I've been coming to this location for over 10 years. Dr Gerald Thompson is my Optometrist. Now his daughter Dr Kathryn Thompson is the owner though I still see Dr Gerald Thompson. Plus all of the staff are friendly and helpful. I recently had a problem with my right eye which scared me. I woke up with sticking and tears streaming from my eye and I had problems seeing clearly from that eye. I thought it would soon go away but it didn't, it actually got worse. The following day I went into Thompson Eye Care but Dr Gerald wasn't there so I saw Dr Kathryn. She was super helpful and gentle with my eye. She ran thorough exams and explained everything she was doing. By the time she was through my eye felt a bit better and she called in prescription which I picked up that night and I was told to return the next day. The following day my eye felt better but still had the same symptoms this time I saw Dr Gerald who greeted me and told me Dr Kathryn apprised him of my problem. He ran a couple tests and took photos and he explained what he was seeing. He asked me some questions which made me realize that I had wiped my eye with a tissue and it scratched my eye. This caused the discomfort and an infection. This is the reason I have been coming to this place for my eye care. This father/daughter team is super able to make me feel taken care of. Over the years I have had my eye problems handled effectively, they are both patient and helpful. I actually know a couple of neighbors who also come here and they both love their services. read more

I am very satisfied with Dr Katherine Thompson and her staff. She gives a thorough exam, without rushing you and the exam Includes blood pressure screening. Dr Thompson listens and reviews my notes from previous years. Tanya and the other staff are all pleasant, knowledgeable, experienced and have worked there for many, many years. One of the nose pads on my expensive sunglasses broke, and I went here knowing they had an in-house lab. The optician who unlocked the door after I rang the bell said he would check to see if they had the parts. When he didn't return immediately I knew they did, and that gave me time to appreciate the extreme covid measures: wide distancing, universal masking, hand sanitizer on every counter. 10 minutes, $10, and my cherished Zeiss shades should be good for another 20 years. I have been to many eye doctors over the years and this by far is my favorite!! Dr. K Thompson takes her time, she listens to you, and helps to find the best course of action for your eyes. Upon my first visit I had a pair of glasses that I loved, but the prescription was not crisp. Dr T helped to identify the correct prescription and get me as close to 20/20 as possible. She was great. If that wasn't enough, just when I was giving up on contacts. She found the right brand and prescription. I felt like I had a new set of eyes. My only criticism is there are not enough designer frames offered by the Opticians. I tried ordering a pair online and having them fill with my prescription and that was a venture I will not pursue again. read more

My wife contacted Thompson Vision Care online 2 1/2 weeks ago. Required to provide her contact information, she was hoping to schedule an appointment to seek expert advice, and, if necessary, treatment. Understandably, during the Covid pandemic, this clinic, located on Greenbelt Road near Berwyn Heights, is only open by appointment. All of this would be fine, but my wife never even received a courtesy email telling her that they are not taking new patients. This will be my 67th Yelp review, and the first in which I feel no other choice exists but to give one star. read more

Updating this review to recant a later experience here that was just terrible. After the positive experience I had earlier, I got an examination for contacts. Dr Thompson pushed me to try a different brand, and gave me trial contacts. The lens in my right eye kept drying out and I had to go back for a replacement. I had to work a night shift half-blind because it fell on the floor. The second time it happened, I returned to report the problem. Thompson angrily told me to order them and implied I was just trying to leech off of trial pairs. Never returned. read more

I walked in for minor glass repair. I was greeted at the door by a pleasant gentleman who directed me to a seat where I was promptly waited on--my glasses fixed within a few minutes at no charge. I would definitely return to this place of business. read more

Writing a review here to counter many of the negative ones. The doctors are great and thorough. I feel more confident in them than surrounding eye doctors (of which I've been to a few). The technicians in the lab are also excellent. I've had over 5 years of multiple exams and glasses here, and I'm always pleased with the service, especially during COVID times. I've seen lots of complaints written about them not getting back to you. Not a big deal; pick up the phone and call them. Someone always answers and kindly responds immediately. I've been picky with my glasses since my eyes have changed dramatically in the last few years. They have remained patient with me as I order and replace multiple glasses and lenses. I couldn't ask for more. read more

