The XLB were pretty large and filled with a lot of soup. Both are hot like lava on the inside when it hits your table so beware or you will scald your mouth! And the combination fried rice was excellent. Tasty and not all stick together like some places. You order through a QR code but pay the waitress. Stopped by 四姐 (4 sisters) for an early dinner since we were in the area. My friend and I were the first ones dining in at 5:30 on Saturday and it didn't start filling up until we were almost done with our meal. I was surprised because I thought this place was pretty popular, but it seems like they do a lot of takeout orders here . The space is bright and spacious with beautiful colored lanterns for decoration and bright red booths. I loved the space as soon as I walked in. They use QR code menus, and that's where you order as well. The menu was huge, but we stick with some of the popular items. We weren't super hungry so we shared two things: the sheng jian bao / pan fried pork buns ($12.50 for 6) and the leek and egg empanada ($8.99 for 3). The pork buns were definitely my favorite of the two. They were perfectly crispy on the bottom and there's plenty of juice on the inside, so be careful when you take your first bite. I just wish that there was more meat in the filling and that the layer of bread on the bottom crispy part wasn't so thick. The leak and egg empanada was okay but I found the filling quite bland. My friend ate it with chili oil and with that it was much better. Overall we enjoyed the food but it didn't blow us away. read more

I over ordered some familiar old favorites to ensure that we had flavors to choose from. Green Onion Pancakes - 3 - Not as tasty as before. Lacking salt. Seemed smaller. Chives & Egg Empanadas - 3 - Different chef? Also not as flavorful as I remember and the texture of the exterior also seemed to be different. Xiao Long Bao - 5 - Six large pieces that were full of soup. Excellent! Won Ton in Chili Oil - 4 - Tasty. Salt & Pepper Pork Ribs - 5 - Seemed to be well dusted in Cumin as well. As always, the food seemed to come out in a rush. Everything was hot but of course, if you can't eat it fast enough, everything also gets cold fast. Dim sum and noodles! I'm a fan. All that we ordered was yummy but something was missing to make this a five star review. I'm not sure what, but it was all just A-ok. The dim sum was fresh. You can see them making the dumplings in the kitchen! Service was fast and easy. You order with a QR-code on your phone. It's a small restaurant but they do have larger tables in the back. I wish they sat our party of 7 back there. The round tables with the lazy Susan is so nice for family style eating. It's funny we thought it was a new restaurant because of the huge Grand Opening sign outside. But apparently they have been there for 2 years and just changed the name. I'd come back. My husband and I discovered this gem last year, and have been regulars since. Family and friends that we bring here agree that the food is DELICIOUS. My husband's go to is the spicy beef noodle soup. He has had it with all the different noodles. Other go tos are the stir fry green beans, chicken chow mein (has an amazing Smokey flavor), general tso chicken, mixed chili beef, and the pan fried soup dumplings (make sure to make a little hole to air out and put the vinegar, soy sauce, and chili sauce - honestly the only way to eat it. We haven't had any other dishes so can't speak on those ... but you won't go wrong with our go-tos. The restaurant is super clean and customer service is great. The kitchen is quick with cooking up your orders. Best way to eat is in the restaurant. I've ordered pick up as well and it just as tasty but anything fried will get soggy (obviously) but the flavor profile is still there. Enjoy! read more

