Not a great experience. Used my VSP benefits in December and made it very clear that I needed…read moreglasses ASAP. I was advised I could get them within a week (visit was 10 Dec 2026) as long as I paid a 30$ rush fee. I called after the first week and they were not in. Was advised they would come that Saturday- they did not arrive. They did not arrive the week after. I called both locations, left a VM and a text message... no response. I called VSP and they went through the exact same thing, with the office not responding by phone. By the time they came in, I was out of town and currently still out. I ended up getting another eye exam and glasses somewhere else. When I asked for a refund, Dr. Lamont wanted to mail glasses to my vacation location- this was NOT an option. When I asked VSP why Dr. Lamont and his team would advise me that a rush on my glasses was given as an option, I was told that VSP does NOT do rush orders in the month of December. When I asked if the doctor knew this, I was advised that he was definitely aware of this, and they were unsure why it was offered. All I want is a refund for my glasses AND benefits, due to not being able to reach the office for cancelation and for being misled about my order. But apparently Dr. Lamont's office is refusing to do this. Very sad, as I don't need two (2) pairs and I am still out of town.

Plus all of the staff are friendly and helpful. I recently had a problem with my right eye which scared me. I woke up with sticking and tears streaming from my eye and I had problems seeing clearly from that eye. I thought it would soon go away but it didn't, it actually got worse. The following day I went into Thompson Eye Care but Dr Gerald wasn't there so I saw Dr Kathryn. She was super helpful and gentle with my eye. She ran thorough exams and explained everything she was doing. By the time she was through my eye felt a bit better and she called in prescription which I picked up that night and I was told to return the next day. The following day my eye felt better but still had the same symptoms this time I saw Dr Gerald who greeted me and told me Dr Kathryn apprised him of my problem. He ran a couple tests and took photos and he explained what he was seeing. He asked me some questions which made me realize that I had wiped my eye with a tissue and it scratched my eye. This caused the discomfort and an infection. This is the reason I have been coming to this place for my eye care. This father/daughter team is super able to make me feel taken care of. Over the years I have had my eye problems handled effectively, they are both patient and helpful. I actually know a couple of neighbors who also come here and they both love their services.

I'm a fan!

The Optical Shoppe of La Plata is the finest optical store I have ever done…read more business with. Why? Because its owner, Donna, is a master in her field, an experienced and accomplished optician, trained in the complexities of grinding and properly fitting lenses into eyeglass frames so that you can see well. As someone who has had poor vision since childhood, my eyeglasses have never been simple to produce, a source of great frustration until I met Donna years ago. I have stayed with her ever since because she is a perfectionist--she always gets everything right the first time around, a rare characteristic among nearly every other optician whom I have ever used. What's more, Donna has a keen sense of cosmetics and would never, for instance, if you have vision like mine, fit you in large eyeglass frames; instead, she would find smaller ones and make sure that you look very attractive in your lightweight eyeglasses. When Donna opened her shop in La Plata, Md. and relocated out of the immediate DC metro area, it was a long drive for me. So she assisted by sending my eyeglasses by USPS, thereby reducing my number of visits; and when I fell seriously ill, she met me half-way to her shop so that I wouldn't have such a long ride. She has always been amenable and eager to help in any way possible. Which brings me to my final observation about Donna: She is a very kind and compassionate individual, someone who cares about her customers and wants them to experience joy and happiness--and for sure they will, especially with her striking and precisely crafted eyeglasses.