It was the first time I saw a person who is providing her service being in such an arrogant manner. The tall woman (called Janice or something) who is responsible for recommending lenses and drama is a disaster. She was in an extremely arrogant manner when giving me the introduction to the frames and lenses. She seemed to be very unwilling to provide me information unless I asked her like I was wasting her time. She was also lack of profession as she wasn't giving me any useful suggestion but only was reading the list of prices for different frames. In the end, I couldn't bear her manner so I decided to go to another place to get a new pair of glasses so I said " forget about it". Then she got offended and became furious and seriously tried to kick me out by yelling at me. That ruined my mood for the whole day. I have been coming to this place for years. They used to be associated with Pearle Vision but I went there recently and apparently they aren't anymore. They have a really friendly staff and are always helpful when I'm buying contacts or glasses. What I really love about this place is that they do Saturday appointments I don't have to worry about taking off work when coming here. The only thing I would say that is a downside is they don't have that great of a glasses selection. I rarely buy glasses so this isn't really an issue for me though. read more

I've been coming to Thompson Vision Care (formerly known as Pearl Vision) for a while. I get my yearly eye exam, contact and glasses prescription here. I've seen both Dr. Thompson's, father/daughter practice, and I've no problem with either. I do prefer the elder Dr. Thompson though. Customer service has always been courteous to me and they have adjust my glasses for free multiple times which I think is great. The selection of Men's glasses frames never seems like enough for me though so I usually end up getting my glasses elsewhere. I've never had an issue scheduling an appointment either. The convenience and consistency are enough to keep me coming back. read more

Out of all the years I've been a patient I always wanted to leave a review but remained hopeful and figured people have a bad day but wow the customer service as been horrible from day one and still continues regardless of the feedback or speaking to someone. The father (doctor) is awesome and he's the sole reason why I always return. Pros: The father is an awesome doctor. The daughter is also a doctor and seems okay. I do try to avoid dealing with her because of so many negative reviews regarding her attitude but I never seen it first hand so I can't say much regarding her. Cons: Customer service has been horrible for years, nothing has changed even after multiple reviews. Unfortunately the older black lady with the gray hair is worst. All the years I've been a customer she has never helped me but always stands in front. Any time I have went to her she is immediately defensive, not sure why because I remain polite even after her rudeness. She has in many occasions literally talked about me or other customers while I'm sitting right there, but has been there for years. There is one lady I deal with on the contact side, her name is Zoe, she's nice and informative. I try to stick with her if possible. The frames for glasses are very pricey, but I never get past the customer service to get pair. With that being said there definitely has been polite workers, but i never see them there for long. If your getting contacts just walk straight to back and avoid the associates/ workers in the front. This time my boyfriend was with me and literally said "wow that lady is definitely talking about you". Which is the normal, and I always ignore her simply because I think you should treat everyone how you would want to be treated. I would suggest customer service training for that one lady in particular. If you are a customer there you know exactly who I'm speaking of. I never asked her name but once I receive that information I will update for the purpose of the review and hope management will provide some type of customer training. Highly doubt will happen since I been a customer for 5 plus years and she has worked there this entire time. read more

