Not a great experience. Used my VSP benefits in December and made it very clear that I needed glasses ASAP. I was advised I could get them within a week (visit was 10 Dec 2026) as long as I paid a 30$ rush fee. I called after the first week and they were not in. Was advised they would come that Saturday- they did not arrive. They did not arrive the week after. I called both locations, left a VM and a text message... no response. I called VSP and they went through the exact same thing, with the office not responding by phone. By the time they came in, I was out of town and currently still out. I ended up getting another eye exam and glasses somewhere else. When I asked for a refund, Dr. Lamont wanted to mail glasses to my vacation location- this was NOT an option. When I asked VSP why Dr. Lamont and his team would advise me that a rush on my glasses was given as an option, I was told that VSP does NOT do rush orders in the month of December. When I asked if the doctor knew this, I was advised that he was definitely aware of this, and they were unsure why it was offered. All I want is a refund for my glasses AND benefits, due to not being able to reach the office for cancelation and for being misled about my order. But apparently Dr. Lamont's office is refusing to do this. Very sad, as I don't need two (2) pairs and I am still out of town. read more

This team is phenomenal! I had an original appointment in early December. I got sick and had to reschedule 3 times. Dr. Bunyon was always nice and helpful. Dr. (Mrs.) Bunyon was very patient and talked me through my concerns about wearing glasses while using the computer and gave me some things to do and they are now working. Then, yes then, there is more. I went to pick up my glasses, went to the wrong location, had to reschedule the pick-up and guess what? Everyone was still very nice and patient. I will be back next year and I love this entire team! read more

Special Eye Care is something I was missing going to other Eyewear chains. I've been to them all. I have been wearing glasses since I was 3 years old and contacts since 18 and baby when I tell you the level of care, time taken and genuine concern for my eye health was something I've never experienced with any opthomolgist. Dr. Lamont and his attentive team in the Camp Springs office get 10 out of 10. They are my new superheros . Their state of art equipment and frame selection is phenomenal. I think I got a good exam here the people were very nice they definitely need to fine-tune their patient orientation skills, it was not a bad experience but it was not an exceptional experience like it should be. I came here and saw Dr Bunyan. I found him to be very knowledgeable, very nice, very professional and the office staff to be very nice as well. My only complaint is that I wasn't too fond of the location. It looked a bit run down, It is attached to the bank of America building in connection to the Iverson mall. I have been a customer of this establishment for maybe 2 years now. I called and emailed them numerous times (called over 4 times, emailed 3 times) to get a copy of my prescription and on multiple occasions, I was promised that it would be sent to me but that was never done. I'm so disappointed, because of this I had to go to another optometrist, take another exam and spend over $100 just so I could have my prescription. I have noticed in the past that if you do not buy your contacts from them directly it's like they are more reluctant to give your prescription to you. I have had several other minor issues with this establishment (here is two): *sending my contacts to the wrong address still after telling the lady numerous times my updated address and begging her not to put the old one in. *sending numerous emails before to get a copy of my RX prescription the doctor himself is great at what he does, I just wish he would hire more adequate employees as they are a reflection of his business. I will no longer be a client at this establishment and do not recommend. read more

I went to this black owned Ophthalmologist because I was having a severe problem with dancing lights while driving. Nine months later and $600 short I still have problems with my vision while driving because Dr Bunyon was not comfortable in replacing my glasses at that time.If you are over 50 and a diabetic looking for a doctor who you can trust to look out for your best interest look elsewhere. DO NOT GO HERE. This doctor is more concerned about his comfortability than yours. I had just gotten glasses not eight months prior to going to Dr. Bunyon (Mr.) so I was not prepared to get new glasses. From the time that I went in and took the initial vision test to the time where I went back for a second exam, I kept saying that the left eye isn't clear. I kept saying it but didn't stand my ground. As a result, I am still struggling with seeing while driving at night because Dr. Bunyon (Mr. not the Mrs.) it's a family business refused to correct my glasses because he wasn't comfortable with doing do because I have diabetics. The best thing about this business is the staff. The ladies at the front desk and the Optical assistant are fabulous. read more