The bad - non existent customer service- they have the QR code ordering feature but cannot hunt anyone down for questions on the order. The spicy chicken buns were a 2star- the flavoring was like the spicy sauce they usually leave out on the table - only red chili. The green pancakes were very oily and tasted bland the soy sauce on the table was super salty and the other option was bottled vinegar. The chili chicken and mushroom dumpling tasted ok nothing to rave about. The Micho dessert steamed bun was so bland and did not come with any dipping sauce that it desperately needed - also tasted nothing like a Mochi. Came here a couple days ago because I was craving soup dumplings. Here's the verdict. We got sat immediately and service was quick. the snowflake dumplings had a cornstarch slurry sort or crust and it had meaty filled dumplings. I likes the crispiness. Soup dumplings were juicy and meaty. There was a lot of broth and I really enjoyed this one. The pan fried dumplings were meaty and flavorful but the skin was way too thick. It tastes more like a pan fried bao bun then a dumpling. The crispy fried pork was my favorite thing. This restaurant does it best. I've been back to Pan Fried Dumplings on a few more occasions. We try new items here and there but there's always one item we do order always and that's the spicy red oil wonton. I think in the end, the dishes are definitely good to look at with a premium price on it though everything in terms of flavor and satisfaction is just okay. We're not going to go here all the time. It's going to be a once in a while red oil wonton trip plus trying other things on the menu and hoping it'll change my mind about this place. So far....nothing has won me over to get over the 3-star hump. So until then....here's what we got on a recent trip. ~ Sweet and Sour Pork - $20.99 ~ Thin sliced pork, a bit dry, but the sauce made up for the dryness. Crispy and chewy which was nice, but I really wished the pork was thicker. ~ Chow Fun - Combo (Beef, Chicken, and Shrimp) - $16.99 ~ Three pieces of shrimp, a few small slices of beef, primarily chicken. The chow fun were more like long thick noodles, that were layered, then sliced up so it's like eating layers of thick noodles. I wish they were just long noodles and not chunked up layered noodles like traditional chow fun is. It was a little hard to distinguish from sight which was noodle versus chicken. A little light on the noodles and protein. I just wish there was more of everything considering the price and the combo being an extra $3 was a little disappointing. ~ Spicy Red Oil Wonton - $12.99 ~ I keep forgetting there's a buttload of fried garlic on this and I really should ask for none as it really upsets my stomach. So next time, I need to ask for none. Now you garlic lovers out there, go at it. I do love garlic, my stomach does not. This is always good. Hits the spot. A little numbing, a little spicy, tangy and I still do wish there was a bit of peanuty-ness in it. I ordered over the phone though I thought I accidentally didn't call the right place since calling the number that's on the Google result led to (510) 890-3244 and then another time (510) 279-8064 versus what's written on their website: (510) 894-1243. So that was REALLY confusing. What could've remedied the confusion would be the person on the other end saying "Hello this is Pan Fried Dumplings in Newark, may I help you?" Nope I just got a "Hello?" So some kind of greeting when picking up the phone would be really helpful. But if you want a little fusion, great to look at food to impress and not minding the price, then this is your place. read more

I've had a few take-outs from this restaurant, and my experience has been "hit-and-miss." The restaurant really hits its stride with the simple noodle dishes. We've had tomato egg over noodles, and sweet garlic pork over noodles. Both of them taste great. However, for the more sophisticated Chinese dishes we ordered, the execution was a letdown. Despite their appealing descriptions on the menu, those dishes did not taste good. It was either the flavor was seasoned wrongly or some of the meat was not fresh. The Sliced Beef Shank had enough foul smell that we ended up not taking our chances and threw it away. For the clams we ordered, they were not fully washed clean and had sand in them. The service was decent, and the staff was generally attentive. Their take-out bag is one of the best I've seen. I wish the food was as good. read more

Ate Dinner here for the first time, everyone that works there do not change gloves . They use the gloves to protect their hands and use the same gloves to serve food, take money and bus tables. A thin, crispy crunchy layer on top of a really juicy pan-fried pork dumpling. It resembles traditional Japanese Gyoza with a single crispy crust fusing all the dumplings together, only more artistic. Good Dishes * XLB - Only 6 per order but they're pretty good sized and have good ratio of meat, soup, and dumpling wrap. *Tomato Beef Noodle Soup - Comfort dish, with smooth and soft round noodles. Beef brisket was tender and juicy. Average Dishes * Steamed Egg Custard - similar to Japanese Chawanmushi but here the addition of ground pork really upped the saltiness of the dish. Meh Dishes * Red Bean Buns - Yikes what did they do to that filling? It seems really watered down and had a funky texture. I expected seriously smooth, intense and dark red bean paste. I stopped by for lunch on a Sunday around noon and the restaurant was very busy. There isn't a waitlist when you show up at the door, so remember your position in line amongst the other parties. Try not to get seated near the door because there's a massive gust of wind every time the door is opened. When we got finally got seated, we noticed our table didn't get a water carafe nor a spoon with our dining set. It was impossible to flag down a staff member down given how busy the place was so we just sucked it up. My wife and I got three dishes: the beef roll pancake, ginger chicken with a side of rice, and an order of pan fried dumplings. If you're in a rush, you probably should not dine here. The baos took around 45 minutes to show up. It looks like the restaurant waits till there's a critical mass of orders before they start on cooking the baos; not exactly the best dining experience. However, the baos themselves are delicious - some of the best I've ever had: super crispy bottoms, full of flavorful broth, and well-seasoned meat. The chicken dish was awful! Each bite is a minefield of bone shards. The chicken skin is also dirty looking so I didn't consume any of it. Not a dish to order if you're dining with kids. I ordered this thinking it would be closer to Hainan chicken and deeply regretted my decision. The last dish we ordered, the beef roll dish - was actually pretty good. No complaints at all. Very tasty, tightly rolled and generous amount of beef inside. When you're ready for the check, you'll have to be aggressive waving somebody over. Our meal came out to about $50. Lowest tip box on the receipt is 18% but the service definitely doesn't warrant it. Prices here are not exactly the cheapest either. Not a place I'm dying to stop by again for. read more