Went for glasses, willing to spend whatever to get what I wanted. The doctor was good, but some of the staff was rude. Only came here because my insurance referred it and I have been there before. Didn't get much help, so I kind of rushed to pick out my glasses. I will definitely go to a different location next time. Haven't picked them up yet, so I'll update if any better or worse. 8/11/12* update Picked up my glasses the other day, and while the woman who took care of me today was better, everyone that worked there was extremely unprofessional- even the doctor who was a woman this time. When we first started coming here, we were met by friendly and courteous staff. Things have gone downhill since then. The unsmiling, stand-offish and unkempt staff have us looking for a new optometrist. Also, it is a real turn-off to have political button-wearing staff. It's amazing how the owners allow it! The exam, and doctor, were good. Not the best in the world but certainly not the worst. The store hours are awful. I was surprised to find they close at 6:00pm on Monday through Thursday, 4:30 on Fridays, open until just 3:30 on Saturday and closed on Sunday. I saw Dr. Thompson (the elder of the two) and I am a big fan. He's thorough, kind, patient, and was terrific to work with. I was checked for glasses and contacts and had a good experience with him, the front office person, and the woman who helped with the contact fitting. Unfortunately, my issue with the office is with the billing and customer service side of the house. I have been trying to get my prescription to get glasses online but there is a $40 charge on my account. I have dealt with some pleasant and helpful people (Julie I believe), but I was calling to try to figure out the charge (because my insurance says I shouldn't be charged) and the people at the store were very rude, specifically Natalia (I think) who hung up on me today after she berated me for calling back to ask for someone to look at my file since Julie is out today. This was extremely uncalled for and I was very frustrated. I just want to get my glasses - it shouldn't be this hard to get my prescription from them and when I call for clarification and to have someone see if the claim was resubmitted in some way (by simply looking at my account), the woman became very rude by pointing out that I had already called... But in that rudeness she was able to confirm that Julie resubmitted the request. It's just so frustrating and disappointing, especially considering how much I enjoyed working with Dr. Thompson. Thompson--father and daughter--and am very happy with the professional and thorough treatment I've received. All my questions were patiently and clearly answered. This location used to be a worthwhile place to go for eye exams and vision advice, but this is no longer the case. Ever since Dr. Gerald Thompson has been running this location, my experience has been terrible. I went here and tried Dr. Thompson back in 2010, and wasn't very happy. He didn't really listen to me and had an arrogance about him. After a year, I decided I would go back, giving him another shot, and thinking that maybe I had misjudged him. Again, terrible feeling after I left. I left the office and eye exam again with dissatisfaction. Needless to say, I will never be going back to Gerald Thompson and this location. Thompson just didn't really listen at all and seems liek all he cares about is collecting his money from the insurance company. I'd recommend that anyone looking for an eye doctor that listens, to stay away from Gerald Thompson. read more

Honestly I was a little worried to come here because of some of the previous reviews I saw, but my experience was nothing but great. First off when I came in I didn't have to wait a long time, my whole appointment and contact fitting took less than 35 minutes. Dr. Kathryn was very friendly, quick and efficient. I also like that she did both my glasses and contact appointment in one visit (my previous eye doctor did them separate). I also didn't feel forced into anything, Dr. Kathryn wanted me to test out and make sure my contacts work for me before I buy anything and I appreciate that! I've been coming here for years. They've always been on time with getting you seen, practically no wait from when you come into the door. As a matter of fact, I arrived really early for my last appt. (approx. 30-45 min) and they took me right away. I came in with a magazine, ready to past the time away. I really like the laminated scripts. Dr. Thompson Sr. has been my eye doctor for many, many years. He's a good eye doctor and a real nice man. I think if you have a negative experience with his staff, you should tell him because he doesn't have that kind of business. He cares about his patients. The people making the glasses are excellent. The lab guys go out of their way for you to make sure your glasses are right. They will do any adjustments for free for the duration of the time you have your glasses. Their staff has always been friendly and nice to me. I appreciate all of their efforts very much. I will come back because of the doctor and because of the lab folks. Before I came to Dr. Thompson I saw a few different eye doctors, but I never had glasses I could see really well out of until I met him. Once I found him, I've never gone anywhere else. Needed some emergency eyeglass work after eye surgery. Everyone was very helpful and accommodating, quite willing to "think outside the box" for a solution for me. I am considering changing from our doctor of 20+ years who's been with My Eye Dr for the last 5 or so. I unexpectedly failed my vision test at the MVA, so I had to find an eye doctor on short notice. Thompson Vision Care gave me an appointment for two days later. The woman at the reception desk got my paperwork processed quickly and efficiently. The doctor was friendly and clearly knew her stuff. I was only there for about 20 minutes from the time I arrived to the time I left. Turns out that I don't need glasses, but I'll still come back for a check-up next year. Wow I wish I would have read the prior review of this place. I had the most horrible experience getting just a simple eye exam and glasses. My experience was with Dr Kathryn Thompson which was just as horrible as the aforementioned. The lack of courtesy professionalism, the arrogance of the optometrist , respect for her staff, lack of client/doctor rapport is grossly apparent. I have never felt so nervous just waiting in the lobby every three minutes she was up and putting down her staff. Like her main focus was just to make sure the other employees left for the day feeling like complete idiots. The location is currently experiencing construction but services are still available. The hours have drastically changed and are not posted. I visited this location in 2007 and I was so impressed by the high standards and great customer service from the previous staff. I actually went out of my way to visit again. An extremely disappointing appointment. I will never recommend this place to anyone. read more