Update: The office has moved to 5210 Auth Road, very close to Branch Avenue metro station. However, my recent experience was just as pleasant as the first time. Dr. Bunyon and his staff do their very best to take care of the customer. Customer service is what is so special about Special Eye Care. To expound on this, I recently ordered a new pair of prescription glasses from them and after all my insurance discounts and co-pay, the office put in the order to a third party eye glasses lab. once at the lab, apparently the glasses broke. After a few weeks of waiting and not hearing back from the lab, Dr. Bunyon reached out and asked me to escalate the issue to my vision insurer. They ultimately figured out where and what the problem was and updated all parties. Dr. Bunyon had me come in and select another pair of glasses and took extra time to make sure I tried on any and all glasses that would be just as nice as the original pair. He stated more than once: "You were inconvenienced"; which was why he wanted to make things right as much as possible. I really appreciated his helpful attention. He is definitely a great doctor and business owner. read more

The eye doctor is very good but the staff is godawful. I requested a prescription to be emailed to me and they said that they will get it back to me immediately. End of the day, nothing. I call the next morning and they said the same thing again, still nothing. I needed my paperwork urgently yet they can't even send an email with my paperwork they have on file in a timely fashion. The staff needs to do a better job at simple requests any other basic office could do in a simple few minutes. read more

I went to the Auth Road location to see Dr. Bunyon. Initially, I was impressed with the different testing he had that I hadn't experienced with other doctors. BUT, after the exam I should have taken the prescription somewhere else. This is the first time I've had to pay my total up front for my glasses - $400+; even the frames are expensive, nothing under $200. However, my main concern is his staff (but I'm sure they're following doctor's orders): the young man was okay helping me select my frames, but I didn't realize at the time that he didn't give me an itemized invoice for my glasses, just a short abbreviated one liner showing the total amount I had to pay. When I went to pick up my glasses the young woman in the office just handed the bag to me, didn't sit down to make sure everything was okay - she did ask in passing. I then asked her for the itemized invoice and her response was that she'd be right back - no, she did not go to the counter to check-in another patient - and when she came back she told me the office was extremely busy and asked for my email address and she'd email it to me the next day. I work with computers and it wouldn't have taken but a minute to print this out for me. Of course, I never received the email of my invoice, and every day since that I've called for it, once or twice she got the address wrong, plus her tone has gotten shorter and annoyed - very unprofessional. I've requested something that I should have received - all my other doctors gave me itemized invoices - what's wrong with this doctor? I shouldn't have to request it and the audacity of this business to not give it once requested. At this point, I'm waiting for the EOB from my insurance company, I have a feeling I've been overcharged for items I'm not supposed to pay for and if I am, I'll be contacting my lawyer. I will NEVER use this doctor again. In my opinion, avoid this high-priced, unprofessional business. read more

Dr. Bunyon and his team are excellent. I went as a follow-up after being seen at Urgent Care (UC) for Blepharitis. Dr. Bunyon took his time w/me, asked about where I'd been seen (I simply told him I'd been to UC) and what factor led me to UC, discussed how the medication that I got from UC worked, and prescribed another medication and told me why. He also gave me a tip for preventing or greatly reducing flare ups of my chronic condition. I really appreciated his thoroughness and the fact that he didn't rush through my appointment. And because he's an optometrist, of course he sells eyewear and his collection is impressive. It includes designer frames; e.g., Tom Ford, Gucci, Prada and he gives you discounts on the glasses, in my case, more than what I would've received through my insurance. Special Eye Care is special. And I read some reviews that talked about the location at Iverson Mall being shady. Well, they moved and are on Auth Road in Suitland, MD. Nothing shady about this location. read more
