Since this was a follow-up with the same doc, my experience was not super complicated. Overall, I thought the doctor had pretty good bedside manner (well, chairside manner). I'm not sure if the was newly minted, but I thought it was a bit odd/interesting that they said "that was my bad" when they realized that they wanted me to take my medication longer than what they prescribed. I thought this location was pretty clean and well-maintained. Also, the staff was very nice. Unfortunately, this location does not have it's own parking, so definitely check out the prices of the public parking garages. There is street parking but from what I remember the max time is one hour...at least for the street parking directly across the street from the office complex. I'm currently in the market for a new eye specialists since I recently moved to the area. However, I think that I might give them a shot as my primary eye care specialist at least for my next annual eye exam.

I was looking for a specific lens brand, ZEISS, to fill my new eyewear prescription. I called and was a bit surprised to hear "Thanks for calling My Eye Doctor!". Apparently the Yelp info has not been updated. I was placed on hold for approx. 10 minutes. The page states that they indeed do sell ZEISS lenses. I posed this question to the person who answered. I was placed on hold again for several minutes, after having to repeat and spell ZEISS. She had never heard of that brand. After my second wait, I was told that they do not use ZEISS. I guess I'll go elsewhere.

I arrived and my appointment went by really quick and I expressed interest in getting contacts. Instead of having me book another appointment for contacts doctor Mohindra Ramphal and Michelle A. took the time out of their busy day to talk to me about contacts and help me learn to put them in. Michelle was so incredibly supportive, encouraging, and patient in my learning process and helped me select my frames and order my contacts all in the same appointment. She was so pleasant and helpful to work with and these types of experiences are ones that make you go back! They didn't have to accommodate me at all but chose to do so! Thank you so much Michelle!

However, my experiences with the front desk staff have been consistently negative. I've had multiple interactions with the men and women at the front desk and they often come across as rude and uninterested in helping. When I call for follow-ups, I'm frequently placed on hold and then transferred, only to have to repeat my information multiple times. It turns a simple request into a frustrating process just to receive a basic service. Even in person, there's a noticeable lack of professionalism when you walk in. It's disappointing because it shouldn't feel this difficult to pay for and receive care. Times are hard, and people deserve to be treated with basic courtesy when they're spending their money. While most doctors would just kind of run through the routine exam and go through the motions, Dr. Ly was great at explaining every step of the process and talking me through my eye health. I'd never had such a thorough explanation of my eye health before, even pointing out that my prescription could get my contacts covered at a higher level than normal, and I thought it made a routine eye exam a particularly good experience. Maria at the front desk also did an excellent job walking through my insurance coverage with me to choose glasses that worked for me. I definitely will be making this my go-to place for my optical needs.

My family and I have been going to kemp mill optical for years and will continue due to their excellent service and Dr.Ly for being an amazing optometrist. There is no online appointment but calling to make one is very easy. Dr.Ly take the time to do a very thorough eye exam and explain the process. I have United healthcare vision insurance through my workplace and the staff went over to the process on how to get a reimbursement which is very easy. All in all a great place to go to if you ever need an eye doctor.

Plus all of the staff are friendly and helpful. I recently had a problem with my right eye which scared me. I woke up with sticking and tears streaming from my eye and I had problems seeing clearly from that eye. I thought it would soon go away but it didn't, it actually got worse. The following day I went into Thompson Eye Care but Dr Gerald wasn't there so I saw Dr Kathryn. She was super helpful and gentle with my eye. She ran thorough exams and explained everything she was doing. By the time she was through my eye felt a bit better and she called in prescription which I picked up that night and I was told to return the next day. The following day my eye felt better but still had the same symptoms this time I saw Dr Gerald who greeted me and told me Dr Kathryn apprised him of my problem. He ran a couple tests and took photos and he explained what he was seeing. He asked me some questions which made me realize that I had wiped my eye with a tissue and it scratched my eye. This caused the discomfort and an infection. This is the reason I have been coming to this place for my eye care. This father/daughter team is super able to make me feel taken care of. Over the years I have had my eye problems handled effectively, they are both patient and helpful. I actually know a couple of neighbors who also come here and they both love their services.

Additionally, the Yelp reviews mentioned a doctor that wasn't the one I booked for. Regardless...I switched optometrists after I moved back to Silver Spring. Dr. Sasser was VERY prompt. I had the first appointment of the day, and the front desk employee (apologies on forgetting his name) got me taken care of right away. I sat down in the chair for no more than 2 minutes before Dr. Sasser took me to the back. In comparison to prior eye appointments with other optometrists, I didn't feel like there was a "wrong" answer with the screening. Sometimes they make you feel like you're picking the wrong answer... Dr. Sasser put my mind at ease the entire time, explained my results and prescription comprehensively, and then got my payment taken care of on the tablet. I was essentially in the office for under 20 minutes. That said, I didn't feel at all rushed. I didn't buy glasses here - and I was never pressured. I asked if they could do lenses for my favorite Oakley frames, but they said they could not as they were special order from Oakley directly. I was able to walkout without being "sold to" in any way...AWESOME! I will be returning here for my annual exams as long as I live in the area and they are open.

He advised me to see a PCP if my headaches persist but after 3 days of contact lenses my headaches have subsided significantly Not sure if my spectacles had the wrong rx or they were just too tight Anyway... great doc
