was better, but would it last? Just get out some WD-40 and spray the gears, he said. So the engine to my beloved 1948 Chevy Fleetline Aerosedan had the unfortunate mishap of all unfortunate mishaps and required a complete replacement. The whole situation made me sick to my stomach. I, however, did feel extremely fortunate to have discovered this business at a time when I needed such a place the most. I felt comforted by the fact that they seem to almost only work on classic cars. Those who understand classic cars, tend to understand their owners and the higher level of scrutiny that comes with them. During the fix Frank made suggestions for things I could do when I expressed a desire for my engine compartment to look more show-worthy. Some things he took upon himself like cleaning up the the haphazard-looking wiring done by a previous owner. There was a bump in the road late in the fix when it came to my intention that I was missing a couple necessary parts. Frank worked with me to get the parts purchased and get my car back to me while somehow not pushing the estimated time of completion another day. Anyways, I couldn't be happier with the result of this extensive repair. I felt the work was done with care and by professionals with undeniable knowledge of their craft. The staff is friendly. The owner, Frank, is very blunt, which is something that I personally appreciate. He can be very short with you when you speak with him, in a way that lacks the customer service touch. I normally do not leave bad reviews but seriously could not stomach the type of business conducted here. After looking online and reading reviews it sounded life a great match. I had called the week before and they had told me to schedule a time, which I did. Upon showing up, there were 3 other customers and Frank was very kind in showing and providing them the time they needed so I felt like this was the kind of shop that cares. Well, we met and I told him what I needed and he told me he will need the car of 1-2 days to do a full inspection of the damage. I found that odd at first but was like ok, sounds like he does quality work. I told him I will have to come back another day as I have to make arrangements, wish he could of told me this on the phone, but whatever. I call back in a week and spoke to someone to let them know I was coming on Wednesday at 1, something came up so I called them Wednesday and let them know I would be there Thursday morning and again was confirmed that that was fine. But when I showed up and met Frank I told him I was there to drop off my car and he looked at me like I was crazy. I told him that I had called twice and spoken to 2 different people, he said, oh yeah, that was my daughter and my probably my son, but they didn't tell me anything. Well, I said, I still need an appraisal and I already had a driver waiting for me outside. He informs me that his appraisal guy was not there today and that it will just be sitting till Monday. I said no worries and that I'll just be back Monday morning. Monday, I drop it off and leave them all my info and insurance contacts. Wednesday, I get a call saying that the appraisal was complete but that they lost the paperwork and if I could provide them the insurance and claim number. I gave it to them then asked how long it would take for the insurance to approve everything for them to start. 10-15 days the girl had said and I said great, I'll swing by to get my car and for them to call me when everything gets approved so that they can start. I hear someone yell in the background "It doesn't work that way" So I said, excuse me... Long story short, lol, Frank tells me that they have to keep my car until Hagerty approves the work and then they can start working on the car. I had told him in the beginning that this was my Daily Driver and that he had told me he needed it for 1-2 days just to do an appraisal. I had no problems with that, nor would have if he had told me that in the beginning. He then accused me of trying to "Burn Him" by getting him to do the appraisal then not coming back. I was taken back a bit by his accusations and could not believe the unprofessionalism from the start! He's telling me my car would sit for 10-15 days until he gets an approval to start then would need approx. 4-6 weeks to do the work. My gut feeling told me to stay away, but the cars I saw at his shop looked good. In the end, I told him to not do anything as far as paperwork goes and that I would be there to pick up my car and go elsewhere! Even when I went there to pick up my car he avoided me. So I went up to him and told him that the only reason why I was not staying there is because he was dishonest, disorganized and untrustworthy. If he would of told me that he would need to keep my car there from the start it wouldn't have been a problem. However he just brushed it off and shrugged his shoulders... STAY AWAY.... read more