I have been using the optometry and eyeglass services of Pearl VIsion for over 8 years and REALLY like this Pearl Vision Express. Great service, knowledgeble staff, competent and nice optometrists, and a glass frame inventory that changes regularly so if you do not not find a frame you like, by returning 3 months later there is new inventory. I went to have lenses replaced in frames that I love. Everything was fine until the very last moment. After discussing lens options and insurance coverages, writing up the order, etc., the optician asked, "Did I mention the waiver?" She gave me a form to sign, which indemnified them for any damage done to my frames in the process of replacing the lenses. I was dumbfounded. I entrust my property to their care, and I pay if they break it? I would expect a business to show more respect for its customers, more confidence in its work, and more accountability for its actions. They lost my entire household's business with this short-sighted policy. read more

Extremely disappointing service. Sales person encouraged me to purchase more expensive lenses that turned out to be inappropriate for my eyes. I had to order new lenses, and when these arrived, one was made incorrectly and had to be reordered. In the end, it took one and a half months to get my glasses. I had used Yelp for quite a few years, and this is the first time I am writing a review. In my experience: 1. Dr. Thompson is nice. (I met with the female Dr.Thompson.) 2. Except Ted, the other staff are not very helpful. Their attitudes make you feel either they do not care about their patients or they hate working in this place. I think the doctors should seriously consider changing some of the female staff. 3. They do not offer professional advice willingly. They do give you information on glasses and contact lenses, but only if you ask the right questions. Otherwise, they just tell you the price to pay and to wait for their call to pick things up. 4. Do yourself a favor and do not pay in advance. I did, and it makes it quite difficult for adjustment on glasses later on. It's not they are not willing to, they just make it difficult for you. They do not even tell me my own prescription when I call (or is it normal?) 5. Not satisfied with the technician's work. It takes him a good 1 hour and a half to shape the glasses to fit in my frame, but then the edges are not smooth at all. I have owned more than 5 pairs of glasses, and never saw any work close to this quality. I can only imagine an amateur or intern at the beginning of his/her career would cut glasses with such skill level. read more

Remind me never to go to Thompson Vision Care. While I did have a good experience with the gentleman who did my vision test, the rest of the experience has been awful. It is now three weeks and my glasses are still not ready. At first, when I called about 7 days later, I was told that they didn't do my order correctly (if I hadn't called, they would not have caught the mistake) and they would send the order in right away. I was told that the lenses would be in on Friday and I would receive a call. It is now a week later and I called again to find out if the glasses were ready (no call from them). And surprise, surprise, still not ready. I said that it has now been three weeks and the rude person on the phone said, "I understand that but there were some major problems with the glasses." She made it feel like it was my fault that they are struggling with the order. She sternly said they would call me and let me know when it was ready. Well, you best believe I will NEVER use Thomson Vision Care ever again. read more
