I went here today on a recommendation from some friends. I went in with black nails that were a hot mess and the young gentleman managed to get that off and give me a beautiful pink and gold manicure. The background music was relaxing, the news was on so I caught up on some current events, pricing was great and the hand massage at the end left me feeling pampered. I've visited this salon a handful of times over the last 4 years since moving to Fairfield. The staff is always very friendly and it seems like they're always able to schedule an appointment last minute or take a walk in. With that being said, I have found that lately my nails start chipping far sooner than they should. The last time I was there I got a gel manicure and they chipped within 10 days. This time, I got a regular manicure as I didn't want to pay the extra for gel if it was going to chip and my polish has chipped in 4 days. I was on vacation so it's not like I was doing anything with my hands that should cause them to chip such as dishes or housework. I probably won't be back. read more

I usually have amazing experiences here but not today. I went in for a gel manicure and I did have a super deep cut on my finger so I made sure to let the manicurist know just to be careful. She rolled her eyes and was pretty rough while she was shaping my nails. At the end I was going to give her my card while still sitting down and as she was writing the bill she told me to get up (as if she was hiding something) and to go to the front. I signed the receipt and made sure I was only getting charged correctly for my manicure. When I checked my bank account I found out they charged me an extra 7 dollars. The botanicals in the water were a great touch. I was offered water or tea to drink as soon as I was seated for my pedicure. The shop is clean and the employees are very nice. The lady who did my pedicure hurt me a bit, and it took a couple of days for it to stop hurting. It has been at least a month and my pedi still looks great. I didn't make an appointment ahead of time, so I was glad I didn't have to wait long. Emmy started on my nails, then a guy (I forgot his name) stepped in to fill and shape my nails while Emmy waxed another customer. Once she was done, she finished off my nails. I told them I was new to the area and offered me some suggestions for a good local pho and chinese food place. I was pleased with the work they did on my hands. Later that same week, I went to get my toes done. I got a lady named Quin, I really liked how detailed she was in working on my feet. She didn't talk much, but I didn't mind. I've been here twice now, love how accomadating they are. Their basic pedicure includes hot stone massage and foot scrub for only $25. Theyre reasonably priced too. The nice part about it is that they'll actually do the massage for the full 20 minutes you're in the chair which I'm not used to, none of the places I've been to do that. The first time I attempted to give this place a try, it was 3 PM on a Sunday. They close at 5 PM. I know weekends at nail salons get busy, but I thought a two-hour window was fairly safe. I walked in and the gentleman who greeted me basically laughed in my face when I asked if I could get a pedicure. "Oh no, there's no way. We close at 5." Ummm, it's 3:00...but okay. I went somewhere else, and figured I'd give this place a try another time. The next time, I believe I called ahead (but I actually don't remember - I may have just walked in) and it was a Saturday late morning/early afternoon. I wanted a gel manicure, and there was someone available to do that for me right away. Great! We get started, and I overhear an argument going on between someone who worked there and a woman who had brought in a group of little girls, probably as part of a birthday party. Basically the woman was pissed because it she felt like not only had she been overcharged and deceived by the lady who worked there (the owner? manager?), but that she was very rude to her. She was explaining this to the guy who worked there. Anyway, I don't remember the details, but it was upsetting because the woman who was getting yelled at, was the woman who was doing my nails at the time. So, I felt like she was taking her anger out on my nails, which obviously wasn't fair. She was distracted and it was unprofessional. I definitely didn't have a relaxing experience. But, I decided to go back. That time, I got a pedicure. As I was sitting in the spa chair, the women next to me started complaining to the lady doing their nails that she was doing a horrible job and they refused to pay. This escalated even more and they started complaining to the manager/owner (same lady who got yelled at last time, who angrily did my nails) and she...guess what...got angry again. Anyway, I'm kind of annoyed that every time I come here, there's an argument or fight. My nails usually come out okay (nothing AMAZING, but nothing worth complaining about) but it's impossible to relax at this place. I can't give it 4 stars because I'm not a fan, so 3 stars it is. Might go back again, but probably won't. After a year in Fairfield, I'm still trying to find my go-to nail salon and even though my standards aren't crazy high, I'm finding it near impossible. read more