I took my '62 Lincoln Continental for engine work to Frank. From the get go, I could tell Frank knew his stuff. We discussed all the issues the engine was having even though I had taken it to have it serviced by another shop in the area. I put my trust in Frank and he didn't disappoint. Frank chased every issue from the carburetor to the intake manifold, to cleaning all the build up on the top of the block, to swapping out the points in the distributor, to junking out the generator for an alternator, to painting everything he removed and cleaned, to creating a bracket to support the ignition coil that the other shop had broken and placed to the side. I adopted a 67 chevy truck that was dying on me on the freeway, in intersections, and while turning. I knew I'd be dead soon if I didn't get it fixed. Frank rebuilt the carburetor, gave her a general tuneup, and did everything necessary to keep me alive. Months later, the truck starts immediately, without the need to fiddle with the choke or gas, and runs with absolutely no problems. Extremely disappointed in you Frank honestly you should be ashamed of yourself and your business. I brought my classic truck over to Frank because it was pulling really hard to the right when I was braking although the brakes were working fine. Long story short a few bolts were missing in my subframe causing a "bolt in" bracket to move and flex. Instead of just replacing nuts and bolts and snugging it down Frank decided to weld the bolt in bracket to my classic truck's frame without asking. He called to tell me how much it would cost and said around $500 dollars to get me sorted, the next day I go to pick up my truck and his son tell me my bills $1,000. I look at the computer invoice and there is nothing listed on the work order it says "oil change filter" so I go to his main mechanic and I ask him to show me what he did and turns out Frank decided to weld the bracket. Not only do the welds look like a 3 year old did it but it major amateur hours work. Cold welds looks like a tweaker did them. This is now way more work to back track than I needed to begin with. You cannot just decide to do what you think it right without asking my permission. You'll be seeing a letter shortly from small claims court. I HIGHLY DO NOT RECOMMEND TAKING YOUR VEHICLE TO THIS PRICK. An attitude and you weld like trash? Who do you think you are. read more

We made our way to Automotive Classics after struggling to find someone to work on our 1969 Mustang. We pulled up to Frank's shop without an advanced phone call and he came out to greet us even though he was very busy. We talked him through some of the items we wanted fixed (windows, regulators and a few more items) and as we were talking through the issues he was able to diagnosis an issue with our electrical and fuel system and fix them on the spot... I was dumbstruck at the difference in service that I got from AC and all other mechanics. They fixed all of the issues I had by the next day. I have been taking my 1963 Ford Falcon to Automotive Classics for the past 11 years. When I call I say, "hey Frank it's Heather with the Falcon" and he knows who I am. I have gotten to know him and his family and this shop is the ultimate family business you can trust. All the work I've ever had done is excellent and guaranteed. Today I dropped by, without a call, because multiple people said my tail lights weren't working. Frank stopped everything he was doing, fixed my tail lights, rear shock, oil change, pulled out a screw in my tire that was causing me stress and listed to my sad tragic life story about how I've neglected my car cause I'm financially broke. I handed him my credit card when he was done, which I have done many times over the years since this is my only car, to which he said don't worry about it, "you've been a good customer all these years". There aren't enough stars on Yelp to say how wonderful Frank is as businessman or person. I couldn't agree with the other two reviewers more. The prior owner was great, Frank stepped it up a notch. First, he took my 1957 thunderbird and did a significant amount of work on it. The price was really fair, but he did it with love and care and the motor looks like an amazing classic now. He really beautified this car under the hood and that was above and beyond service. By the way I drove it from his shop to San Francisco and it ran flawlessly! 53 years old and absolutely the coolest car on the road we were driving on. Next I brought in my daughter's Scion. It had a bad squeak when the AC was running. Long story short it was not easy but it was Man vs Machine and Frank was committed to getting it right. It took a couple extra days but my daughter is driving to Colorado and now I am worry free. read more

Under new ownership since about 4/2010. Previous owner was great. He was trustworthy, charged reasonable prices, car was ready on time. I could not ask for more. But the new owner, Frank, manages to improve upon the previous owner's reputation !! I have a 2001 CRV Honda needing a 90,000 mile tune up, timing belt, etc. He not only did the job well, but detected other belts which were cracked. He charged me reasonable rates for the additional stuff too. He kept all of my parts so he could show me what was replaced. He also had my car washed (which was no small task since my car was filthy on the outside!) . But the icing was he also cleaned everything under the hood!! The engine area looked new ! Frank shows pride in his work . Frank was smart to keep the same business name and phone number of the previous owner.
