On top of that, my mother attempted to withdraw $300 from their ATM, but the machine only dispensed $180. We were told she would receive a refund for the missing money, but she still has not received it. What bothered me most was Salem's attitude when I questioned all of the changing prices and incorrect charges. Instead of apologizing or trying to calmly explain what happened, she told me, "That's just how we work here." When I expressed that I was unhappy with the situation, she even told me that if I didn't like it, I didn't have to come back. Then, after all of this, they called me again saying that they had undercharged me. The nail technicians deserve recognition because Kim and Diana were great, but the front desk customer service and the way the payment issues were handled were extremely disappointing. With so many billing problems in one visit, I would strongly recommend checking your receipt carefully before leaving and keeping documentation of any refunds you are promised. We were assured that wouldn't be a problem and were told another technician would be back from lunch shortly. That person never came back, so I ended up waiting until another technician finished someone else's pedicure before she could start mine, which defeated the purpose of booking both services at the same time. During my manicure, the owner (or manager) seemed to be rushing through the service. When I politely pointed out a few issues with the shape and some imperfections, she didn't seem happy about the feedback, which made the experience uncomfortable. As a paying customer, I don't think it's unreasonable to expect attention to detail, especially when getting acrylic tips, builder gel, and gel polish. To make matters worse, it's only been one week and one of my nails has already chipped. With the services I paid for, I expected my manicure to last much longer than that. This was my 2nd time at Zara. First time was wonderful. I am not a fancy nail gal and don't know…read morethe lingo well. I've mostly just done my own nails. However one index nail has developed a split that stops growing at a point and breaks. My clear enamel no longer did the job. But a lady at Zara, months ago, fixed it! I believe she put gel on that nail because it was shinier and higher than the others. It lasted a long time. I returned recently and requested the same thing. Did not get it. And there was a language barrier so although I did ask why they had not done the gel that I had been very clear to request when checking in, it was too late. And they seemed to sincerely believe that what they had done would fix my problem and two ladies (check-in person and the person who did the work) did their best to explain to me what had actually been done to that nail (one kept using the word "foundation"). Unfortunately not only did that nail split within only a couple of days, causing me to have to clip it, ALL the nails began losing their clear coat in layers. Layers that are peeling and catching on things like hair. I feel like they tried but either did not want to do what I asked or thought their way was better for a reason I never understood due to a language challenge. I will not return.

Today, I was completely fine leaving with bare, natural nails. During the service, the nail tech asked if I wanted a clear coat. I said sure. Then she mentioned she would apply a thin layer of gel builder "just to keep my nails strong" until I come back. The way it was presented sounded like a small courtesy, not an added service--so at no point did I think I was agreeing to an extra $50 charge. I get to the register and my total is $70. $20 for a manicure... and $50 for gel builder. I was completely blindsided. If I had known I was being charged for gel builder, why would I agree to a THIN, clear layer with no color? That makes zero sense, especially when I specifically said I'd be coming back for a full set in two weeks. I felt genuinely misled. When I questioned it, I was told it was because the tech applied gel builder. I explained that I had clearly asked for just a manicure before being seated, and no one mentioned any additional costs at any point. They apologized and took off $20 plus 15%, but I still ended up paying $50 for something I didn't ask for and didn't want. At that point, I felt so uncomfortable and frustrated that I just paid and left. But honestly, the damage was done. This completely ruined my trust. Why would I come back in two weeks (or ever) when I've basically already paid for a service I didn't even want? First, I want to say that the technicians who worked on us were both very kind, patient, and attentive. Unfortunately, I forgot to ask for their names, and they were never rude or unprofessional. My disappointment is with the quality of the final work, not with how they treated us. If you look at the photos, you can see that my blue nails have several areas that weren't properly finished. While cleaning around my cuticles, it looks like the drill accidentally removed part of the polish near one of my cuticles. Almost all of my nails also have gel left on the cuticle, which makes them look unfinished. I also specifically asked for my gel to be applied as thin as possible. In the photos, you can see that there's a noticeable bump near the cuticle, and the surface isn't even or smooth. Instead of having a flat, natural-looking finish, the gel is uneven with visible bumps. My friend's nails had similar issues. On her thumb, there's a large piece of gel extending onto the cuticle, and overall the finishing wasn't clean either. Before we left, the staff did ask if everything was okay while we were paying, which I appreciated. However, by that point the salon was basically closing, and the technician who did my blue nails had already left. I felt it would be better to address my concerns afterward, once I had time to look at everything closely and take photos of the issues. We left feeling pretty disappointed because we were really looking forward to this experience. The staff was genuinely sweet and attentive, but the nail work itself needed much better attention to detail and finishing.

After my appointment, I went back and read the negative reviews, and honestly, those matched my experience much more closely. The first red flag was that I walked in to ask about pricing, then left to think about it, and one of the employees actually came out into the parking lot to convince me to come back. That immediately felt off. The second red flag was that I asked for almond-shaped acrylics, and the technician immediately started putting tips on without ever asking what length I wanted. He just assumed I wanted them short. By that point I was already committed, so I just went with it. As the service went on, I also noticed the salon wasn't as clean as I would expect. There were leftover decorations up and everything was just dirty and had stains on it, and debris around the work area, and it just didn't give me a great feeling. To be fair, the pedicure came out really nice. They opened what appeared to be a sealed pack of sanitized tools, which I appreciated, and I'm happy with how my toes turned out. The acrylic nails, though, were another story. The technician left noticeable gaps between the acrylic and my cuticles, as well as along the sides of my nails. They're also extremely thick. My boyfriend, who normally doesn't notice nails at all, actually asked if they were press-ons because they looked so bulky and fake. It's only been about a week, and because of the large gap near the cuticle, they already look like they've grown out for several weeks. These aren't even square and she kept cutting the side of my toe nails and filing them back when they were too short and hurt. I've been coming. Here for a long time this is probably the worst shaping I've ever gotten here. I could have done my own shaping better than that at home. Just ridiculous *** it was around 5-7 weeks since my last pedicure so my toes were not "really short" besides the big toe that broke. I added another picture to show that she was filing into my toe nails after cutting them super short as short as she could get them and made half of them round and tiny. She also cut the sides of the nails which you aren't supposed to do due to infection and hang nails. I asked her not to do this. there was no reason for her to cut the sides of my nails on one foot and not the other leaving with me with uneven toes. I appreciate the response but I feel that there should be an attempt to fix the situation instead of making excuses or insinuating that I'm making this up.