I am looking for a new nail place to get my nails done after being with my lady for 15 years. I went to Special Nails because someone very close to me goes there and recommended them. I am very disappointed in the end results for my nails. The young lady did ok on my feet but she started my nails and a guy finished them. He was very talkative to the white lady next to me. He sat down to finish what the young lady started and didn't say a word to me. His polishing skills were terrible! There is polish under my nails where it ran. I got gel polish. He didn't put a base coat on and I was supposed to get a manicure also. I was charged for a manicure. My hands were never put in any water and my cuticles were never touched. After he finished polishing my nails; he put oil around my nails and went back to the white lady. I wasn't even given lotion and was charged for a manicure. The equipment in this place is not clean. I had moved to this area and wanted to find a nail place close by so it would be convenient with my busy schedule. The first few times I went were alright, so I decided this may be a good fit because I'm an easy nail fill. But it seemed as time went on as I became a regular every two week client the service would start to go down hill to the point the women were straight picking fun and COMPLAINING at me because I preferred to keep my nails the same color every-time I came in. I felt uneasy just knowing the last few times I came in I was going to be laughed at and have eyes rolled at me because I wanted a nice red nail color. This is why I stopped coming, I will not be disrespected when I am paying and tipping you well to do my nails the way I want them done. I would give Specials Nails zero stars, but it's not an option. First, the owner is very rude, she acts like it's privilege to be at her shop and treats you accordingly. The lady who covers for her in her absence is also very rude. I came in asked for a pedicure, she looked at me and said, "no, too busy" and turned around. Ahhhhhh, really, wow. The service is so so, a pedicure literally lasts 20 minutes. Get you in, get your money and get you out. I don't recommend this place if you want to feel like a valued customer. Skip it, there are a TON of nail places in Fairfield. The best part is the husband, he's the owner also, sweet man, but all the women are rude and cold. I have tried a number of nail salons since moving to the area 13 years ago. So far they've all been just "OK" for one reason or another. I was pleasantly surprised when I took my hubs on his maiden voyage to a nail salon and treated him to a bday Mani-Pedi. Everyone was friendly (my technician not so much but I think it was due to a language barrier) So, everyone ELSE was friendly. My hubs was a little apprehensive, but they handed him the TV remote and all was well with the world once again. By the end of our appointment, he had everyone laughing and enjoyed the experience. Came here in the afternoon and the nail technician that did my pedi was a bit rough, she rushed through the pedicure. Side of my foot started to hurt cause she scrubbed soo hard with whatever abrasive thing she used ended up with cuts on my bottom foot. Pedicure are suppose to be relaxing it was painful. The girl was using the second chair, I go here because it's close to my home. It's a hit or miss. I guess book an appointment with the owner if you want good service. read more

Excellent place for your Mani/ Pedi. Since I've found this place... I've been going nowhere else! My first time, I was rushing doing errands before my trip to Florida for a funeral, and at 655pm, they took me in! (They close at 7). I was so grateful. But not only for that, they were detailed and quick for my gel mani and pedi. They still made sure I was comfortable and offered tea and water. It hit 7:40pm and they still did the heat rock massage on my legs and feet. They were all so nice! The second time around, they were very busy. They still accommodated and took everyone in within 5-8 mins :) and-- same nice and detailed treatment! I love how I am always at the pool and my pedicure doesn't chip!! They have extra packages for young mud treatment or waxing, too. I'll definitely try that next time! read more

I went to this salon based on its high ratings. I'm new to the area, so I really wanted to find a place I loved. I walked in without an appointment and they had time for a manicure right away. Their work was quite fast and good technique. I can't give it five stars because I wasn't wowed. They lack in customer service, don't expect a hello, warm smile, nothing... it's significantly more expensive than my prior place which I LOVE; guess it's hard to find a great place when the bar has been set high. I'm really happy I came here as soon as they opened up for the day! Of course when it's busy some might not be able to get the quality service they want but what do you expect with a limited amount of nail techs and a flurry of people who want manis AND pedis? Thankfully I came in when no one was there and they were very efficient. Part of my mani was done at their little desks and to the chair for the pedicure where my mani also continued. I appreciate that kind of efficiency lol. I had Emmy on nails and Henry on toes and both were very nice and took their time. I got gel and I think one hand got one too many rounds of UV (she hadn't realized because she had to answer the phone a few times) but i don't really care and didn't say anything, just letting some know that might happen. I wanted more of a nude color for my nails but got kind of a purple nude/ taupe? I showed her a picture and there's so many I can see why it was hard to find, but this color is beautiful so I'm not complaining. Went here with my best friend today for a girls day but couldn't afford to get anything done so I brought my own nail polish. While I sat next to my friend getter her manicure, I asked the woman doing her nails if it was alright if I could paint mine with my own polish. She said "absolutely!" and told me how when she was younger and in college she couldn't afford to get hers done either. She then told me that she would help me paint my right hand and she put a top coat on all of them for me. 10/10 would reccomend this place. I have been going to this salon since it first opened. During the earlier months after opening I considered this a five star salon. However I have noticed a gradual decline in professionalism and service during my last few visits. During my last pedicure it felt rushed and the service itself was poor. When I complained about being cut on my toe two employees laughed and spoke to each other in their language which was rude and insulting. This is an ok place. The first nail place I've been to in Fairfield so far. I got a pedicure and it was $25 for just the basic. That's a pretty good price. It includes a scrub and massage and hot stones on your foot. My nails looked good; however, the people working weren't very nice. I didn't feel welcomed or like I was wanted there. I'm not sure I'll be back. To add, the man who started the water for my feet drew it luke-warm. This was a gross feeling. When the woman who was performing my pedicure came, I asked to for warmer water- to which she responded to putting a tiny bit of warm water in and then proceeding.
