Wanted to get an idea if it was cost effective to replace a cracked screen or get a new laptop. Went to Special Touch, guy said he has replaced "Thousands" of laptop screens, so I asked for an estimate. Said needed to leave for 2 days to open it up, told him I just want an idea to see if was worth replacing and asked since he has done "Thousands" of these repairs, what the highest cost was? This Business Genius tells me "A Million Dollars". I told him that is F'ing crazy. So this place either does not know what they are doing or they are crooks, either way you don't want your business there. Ended up going to 2 other repair shops and both were able to give a high end estimate. Robert, your response is as ridiculous as your "Million Dollars" quote. I did not get frustrated until you gave an obviously ridiculous answer. Yeah, I shouldn't have said your answer was F'ing crazy, but no other words could describe it. Don;t worry, I found Peace when I went to a professional repair shop that had no issue answering my questions. I wanted to upgrade my video card. I brought in all the specs of my current machine: CPU, RAM, Video card, operating system, etc. hoping they could tell me whether or not it was possible and what the cost would be. They insisted I needed to bring in my computer. I'm not sure what possible diagnostic they insisted on needing to run before they could answer this relatively simple question. Their insistence made me wonder if they were stealing information from the computers they were allegedly servicing. Robert at Special Touch Computer Repair fixed all of my MacBook Pro's issues in just 24 hours! I went to their shop and they walked me through their procedures for evaluating my Mac. They'd complete a free estimate and call to let me know what the issues were and to give me options for extracting files, repair, etc. Robert also made sure to ask what my goals were with the service: whether I wanted just the files off the Mac, wanted to look into repairing the Mac or both. Two or three hours later they called me to let me know my hard drive was failing. They sold me a new hard drive, fixed my Mac super quickly and it only cost me $229 (inexpensive compared to buying a new Mac). I came to this computer repair shop about a year ago, walked in smelled fresh and clean. Walked up with my big desktop and told the employee the problem. Very respectful and polite. We discussed diagnostic fees and what I'd like done when he finds out what the problem is. Everything goes to plan. I hear back from them in about 5 days. (Very reasonable time by the way). And they found the m.2 ssd was busted and the brand that I bought is known for breaking like this one did. They replaced it and when I got home I saw I had an extra TB of space AND windows 11 installed. Wow. They did all of that for free!! I broke the case on my laptop. Special Touch said I needed a new mother board and they installed one for $300 but the screw holes did not line up which I found out when I took it to another computer shop. Also I was told I needed new hinge. I paid $100 for a fix and my power cord still did not line up. The management is not user friendly. read more

I thought my hard drive was fried. I took it to the Apple store but they didn't open it up to find the real problem. It was just the cable from the hard drive. I had water damage on a 3 yr old Mac laptop and Apple quoted me $900 to fix it. I messaged special touch and they responded right away about bringing it in. After checking it out they told me the screen was damaged and there wasn't much they could do past that. First of all, I called Special Touch because I thought I had a printer problem. Even though I was not a current customer of his, he took the time to listen to my problem and gave me advice. He even went so far as to send me a couple links to new printers that I could order on my own. (This in spite of the fact that he also has a few printers to sell in his shop.) I was impressed enough with Robert's patience and knowledge on the phone with me, that I decided to take my laptop in to have him service it. Once again, he patiently listened to my questions and concerns, and then told me what he could do. After being overcharged at Best Buy, I wanted to give a small business a shot fixing my laptop. There was a huge miscommunication. I said multiple times my laptop wasn't backed up and I wanted to make sure nothing would be lost, because the charging port was all that needed to be replaced. They called me the day after I dropped it off to say the charging port was connected to the motherboard, so that all would need to be replaced. I was quoted at $150 for parts and service. They assured me nothing would be lost. Well; when I went to pick it up, it was. They told me I basically had "a brand new computer!" when precious photos of my deceased parents had been lost along with what I needed for work. They also tried charging $230. They were able to give me a discount after I left the store, refusing to pay over half the price of a laptop for one part. I said they could sell it since the laptop is useless to me now. It took a week to fix, so I had to get a new one anyway for work. They forced me to pay since they'd already put the money into fixing it. This place was not worth the trouble. read more
